Peterhansel won another special stage of Dakar Rally 2022

French ace and Dakar legend Stephane Peterhansel is closing to the new record with number of special stage wins because today's win was 49th and the only one with more scratches ('technical' phrase for stage wins) is Ari Vatanen who has 50 special stage wins. Vatanen is out of rallying for years and I bet he won't go out of retirement at the age of 70 to try another Dakar Rally.

It's a shame that Peterhansel retired so early of the rally after he crashed and destroyed the rear right suspension. He just couldn't rejoin the rally on competition bases but the organizers let him and tha Audi team to stay in the rally for a testing purposes and that's why we see Peterhansel still in the results but only of the special stages and not on the overall results.

Rally leader Nasser Al-Attiyah lost only a minute and half to 2nd placed Seb Loeb and his lead is still more then half an hour. This way only some technical difficulties or a shunt can prevent Al-Attiyah from winning this year's rally.

Loeb's 5th place on this special stage just showed that he still doesn't have a knowledge for winning that hard rally as Dakar is. Yazeed Al Rajhi finished this special stage only 10th overall but this was still enough for him to stay in the 3rd place overall. He will have to stay in front of Orlando Terranova who is 35 minutes behind him.

Kuba Przygónski finished 6th on today's special stage in his X-raid Mini JCW but he is still 5th overall which is really great result for him because I don't remember him from the previous editions of the Dakar as someone who was fighting at the front.

Seb Loeb revealed today that all his efforts for a Dakar win this year are now over and only hope is to wish someone's bad luck which is not something he will wish to someone, especially in this dangerous sport as it is motorsport. I am almost sure that he is not that kind of person also. If he finish in 2nd position, he will for sure try harder next year. Next week he will drive for M-Sport Ford at Monte Carlo Rallye with their new model Puma Rally1. I guess that he will drive until the end (two more special stages) of the rally 100% and then refocus himself to Monte.

Let the best win - as always...
