Learning How to Learn: A Review of OpenClassrooms' Course

So last week, I recently got another certificate on OpenClassroom and this time is on the course: Learn How to Learn.

Learning how to learn was a course that interested me in the Openclassrooms and I decided to make sure to take the course and finish it. I love the course as it is very practical and encourages one to take learning seriously.

The reason why I chose this course is because I understand that growth is impossible without learning, and being an avid learner would significantly contribute to one's growth and career path.

I have faced serious issues with starting a course, not finishing it, or just learning a course. I have been trying all my best to seek growth and make the most of my learning. Seeing this course on OpenClassrooms gave me the spark that I had to read through it.

Let's have a little scope about what the course contains.

The course is a 6 hours course containing very short videos, not more than 5 minutes and much more written texts.

The course is broken down into five different parts, with test questions available after each part. Anyway, this is how all OpenClassrooms courses are structured. They always have test quiz to evaluate your understanding of what is being said, and it is important to score at least 70% of the quiz before you can be issued a certificate.

Part 1 of this course begins with preparing yourself to learn. It is broken down into understanding your reason for learning, different learning styles, and methods towards learning. What I like about this part is that it tries to reshape one's mindset in view of learning.

Many people see learning as it is in the traditional school way; they don't take learning to be a fun activity, so the purpose of this part is to reshape one's paradigms of learning to be something that is fun and important to one's life.

This part requires one to know what learning methods are best for them. They give a series of learning methods to meditate on and examine, and they ask one to try other options to see if those methods can also be helpful.

Also it focuses on identifying your learning strengths and weaknesses. You identify every aspect of your learning that can take you off track with what you can do to go back on track.

After knowing your best learning methods, it is time to create your personalised learning plan. How much time do you want to spend each day learning, and what subjects do you want to learn? It also focuses on setting goals for learning, knowing your end goal after learning, and knowing what resources you need after learning.

One of the crucial things to know about learning is knowing the best type of environment that motivates you to learn. This is important so that you will not get distracted when it is time to learn.

Since you are in the best learning environment, your mind will be active, and you will learn at a fast rate. I also love the context of mnemonics, which they added to the course, showing methods of how to memorise information.

And one of the best ways to put a stamp on what you have learned is to create content about what you have learned. Create videos or written tutorials explaining it the best way you can.

I was introduced to mind maps, which are used to explore ideas or brainstorm more ideas from what you already know. I find it interesting and something I would love to keep trying.

And lastly, for the summary:

The summary contains bullet points of everything being taught, with an assignment that I should make a summary of everything I have learned. This is the main reason for this post, but at the same time, I plan to make a much deeper summary, explaining each section in detail.

The structure is same as Alison's own. I take free courses there too, including on Udemy and Coursera. Does OpenClassroom offers free certificate upon completion of a course? This course is interesting and I love how you summarised it.

The certification is not free. It costs 20 pounds, but I was lucky enough to join a programme at the last point that gave me a free coupon to get the certification for just one month. The coupon would expire on the 15th of next month.

Oh! That's great then. Well, the certification fee on these sites aren't much too; ranging from $12-$20
