Dear Hivians friends, today I want to share with you a special place, which I carry with me in my heart, discovered during a trip to my beloved Holland, more precisely in Amsterdam.

In this post, I will talk about my visit to the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam, during my third trip to visit the city, which I did about 4 years ago with my great friend Fabio. Being both lovers of nature and botany, during that trip we had decided to visit the Botanical Garden of Amsterdam, following the suggestion of a friend of Fabio's, who strongly advised us to visit it, because it was a context of extreme historical importance it's natural. Dear friends, we really did well to listen to him, because I remember that visit with love, where I was able to observe and photograph numerous specimens of exotic plants that I had never seen before and I was amazed by so much beauty, not to mention the unique experiences that offer visits to the greenhouses, immersed in various microclimates. Surely the best time to visit the botanical garden is during the spring and summer period, so you can enjoy the flowering plants and trees that are found in the external path of the botanical park.

To enter and visit the park, you pay a ticket for a few euros, but there are no time restrictions for the visit, you can visit the length and breadth of the park throughout the day, obviously included in the opening hours and closure. Inside there are many places where you can stop, on benches immersed in nature, where you can take your time and relax thanks to the great positive energy emanating from the plants and the surrounding nature. There are no timetables to follow, once you enter you have all the time you want to enjoy a nice visit, which I highly recommend if you are going to visit Amsterdam. But now we come to the characteristics of the botanical garden.

Cari amici Hivians, oggi voglio condividere con voi un luogo speciale, che porto con me nel cuore, scoperto durante un viaggio nella mia amata Olanda, più precisamente ad Amsterdam.

In questo post, racconterò la mia visita al Hortus Botanicus di Amsterdam, durante mio terzo viaggio in visita alla città, che ho fatto circa 4 anni fa con il mio grande amico Fabio. Essendo entrambi amanti delle natura e della botanica, durante quel viaggio avevamo deciso di visitare appunto l'Orto Botanico di Amsterdam, seguendo il suggerimento di un amico di Fabio, che ci consigliava vivamente di visitarlo, perchè si trattava di un contesto di estrema importanza storica e naturale. Cari amici, abbiamo proprio fatto bene ad ascoltarlo, perchè ricordo con amore quella visita, dove ho potuto osservare e fotografare numerosi esemplari di piante esotiche che non avevo mai visto prima e sono rimasto stupito da tanta bellezza, per non parlare delle esperienze uniche che ti regalano la visite alle serre, immerso nei svariati microclimi. Sicuramente il periodo migliore per visitare il giardino botanico è durante il periodo primaverile ed estivo, così potrete godere delle piante e degli alberi in fiore che si trovano nel percorso esterno del parco botanico.

Per entrare a visitare il parco, si paga un biglietto di pochi euro, ma non vi sono restrizioni di orari per la visita, si può visitare in lungo e in largo il parco per tutto l'arco della giornata, compreso ovviamente negli orari di apertura e chiusura. Al suo interno ci sono molti luoghi dove si può sostare, in panchine immerse nella natura, dove ci si può prendere il proprio tempo e rilassarsi grazie alla grande energia positiva che emanano le piante e la natura circostante. Non ci sono tempistiche da seguire, una volta entrati si ha tutto il tempo che si vuole per godersi una bella visita, che consiglio vivamente di effettuare se andrete a visitare Amsterdam. Ma ora veniamo alle caratteristiche dell'orto botanico.

The Botanical Garden or Hortus Botanicus of Amsterdam is one of the oldest in the world, born way back in 1638, as a garden of medicinal plants to supply the city's doctors and pharmacists at the service of citizens, today it houses more than 6,000 specimens, including trees, plants local and tropical. The garden extends into an external sector where you can stroll among fountains, statues, canals and bridges immersed in a splendid nature of indigenous and non-indigenous plants. In the external garden you can observe and admire in the main fountain the wonderful Victoria Water Lily, coming from South America, which stands out a lot, thanks to its huge aquatic leaves, which seem almost fake for how shiny and for their basket shape.

