Hank Lategan took win of special stage 5 at Dakar Rally 2022

South-African Hank Lategan is still doing what he can to make the result of this year's Dakar Rally better after some mistakes he did earlier in the rally which put him outside of top 10. Today he won the special stage 5 and this was with nice margin of almost two minutes in front of Seb Loeb. Just to remind you that Lategan drives works Toyota Hilux while Loeb is in Bahrain Raid Extreme Hunter.
Loeb finished the day in 2nd place and he is still 2nd overall currently with something more then half an hour (35m10s) behind rally leader Nasser Al-Attiyah who drives carefully not to make any mistake which could destroy his rally. Nasser finished the day with 8th fastest special stage time with 4m29s down on time of Lategan.
Lucio Alvarez is doing really great job in Overdrive Toyota and I must be sincere and say that I never heard for this guy before. That is even bigger plus for him because if he manages to finish this high at the end of the rally, he will almost for sure be in one of the works cars at the start of 2023 Dakar Rally. Yeah, he finished the day with 3rd fastest special stage time and he currently lies in 3rd overall. That is really great result for him.
There is another not known driver to the bigger public which shone today nice and his name is Mathieu Serradori who drives SRT Century. He finished 4th on today's special stage and he is currently 10th overall in the general standings.
There is a guy from the history and I remember him from Junior World Rally Championship, more then 15 years ago and his name is Guerlain Chicherit, who finished 5th overall and he is out of top 10 at the moment in the general standings.
Carlos Sainz sr lost one hour after he broke the suspension of his electric Audi. He had to wait for Stephane Peterhansel who gave him his shock absorber from his Audi but one hour was lost in the process. That was even bigger blow after Sainz sr lost more then two hours on the opening day.
So today there was no electric Audi in the top 10 and all their three cars lies outside of top 10 general. Today's day was long 395km of special stage and that is 100km more then complete World Rally Championship event. That's how long and extreme is the Dakar Rally.
