Elon's Twitter

I read that Elon Musk reduced the amount of tweets that a non verified account can read each day

So I thought, why not talk a bit about Twitter after Elon Musk acquired it? From what I understand, immediately after the acquisition, Twitter downloads spiked and it experienced a 42% growth. However, that was probably due to curiosity and the new air Elon brought to the table. But after many months, Elon bought Twitter for $44 billion, and according to estimations from Fidelity, it is now worth around $15 billion. That is a significant drop, which is not good.

Regarding my personal user experience, I must say it is a lot worse than before. Yes, the blue mark and the $8 fee for verification are helping the company create more revenue, but for me, it has made things more complicated. Now, anyone can become a scammer or create a misleading account, so you can't trust the checkmark as an indicator of a verified account.

The worst part, for me, is that my timeline now shows tweets from people I don't even follow and don't care to see. If I want to keep the accounts I want to read in my feed, I have to click the notification button because I will almost never see them otherwise.

Many believed that Elon will save twitter and make it a true free speech platform that will put users first but twitter is a business and the first thing Elon will want is to make profit and of course push his own agenda.

I totally agree with you, the use of blue tick has given room for some scammers truly. Regarding the new “Rate limits” well i only feel for twitter users with high reputations as for me i don’t care, i said that because I’m not a twitter regular yes i do have account but i don’t really engage on the platform.

Well he did say “temporary” hopefully they’ll find a way to resolve it soon!

I think Elon is shifting more to a business perspective on how he operates Twitter. This could come at a cost in terms of user satisfaction or experience. But I guess he has to find ways to recoup his investment and become profitable. I'm not a frequent Twitter users but I'm keenly interested on how things will unfold.

Yes but if that makes him loose users it will hurt the revenues i guess.

It definitely will. And I think it will be harder to get new users in the future. Perhaps, he will be targeting a different market segment.

Elon's Twitter guess was a failed one and this time, he disappointed grossly. He's just good at building hype around himself, and in the end, nothing good shows up for it. Twitter is so mess-up right now that he even had to regulate how much tweets we see. The place is now a zone for porn and a lot of anomalies. I can see the demise of Twitter a few years or even months if nothing is done to remove him from the ill-management position he occupies and let things be done more traditionally.

He is transforming Twitter in a totally different platform.

I can´t confirm, for me it didn´t worsen. I think it is still a good source of e.g. politically incorrect information I would miss otherwise.

The incorrect info and the enormous amount of scam will never stop.

Yes, you need your judgement to sort out the trash. It helps if you mute Tweets you find inadequate. The algorithm learns and then provides less bullshit.

So glad to see you post on this. I wanted to say something about Musk's Twitter, but lacked a suitable forum (suitable for me).

The whole Musk regime is a turnoff for me. He runs it like a workshop. All those rules! Wow, who needs it? Twitter was never an aspect of business for me. It was a place to meet like and unlike minds from across the world. I enjoyed the no-holds-barred feel to it. Musk is an uptight control freak (my opinion).

As soon as an alternative is available with the same openness Twitter used to have, I will join that. Right now, Hive will comprise my social media interaction. For me that is what Hive represents--a place to meet like and unlike minds, and also a place to share my writing. (Facebook et al. are not a good fit. The chatter and 'sharing'--not my thing)