Il Giardino Botanico o Orto Botanico di Amsterdam è uno dei più antichi al mondo, nato nel lontano 1638, come giardino di piante medicinali per rifornire i medici e i farmacisti della città a servizio dei cittadini, oggi ospita più di 6000 esemplari, tra alberi, piante locali e tropicali. Il giardino si estende in un settore esterno dove potete passeggiare tra fontane, statue, canaletti e i ponti immersi una splendida natura di piante indigene e non. Nel giardino esterno potete osservare e ammira nella fontana principale la meravigliosa Ninfea Victoria, proveniente dal Sud America, risalta molto, grazie alle sue enormi foglie acquatiche, che sembrano quasi finte da quanto lucenti e per la forma a cesto.

An ancient and important structure of the Garden is the Palm House, built in 1911, which contains numerous species of cycadophytes, some in danger of extinction. These palm-like plants, but not belonging to the same genetic family, are among the oldest in the world and even date back to the Permian period, before the dinosaurs appeared. A heritage of humanity that must be preserved and protected. In this greenhouse, with very hot and dry air, which reaches 40 degrees, there are also various species of cacti, such as these Old Mans and many small singular cacti which are found in wooden flowerbeds. There are also pineapple plants and various succulents. It was not easy to take photos inside the Palm House, due to the sun intensifying through the glass of the greenhouse and because of the intense heat, which made you sweat. But I didn't know what awaited me next...

Una struttura antica e importante dell'Orto è la Palm House, costruita nel 1911, che raccoglie al suo interno numerose specie di cicadofite, alcune in via d'estinzione. Queste piante simili alle palme, ma non appartenenti alla stessa famiglia genetica, sono tra le più antiche al mondo e risalgono addirittura al periodo Permiano, antecedenti alla comparsa dei dinosauri. Un patrimonio dell'umanità che va conservato e protetto. In questa serra, con aria molto calda e secca, che sfiora i 40 gradi, sono presenti anche svariate specie di cactus, come questi Old Man e molti piccoli cactus singolari che si trovano all'interno di aiuole di legno. Inoltre vi sono anche piante di ananas e diverse succulente. Non era semplice scattare delle foto all'interno della Palm House, per via del sole che si intensificava attraverso i vetri della serra e a causa dell'intenso caldo, che ti faceva sudare. Ma non sapevo cosa mi aspettava dopo...

The last construction built in 1993 in the Botanical Garden of Amsterdam is an imposing greenhouse, which is divided into three different tropical climates. Inside you have a unique experience, it seems to be teleported to the tropical jungle, overwhelmed by the temperatures close to 40 degrees and the humidity exceeding 90%, you walk between walkways and tropical microclimates, with mini artificial lakes and trees that surround and envelop as in a real jungle. The path is quite long, it intertwines between all three tropical greenhouses and this enhances it because it allows you to come into full contact with the ecosystem created inside it and really feel inside a jungle.

L'ultima costruzione realizzata nel 1993 nell'Orto Botanico di Amsterdam è un'imponente serra, che si suddivide in tre diversi climi tropicali. Al suo interno si vive un'esperienza unica, sembra di essere teletrasportati nelle giungla tropicale, travolti dalle temperature prossime ai 40 gradi e l'umidità che supera il 90%, si passeggia tra passerelle e microclimi tropicali, con laghetti artificiali e alberi che ti circondano e avvolgono come in una vera e propria giungla. Il percorso è abbastanza lungo, si intreccia fra tutte e tre le serre tropicali e questo lo valorizza perchè ti permette di entrare in pieno contatto con l'ecosistema creato al suo interno e sentirti veramente all'interno di una giungla.

While exploring the tropics of Amsterdam, I came across the most beautiful flower I've ever seen, so unique and particular, that to this day it remains my favorite floral shot. I'm talking about Calliandra grandiflora, a flower so fascinating and passionate that it has stolen my heart as a nature lover, with its numerous fiery red stamens and its globe shape.

Esplorando i tropici di Amsterdam, mi sono imbattuto nel fiore più bello che avessi mai visto, così unico e particolare, che ad oggi rimane il mio scatto floreale preferito. Sto parlando della Calliandra grandiflora, un fiore così affascinante e passionale che ha rubato il mio cuore di amante della natura, con i suoi numerosissimi stami rosso fuoco e la sua forma di globo.

I let you imagine the difficulty in taking photographs in those microclimatic conditions, with humidity close to 100%, the air was very heavy to breathe and I was afraid that the camera could be damaged with such high humidity, because it was immediately perceived with heavy full body impact, it was almost like taking pictures inside a sauna.

