Follow Friday: How high the moon?

The News

Last week I posted about $HIVE going up and it did it again this week. Perhaps it can stay above 40c and get back into the top 200 on Coingecko. Be sure to visit there and give it a thumbs up. It only has 75% approval right now and ought to be better. The page has been enhanced with some nice infographics recently.

Prices

I have been on Mastodon a fair bit since Twitter deteriorated under the new management. I prefer more open platforms anyway. I have found a strong anti-crypto sentiment. I responded to a 'toot' about NFTs today and one guy got quite abusive whilst others just sent links to anti-NFT articles saying it is riddled with scams. I will not deny that crypto has its share of scams, but it also has a lot of people trying to build cool stuff and not just for personal profit. I know there is a culture of 'crypto twitter', but does it has an equivalent on the 'fediverse'? Are so-called 'cryptobros' more interested in profit than decentralisation? Obviously they could use Hive and be earning.

Friday Follows

  • @nicklewis did his own #FollowFriday post last week. I do not claim any exclusive rights to the tag and would love to see lots more people helping others build connections. We each have our own interests and I will miss plenty.
  • @aliciamaples is a sales consultant who just joined Hive. She has lots of connections on other platforms and could help spread the word about this platform.
  • I saw a story about @gubbatv building a big food store in the Metro free newspaper this week and then I found out she is on Hive and has been for a while. It shows that I do not see everything. She has another account at @gubbahomestead.
  • @normie.fitness does posts about health and fitness that are always entertaining. He likes to dispel some of the myths about what is good for us.
  • @psyberx are posting some videos of their Hive-based first person shooter on @cast.garden.
  • @stickupofficial1 have been posting progress on their new recording studio. I love this sort of thing, but it may be a niche interest.
  • @modernzorker is into games and comics.

These all get a share of the post rewards.

The End

As usual near the end of the month I am looking out for people to add to the #BritList. I have found a few more and am checking that some of them are legitimate. I want to see big growth in Hivers in the UK this year with lots of meet-ups. If you need help compiling lists for your country then let me know as I have scripts that could be useful.

Have a great weekend.

Dunno why I read that whole mastodon thread but I don't mind if they keep their narrative going, the tides are turning no matter what they think.

It seems a closed-minded attitude to new options. I know a lot of them believe in the power of open source and they may also be about keeping control of your data, but if you don't run your own Mastodon node then you have to trust the admin.

What even is a 'cryptobro'?

That doesn't sound like a place that I would want to hang out. There are a lot of people who are anti-NFT and crypto, but I think it is mostly because they don't understand the technology. It's almost not worth it even engaging with them because they are so set in their thinking.

There are some Hivers on there and a lot of creative or geeky people I enjoy. Not all are so anti-crypto. We do have to accept that some people are just not comfortable with stuff we take for granted. Meanwhile we just get on with socialising here and we're not obsessing about crypto all the time.

I don't really spend too much time on platforms like that anyway. I have a couple Twitter accounts, but I never really use them. I just have the one to follow my nieces sports careers and the other one I use to share my Hive posts for POSH rewards.

As I said, I've more or less given up on Twitter. I still join in #HiveChat each week to support that and may share the odd tweet, but rarely post myself. I can go days without even looking at it. Musk is destroying some of what made it good.

I've never been on Mastadon, it's a shame that people got abusive, and yeah people are entitled to their opinions but the public opinion now is Crypto bad, especially NFT's.

I've noticed a lot of big gaming influencers come out more and more and talk about NFT's being a scam. See, in the gaming world, everyone hates, lootboxes, and micro-transactions. So NFT's fall somewhere in that catagory for mainstream gaming. There have been a lot of controversys, especially from EA in the past 6-8 years. Battlefront 2 was a great game, but lootboxes and micro-transactions rallied the community and the player base actually forced EA to remove them. Then Ubisoft, during the NFT craze announced making NFTs and people flipped their lids and that idea was stopped in it's tracks.

Play-2-earn is great, and as I see it, NFT's are much better for gaming, because now, if you have items, they're account bound, the only way to sell your items is by selling your entire account. Obviously NFT's are a better option buuut, the community has been fight Micro-transactions for so long now that even the idea of NFTs in gaming annoys most people, even though they are better, there is a huge "NO MICRO-TRANSACTIONS" mentality, it's a shame really, because IMO they are the logical next step. I can imagine if the change happened all gamers would benefit, but, the consesus is in and the wider community are very vocal.

Only one guy was actually abusive and calling me names. Some of them are stuck on NFTs being GIFs/JPEGs when they can be more than that and they don't have to consume massive energy to create. Should I waste my breath on convincing them? Sometimes I can't resist getting involved, but then I am not an expert on everything.

I think if you find someone who seems interested and wants to learn more, of course talking them and sharing some knowledge would be good. But, I think if someone has a biased opinion of them there's no point trying to change their mind.

Sad thing is, most people only truly respect the opinions of big time influencers/ celebrities and sometimes they're the only people that can sway others. So personally, I wouldn't waste the time and energy it takes to talk to 90% of people. It'll turn into a never ending back and forth.

I think the worst thing for NFT's and Crypto in general was the celebrities getting involved. Most of them got in at the top and when it went down they charged onto social media and raged, that's where most of the recent hate has come from.

There has been a lot of hype over crypto and some people got burnt when things went south. I'll keep doing posts there about the cool stuff on Hive and encourage anyone who seems interested. I do say that you don't have to invest anything if you don't want to.

Great stuff man, I think anyone who feels burnt or wants to learn more about Crypto in general should come to Hive. I knew very little when I joined and I've been able to learn a lot while getting involved in some really cool projects.

I've often thought of the idea of creating an advert or two for Hive and pool money to pay some low/ mid level YouTubers to sponsor the ads.

Anyone out there interested in fiction or being an author should be here on Hive with all of the great writing communities. My writing has improved so much since being here, also, being here would be a great way for someone to learn, grow and develop a writing skill, while potentially building a following and a little bit of confidence by making their writing public.

Before Hive, my writing stayed on my desktop gathering dust, or maybe got read by a few friends.

When I saw the "How High the moon?" title, I thought about the daytime moon I've been seeing lately. Which seems odd. Is daytime moon a thing? Did I not notice it more in the city because of crowded skylines? In the countryside there are lots of wide open spaces. Is that why seeing the moon in the day is more common?

Needless to say your title was not referring to celestial bodies, but Hive and it's upward pricing. Which is as good a moon as any to talk about.

I was prompted by this song.

I like seeing the Moon. I do not know the night sky too well, but I can often spot when there are planets to be seen. I think we need to be aware of how small we are in the scheme of things. Being humble is good.

Oh thanks bro for pointing out our post about the studio!
It's indeed a bit niche but at least we find a nice amount of comments on these posts so it seems more people love seeing the progress.

Have a good one!

There are a fair few people here into making music and recording it. I think we need more posts on how to get good results. Maybe we need a dedicated community for that.

Wow Steve! You gave me such a warm welcome on my intro post and then mentioned me here? Thank you so much. I can't wait to earn more so I can reciprocate. Thank you again. See you around the HIVE hallways!

You are most welcome. It can be hard to get noticed on Hive and so I try to help out where I can. I hope to see more posts from you soon, but take your time to find your way around.

@steevc, you are such a wonderful cheerleader and supporter to folks getting started. Well and for those of us who are still learning and doing all the things. Thanks for being such a supportive guide and steward of Hive. !LUV
