Hivechess Tournament Round 1: Results

Dear Chessfriends,

the third season of Hivechess tournaments started with 14 players and an average rating of 1804 (quite high, in S2 we had on average 1760). Unfortunately some of the strong players either came late or left early (or had connection problems). I hope this improves in the next rounds.

Not such a surprise that @jaki01 was the winner again. He won all his games, with a strong performance of 2331! Despite I played quite awful I could get the second rank. I had a very strange pairing and got only few times strong players, resulting in an average opponents rating of only 1654, app. 200 points less than the other Top 5 players had today. I hope I haven´t now used up all my luck.
Third was @yazp (zulukill) and fourth was @pereu4ivatel (drakOnb), both played very solid!
And also the fifth ranked, @uliseshb - new to HIvechess - played very well. Hopefully we will see him more often here!
The remaining tournament points went to @rodrook (6th), @evgsk (evgchess) (7th) and @rafaelaquino (ajedrezclub2t) (8th).

Despite I played quite awful I could get the second rank.

Not that I would agree you played "awful" (I didn't watch your games), but it's often really amazing: when I watch the table at the beginng of the tournaments, rather often I wonder why you are at the bottom of the table ... but then later, in the final standings, most of the time your are within the top three ranks. :)

Yes, seems I am a late starter. I often blunder in the first games, then it starts to get better.

Again i lost 2 games because of Spotify on phone (when I change window after 20 seconds my opponent gets info I disconnect). Please, in the future if You see I disconnected from game, wait 20 seconds because I have good internet and don't disconnect, just change window on phone. Especially if earlier I spent less time on moves than You, wait at least until my timer gets Your time.

But I can´t influence that after 20 sec. the game is lost. Or was it in the middle of the game?
Maybe better to not spotify while playing chess :)

Ok, when it happens at the start of the game it is my fault, You cannot wait. But it happens also in the middle of the game.
Game has timer 5 minutes, I have maybe 4:20, enemy 2:30, I go to Spotify for 20 seconds and when i come back, game is lost because enemy claimed victory immediately. Yesterday I could win vs sirtetris by time but I surrendered because he had great advantage.

I see. Well life is not always fair. Yesterday also 10 sec before the end of the tournament I offered a draw despite a clearly won position. The opponent waited until the time was up and only then accepted the draw! Not nice, isn´t it?

I recall you offering a draw in the last tournament, however I didn't see it until later. If I had seen the offer I would have taken it and gained one point. I didn't benefit at all so it was not intentional.

I only saw the offer when I decide to resign but accepted it instead. I had no ideal how it had been there.:)