Inside the park there is also a series of further small greenhouses, in which other tropical plants are kept which are used to feed the butterflies bred inside. Unfortunately I only took two photos of this greenhouse, already with my breath felt heavy from the long stay in the large tropical greenhouse, I only visited it visually, because my head was starting to spin, I didn't feel like staying inside for long and in that period the butterflies were obscured for life cycle reasons being in the opposite hemisphere of the globe, so it would have been even more difficult to be able to take pictures without using the flash, which for obvious reasons could not be used as the butterflies had to stay in the dark.

With these last notions our visit to this marvelous botanical garden ended, as then and now that I am talking about it again, I am extremely satisfied with having chosen to make this visit which has allowed me not only to discover important plants from all over the world, but also immerse myself in the great Dutch botanical culture, which I deeply admire and thank for giving me the opportunity to discover it with its splendid and ancient botanical garden.

Vi lascio immaginare la difficoltà nel scattare fotografie in quelle condizioni microclimatiche, con umidità prossime al 100%, l'aria era molto pesante da respirare e avevo timore che la fotocamera si potesse danneggiare con un'umidità così alta, perchè si percepiva immediatamente con pesante impatto su tutto il corpo, era quasi come scattare foto all'interno di una sauna.

All'interno del parco inoltre vi è una serie di ulteriori piccole serre, in cui vengono tenute altre piante tropicali che servono a nutrire le farfalle allevate al suo interno. Purtroppo di questa serra ho fatto solo due foto a malincuore, già con il respiro provato per la lunga permanenza nella grande serra tropicale, l'ho visitata solo visivamente, perchè iniziava a girarmi la testa, non mi sentivo di rimanere molto al suo interno e in quel periodo le farfalle era oscurate per motivi di ciclo vitale trovandosi all'emisfero opposto del globo, così sarebbe stato ancora più difficile poter effettuare foto senza usare il flash, che per ovvi motivi non si poteva utilizzare dovendo stare le farfalle al buio.

Con queste ultime nozioni la nostra visita a questo meraviglioso orto botanico si è conclusa, come allora anche ora che ne riparlo sono estremante soddisfatto di aver scelto di effettuare questa visita che mi ha permesso oltre a scoprire importanti piante provenienti da tutto il mondo, anche di immergermi nella grande cultura botanica Olandese, che ammiro profondamente e ringrazio per avermi dato la possibilità di scoprirla con il suo splendido e antico orto botanico.

Amsterdam is a marvel to be discovered in all its aspects, culture, tradition, architecture and social life, like all of Holland, a country that I love madly and to which one day I dream of moving to stay and live there. I strongly advise you to visit this splendid country, which really offers a lot from every point of view, giving you a new and better vision of the world and life, thanks to an advanced and progressive mentality. At least this is what he left inside me, opening my eyes to the important things and letting go of silly social preconceptions, which are useless, thanks to trips I made to Amsterdam, I learned and started working on myself and on my interior, to improve myself and live life with more serenity. Traveling is also this and it is the reason why I wholeheartedly invite you to travel when you can, because discovering different cultures and interacting with the world can only enhance your person.

Amsterdam è una meraviglia da scoprire in tutti i suoi aspetti, cultura, tradizione, architettura e vita sociale, come tutta l'Olanda, un paese che amo follemente e nel quale un giorno sogno di trasferirmi per rimanere a vivere la. Vi consiglio vivamente di visitare questa splendido paese, che offre veramente molto sotto ogni punto di vista, regalandoti una visione nuova e migliore sul mondo e sulla vita, grazie ad una mentalità avanzata e progredita. Almeno questo è quello che mi ha lasciato dentro di me, facendo aprire gli occhi sulle cose importanti e lasciando perdere preconcetti sociali sciocchi, che non servono a nulla, grazie a viaggi che ho fatto ad Amsterdam, ho imparato e iniziato a lavorare su me stesso e sul mio interiore, per migliorarmi e vivere la vita con più serenità. Viaggiare è anche questo ed è il motivo per cui vi invito con tutto il cuore a viaggiare quando potete, perchè scoprire culture diverse e interagire con il mondo, può solo che accrescere la tua persona.
