Very strong production but very uneven film, clichédura and emotionally indifferent.

Im Westen nichts Neues is one of the bequeathed-to-humanity novels about the industrial-scale human slaughter that was the First World War.
The film succeeds and captures in the very first minutes this dimension of horror, and indeed with an excellent, simple and very ominous Leitmotif that accompanies the gears of the war machine throughout the film. From there, however, the film is hooked on the cliché "wicked and inhuman administration, dishonorable scumbag who sends our youth to war to die so that the fat nobles can eat glazed quail", silencing the dimension of the conflict that will make us care about the outcome therefore also for the heroes. And a war film in which you do not care about the survival of the heroes very quickly loses its interest and emotional impact, which is the essence of Remarque's work.
Other negatives: The presence of Daniel Brühl (I hate him). The Tragic Performance of St Chamond's Crawlers. The very poor performance of the raid scenes (shame for such a production).
On the plus side: Unbelievably good night photography. Excellent scenography. Music of course.
And most importantly: The only film that fully captures tank terror, the particular terror it describes when infantrymen face the overwhelming superiority of armored vehicles for the first
time.
The film stars Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuch, Daniel Brühl, Sebastian Hülk, Aaron Hilmer, Edin Hasanovic and Devid Striesow.
