The Dream Reality Dilemma: Control vs Imagination
Yesterday, in the Hive Learners Community Hangout I hosted, we had a very controversial topic of discussion, which was:
When referring to dreams in this context, we mean your ambitions and life goals. Now, consider this question: would you choose to have no control over your future, even though you have the ability to know what the future holds, but cannot do anything about it?
This looks like a superpower to some people, and it's quite cool because you can know what the future entails, but it comes with a huge sacrifice, which is having no control over what you see in the future. This scenario is quite similar to most movies. However, I don't know if I would want to know something that I have no control over, because it would be very tormenting.
In the second scenario, your thoughts and actions are under your control, but your dreams and ambitions are controlled by someone else. This exists in our daily life because most of the factors like the government, family, friends, and people, have a hand in controlling our dreams. However, having control over your thoughts and actions means that you have a chance of achieving the dream you want.
I can relate to this scenario many times. For example, a friend of mine wanted to study engineering and applied to study the course at the University of Funaab, but after taking the exams, his course was changed to Agricultural Economics. This is an example of a dream being changed, but since he had control over his thoughts and actions, he chose to wait for another year to reapply for the course, although he didn't end up getting what he wanted.
@princessbusayo and @adaezeinchrist helped me understand this second scenario. They made me realize that this is the type of scenario most of us are living in and yet some are surviving.
The third scenario is quite tricky, in a way that your ambitions only exist in your imagination. Does it mean that you can't attain your dreams no matter how hard you try? I am still trying to fully understand this.
@bobbydones mentioned this to be the scenario of a person who only has goals in his imagination but never able to make them a reality. Such a person would only move towards whatever life brings, live his life aimlessly with no certain direction.
From these three points, which type of world do you think you can live in and why? Or do you have a different perspective or interpretation of these scenarios?

The second scenario should be okay..
It's one huge step to be able to control your thoughts and actions it has high tendency of making it right unlike having no control of either
Been a while champ
How are you?
Yeah that's the same way I think bro.
Been very good brother and you?
Good too
The first scenario is going to be the most pathetic of all, I think. When you know what exactly is going to happen in the future, nobody would want to do anything. As it woukd be certain things are no changeable. Moreover, sadness would reign the world. Why? Because there is no one whose life never encounter a loss of certain kind, and psychological researches indicate that humans are easily sad by sad thoughts as compared to be happy by joyful thoughts.
The second and third scenerio are the ones we do experience in our real lives.
The second scenario is the best one to be in. It is motivating and inspiring. We never know what the future holds but we have hopes, so we continue to make efforts. Life keeps on having positive energy and focus.
The third scenerio is the one that we say "THIS OR THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE". It is the indication of the believe that no matter what we do, nothing is going to change. You may say it the lack of courage. It may be caused by laziness too. It happens when people think that their obstacles are bigger than their strength and so they never put any efforts to change their circumstances. Lolz. Aren't many nations following the same path in the contemporary era? They are not doing anything to change their circumstances but have accepted the corruption and unlawfulness
Hmm...
You gave me a clear viewpoint on the 3rd part, I did not really understand it until this message of yours. I think I am also in a way in this category at this point in my life. In this third category. Hopefully, I gain that driving force to move out.
I think all of us are in this category at one point of life or another.
However, we can move up to the second category anytime we find the motivation to do so..... perhaps the right reasons to move forward.
First of all, I would say that this is a very interesting question and this is my view:
For the first scenario, it will really be tormenting as you mentioned. I don’t even think it’s a super power in any form, it’s prison. For instance, this one even happens, when someone would say that whatever they dream of comes to pass, no matter what. That can be very scary and at the same time, good(If it’s a positive dream). The fact that there are uncertainties in life is what makes us feel alive, we don’t know what the future holds, and though we are all curious, the best thing will just be to be patient and enjoy every experience. Even the future will eventually be in the past, and the cycle continues. So why stress too much?
For the second scenario, that’s still like the most relatable one, we are living by it everyday. So, obviously, that’s like the default choice for most of us.
I’m yet to fully get the third scenario and I will really appreciate if you can probably rephrase it.
The third scenario says you have control over your thoughts and actions but all your dreams and ambition only exits in your imaginations... Do you get it now?
I still prefer the second scenario where my thoughts and actions are under my control than the first scenario, I can't imagine the emotional torment that will come with that.
In the second scenario, even though my dreams and ambitions are controlled by other factors, since I have full control over my thoughts and actions, I'll eventually build the life I think of (imagine) through my actions. It will just require a higher level of wisdom to make that work.
Exactly! there is a greater chance of attaining your dreams with the second scenario.
The second option is what I think is fair because it is a terrible thing when you don't have control over your dreams or ambition. Although the dreams can be altered by someone else but having control leaves with the choice, unlike the first instance.
I missed the hangout, I pray I can keep up with the time.
