Exploring in a national holiday

Yesterday it was a National and religious holiday in Greece, 6th of January is the day Eastern Christians commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his manifestation to the world as the Son of God. The spot marked by Al-Maghtas in Jordan, adjacent to Qasr al-Yahud in the West Bank, is considered to be the original site of the baptism of Jesus and the ministry of John the Baptist. This day is called Epiphany or Theophany ( Θεοφάνεια ) and it is the Second most Holy day after Easter. For this day there many traditions and customs that differs in each region but the most common is to go to the Church in the morning and we are gathering in beaches and lakes and anything you can imagine to throw a cross inside and some guys are also dive to try and catch it. Anyone that catches it first wins, i am not sure if you actually win something other than a praise of the ones gathered there. After all that are over we are going to taverns , cafes ,travelling etc , etc . And thats what i did today the day was sunny and the temperature even got to 17 Celsius. And the i reminded of the recent gem post i have found in the profile of @slobberchops about Urban Exploring and i tried to do the same , i was lucky i had my GoPro Hero 8 with me . Next time i will shoot with my Camera but today was really spontaneous.
So first stop was the Monastery Of Saint Dionysus the Olympian. Thas the new monastery there is on high in the mountains that was build in 1542 but it was really far and i will go another time.

What a view

Thats the entrance of the settlement of the monks but it was closed at that time

Here, it would never happen, the women would tear it down and protest!

The odd thing is that men can enter in women’s monasteries .

Hey there, this is a good post, but isn't in the right community. This community is about natural places and the adventures that happen there and also firearms and archery...not cities, towns, buildings, churches and so on.

Please keep it on-topic as per the community guidelines and post excellent, non-community-focused content like this elsewhere.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure to what community to post because the post has a lot of things. Building , nature , monasteries etc etc.

No worries, it's always difficult to send that message when the post is so good, but I focus on keeping the community on topic, there's no point having it if I don't.

Those beautiful waterside take one's mind away from the hustle and bustle of their busy life. I feel that no matter how civilized the world becomes, Greece would relish and retain some of these historic places.

Watching the see you subconsciously take a brake from everything and live every second. Hope as a nation we can do the right things to show them off to the world

Great article for a great place! I have visisted the monastery and through your photos which are so characteristic, i lived this experience again! The whole custom ( the purification of the waters with dropping cross)is shocking, especially if you consider that there is a relative connection with the purification and sanctification of the waters in Ancient Greece (more specifically in Athens) with the feast of the Plinterians! In any case Χρόνια πολλά!
