Follow Friday: Embrace the chaos

The News

It is a good thing most Hivers do not worry about the short term fluctuations of the markets as things are down again, but when you have thirteen weeks to power down you think about the long game and we may be winning at that with lots of new projects.

Prices

I do not have much else to report on this week, but feel free to let me know of any big news for Hivers.

I have been doing a bit more coding around Hive. A couple of people wanted to extra lists of songs they had featured in posts over several years. I did a bit of Python using @hivesql and some regex to do that for them. It did not take long to write the code and one seconds to run it. I can make the code available if others want it.

Friday Follows

  • @wrestorgonline is a wrestling game based on Hive. Now we have games sound farming, beer, music and more. There is something for every taste and you can earn from them.
  • @howweroll are raising money to help a skateboarder get to a competition. She is not active on Hive yet, but efforts like this can show people what Hive can achieve.
  • It is good to see bassist @verhp11 return after a few months away from Hive. Sometimes real life gets in the way.
  • Another musician who comes and goes is @heymattsokol who also blogs about crypto and gaming. He is worth reading.
  • I have been using @splinterrents to rent out my @Splinterlands cards for a while. They seem to do a pretty good job. You manage it over Discord, but they have a site as well now with all the details.

The Doghouse

I do not have specific cases this week, but I will say again that if you only post and never comment then you are doing Hive wrong. You really ought to be commenting on posts by others and not just responding to replies on yours. That is how you expand your following. Find people who share your interests via communities or tags. Hive does not owe you anything by default. You need to get out and make yourself valuable. I am not so worried about the rewards, but I have put out hundreds of these #FollowFriday posts that may help others. That may be appreciated by some people. I give some of the rewards to those I mention.

Hive is a social platform and you have to engage. I know that does not come naturally to some people, but I would encourage you to try it.

The End

I have a busy weekend of running and music. Those will give me something to post about. I have developed a blogger mindset where I am often thinking about what I could blog. I have some regular posts I do, such as this one, but if you look there are plenty of themed tags you could join in with. For me it has to be fun and not just work.

Hive five!

I do see you commenting, but some do even less than you. I feel less inclined to support them because of it.

Ha, i'm glad you've noticed that i am commenting on others posts!

I'm trying to give up smoking from tomorrow, i am hoping to replace it with exercise, my shear size has started to get the best of me, exercise is key, i need to replace the buzz with something rather than just try and stop smoking and not fill that giant void in my life..

I thought you already gave up the fags! I know it's not easy, but you'll save a lot of money if you do.

Fill the void with music and other fun stuff.

I also don't like it when my comment goes unnoticed. It's very annoying, I think you can't get used to it. Thank you very much for the informative post.

Those who don't respond to comments get less support from me and probably others too. You get out what you put in.

Maybe I'm wrong, but lately the Hive platform reminds me of a private firm that employs relatives and acquaintances of the CEO. This is my independent opinion, so to speak, a view from the outside. Thank God I don’t have envy, I’m used to relying on my own strength. I think the time will come and the Hive blockchain will be available to all ordinary users. Good luck sir and all the best. 🙏

There are groups who support each other, but most people worked to get noticed. We don't have a CEO. I've clocked up over 50k comments. That's how I got noticed.

I meant a little different, but still thank you very much for answering my comment.

You're so right about engagement as far as commenting is concerned. When I first joined back in 2017 absolutely no one saw my posts.

Then with nothing to lose, I decided "what the hell, nobody's going to see my stuff so I may as well check out some other posts."

And THAT'S when things started to happen.

Leaving thoughtful comments over time is the key to making lasting connections on Hive. Give it a try, you won't regret it! (remember: thoughtful ). :)

Exactly! I was one of the most active commenters early on and built a following from that. Discovery has always been lacking here and that is why I do these posts, but anyone can get out there and make a good comment. It's not so hard, but it's best to be sincere.

And you know what? It only takes a little bit of effort to pitch in and add value where we can.

I am the same way with my weekends. I am always thinking about what I can be doing so that I can post about it. A lot of times I forget to take pictures, but the times I don't, I have some great posts to write up!

I just try to avoid it taking over my life. It's still a hobby for me, but I know some people have made a living here in the past and they may again if/when the price goes up. It would have to go up a lot given the cost of living here.

Engaging with fellow Hivers is a good way to build long term relationship.

That Splinterrents is pretty cool. I might have to check that out. I'm taking a little break from the game, would be nice to earn a little something instead of just letting the cards sit there. Great FF this week. Have an awesome weekend.

We are lucky to have all these tools. I love the Hive ecosystem.

Enjoy your weekend too!

I’d be interested in exploring some of your code. Extracting other sets of data perhaps would be interesting. Have you ever powered down? I can’t imagine doing it right now, want to keep stacking my HP forever!!

I've added the scripts here.

I have powered down to pay for a few things such as Hivefest and also my guitar. I also want to keep stacking, but sometimes you can treat yourself. Eventually I'd like to take some regular income from it.

I’ll figure it out in time. I quite like the idea of buying a synth out of it. Regular income is my goal too and that’ll take some time but that’s fine.
