Weekend Word - "Nashta" means 'Breakfast' [Week 139]

Nashta is very popular name for Indians. Afterall the first meal of the day starts with Nashta. Nashta is the hindi name of breakfast. I thought, to introduce this name to everyone as I love to call it very early in the the day. Infact, my day starts with Nashta and without it, I am unable to concentrate on any work.

Especially on weekends , My nashta plate remains a special one. No matter what it is the food that help us to survive and Sunday, remain an idle days, I always love to have a variety of menu in my breakfast.

This is my today's plate of nashta, which constitutes of paratha (indian chapati with applied Ghee), Gajar ka halwa (homemade carrot sweet dish), fried potato and chopped onion fritters. Do not look at the mess on my plate, I just manage to get all the stuffs casually to enjoy every bite.
Not sure how this words derived in Hindi, but while looking for the roots I found out new word for breakfast. It is called morgenmete which was used in the 13th century, before being displaced by breakfast in the 15th century. I shared my nashta plate on whatsapp starts and received mixed reaction from.my contacts. Some were surprised with heavy food item, while many loved it.

I am in habitual for a heavy breakfast since my early days. I followed on my grandfather words of having a good meal early in the day. As we are unsure about how our day will progress. He was very particular to have a good meal before stepping out of home. Also he favors to have home cooked food more than any outside food. Home cooked food is far more better than any other food items. This is a leaf out of the farmers lifestyle.

And I noticed too, that if I skip my breakfast or did not have a proper meal early in the day, I am unable to eat properly during the entire day, unless and untill I reached home. Either get stuck in works, meeting or spoiled with other urgency. So make sure to have a good meal in nashta early in the day to have a good and happy time for rest of the day.

Peace!!

Namaste @steemflow

I do practice heavy meal for breakfast as well and then eat less as the day progressed, sometimes ending eating no dinner at all :)

That looks like a heavy meal indeed.

Ese desorden esta bien rico, imagino el olor de ese plato, me causa ganas de comer, muchas gracias por tu post.👍 Un buen desayuno te hace un buen día ya que debe tener muchas proteínas para el desgaste del dia.

Wow, my last name is "Nash" and now I'm interested in the etymology of the word from my family history, because we're of Irish/Scottish descent!
... your "nashta" looks amazing. Now I'm hungry.😁
