The News

Another not so good week for crypto with most coins dropping. $HIVE is dropping a few places on @coingecko, but we should play the long game and value is being added all the time.

Prices
You can find my code to generate this chart on GitHub.

The Chaos Legion packs on @splinterlands are being distributed, but I think we have to wait a bit for the public sale after it being limited to those who got issued vouchers for holding SPS. I am sure some people got a lot, but I got my share with some decent cards. This is the biggest blockchain game out there in terms of players, if not in monetary value. We need more of them to look at other aspects of Hive now they have an account. I have seen a few blogging, but many will not even realise they can.

Not all Hivers are the same

I have been thinking about how people will have different strategies on Hive. I know that most people are out to make money, but you can do it in different ways. I see a lot piling into HBD savings which get a nice interest rate, but with HP you get a form of interest plus your curation that can give about the same return whilst also rewarding others. I see HP as the greatest aspect of Hive in that it is not all about self-interest and that is why I put everything in there.

You can also get into DEFI (which I do not fully understand) and invest in the games for a return. We have these choices. Some people will just go for maximum profit, but we should also consider what good Hive can do. If we do not support the creative small accounts then we will lose some of them and yet they could be adding value to the platform. I do worry that selfish behaviour could harm the potential of Hive.

Friday Followings

I shall feature musicians again as that is what I am into. We each have our own preferences, so why not do a #FollowFriday post including people you enjoy. I have another musician friend who just signed up and am waiting for them to post.

  • @ravenmus1c has been here for four years sharing her music and was an early legendary card in @risingstargame. She is concentrating on Hive and @threespeak to get her music out there as other platforms are not so great for small artists.
  • @davidfar is a musician from Iran who makes some great tunes and has been bringing others to Hive. Most of us will know little about the music scene there, so check it out.
  • @jeffandhisguitar is a great guitarist who certainly inspires me.
  • Closer to (my) home are the @stickupboys who are building a hub of musicians from the UK scene here. They are also great creators of GIF animations.
  • My friend @todayslight has written lots of songs that he is posting to Hive as he learns more about the recording process. I know the support he gets means a lot to him and I expect some people could give some tips on how to improve it. Hive can change lives.

These people get a share of the post rewards.

The Doghouse

Through the Hive-DR community I came across yet another account who upvotes all their own comments. There have been endless discussions about whether self-voting is legitimate, but I see it as selfish if you can earn anyway. You could still earn from curation if you support others. I know some fairly big accounts self-vote their posts that can earn good money regardless. Some do it across other accounts they control. They will not generally get a vote from me.

I do get that small accounts will be desperate and a self-vote may get them an extra couple of cents. I do not worry too much about those. I did it myself in the early days when a lot of my posts made nothing.

The End

It will be interesting to see how Hive fares over the next few months. We have some big airdrops and project releases coming up. We need to build on previous successes to make it to the go-to platform for creative people.

Hive five!

It's amazing how many people just don't realize the issue with upvoting their comments. Nice list of people you have there this week. Hopefully the rest of the month gives us more green days than red.

I think some just do it out of habit. I have not self-voted for a long time on comments or posts as it just feels wrong.

Yeah, that is likely the case.

Cheers @steevc - Never even thought about voting on my own stuff, ha, bit silly to do so though, like playing all my stuff on youtube myself a million times, and thinking myself a rockstar.. i don't think i could handle listening to one of my songs a million times anyway, haha. Happy Hive-ing.

We can do what we want here, but may get judged for it.

Hello! =) First, thanks alot for mentioning me! :)
And like you said, I think we have many options on Hive. For me as a musician AND a gamer it`s certainly awesome! And my head explodes of all the opportunities. :D I don´t know what to do first right now :D

We have to prioritise our time and I ought to spend more on music. I know I can't get into everything on Hive, but I can live with that. I do okay, but then I spent all that time connecting with people.

Rock on!

Yeah! I think that is the best thing to do. Put time into music and connecting with people! :) Sounds great. I so hope that I can quit my normal job soon and just do music and crypto. :)

As it's semi-stable I use it for getting funds ad-hoc. As I'm not working now, this is where it comes from. The 12% is a bonus.

I should have mentioned that it's quick access.. Some people need that. We have options.

The 3-day thing is handy, and then I tend to use the internal marketplace to swap in back to HIVE which takes a little time. Natively it trades on Bittrex but the volume is very low. That exchange seems to have lost a lot of ground.

While I always have a window on my second monitor with the price of $Hive up, I am not big on the people who NEED it to moon right now. Sure it would be nice but I prefer to concentrate on the innovations, use cases and new front ends as far as perceived value. That and helping expand the community of engaged blockchain citizens.

HBD has always been primarily a means to buy HP just like you. The APR on HBD savings seems to me a bit low when you could power it up and make more just clicking Upvote. Still, the pump in the value of Hive has inspired me to bank a bunch of HBD for a rainy day. Plus I am too cheap to buy Hive at this ratio and am coveting my precious HBD!

Hive 5 old friend!

It's not going to moon unless we get a lot more people on board, so building the community ought to be a priority. New dapps will help with that.

I get that some people want quick access to their funds, so savings are a better option for that, but I want to vote up the cool stuff. I will spend some again eventually though.

Thanks for the update as well as the new cards you let me borrow! I'm having a hard time completing my light quest, but I did rank up in splinterlands. I'm trying to push a photographer friend towards this site, we'll see if he makes an account!

Thanks for another great Follow Friday post! I missed it on Friday but just found it now...

About different earning strategies. For the time being I don't see much point in putting money into HBD for me personally. It's a great interest rate compared to what you can get on fiat outside crypto. But I'd rather either:

  1. Put it into things with even higher APRs on Hive like second layer tokens that drip rewards or into Diesel Pools or
  2. Power it up to increase my HP to increase my long term influence and curation power on Hive.

Anyway that's just my current preference - there are lots of options for growing our crypto and accounts....

You can get 36% on SPS, but it was much higher initially. The airdrop will go on for a while yet, so I'm stacking it.

I don't really understand the diesel stuff. I'm happy to keep powering up and helping out others. I want to see more people with a decent stake.

I've kept out of SPS/Splinterlands just because I suspect the game itself would be a massive distraction for me. And I haven't had time to research the tokens and whether it would be worth holding some even though I'm not playing it, hmmm maybe I should...

Totally agree about getting more people with a decent stake - it will be good for the Hive ecosystem and all of us.

I play it a bit, but some people just treat it as an investment. I just try to not spend too much time on it.
