Morning Run: Jon, gone!

I just finished a 16.006km running that lasted about 1hh:41mm:35ss !

My friend Jon posted on FB that he would be doing a long run today if anyone wanted to join him. I have run with him a few times and said I would again. I was up fairly early so I could get something to eat and headed to the meeting point. There was no sign of him, so I waited around for a while and even ran back down the road to look for him, but it seemed I had missed him even though I had messaged him earlier to say I was coming. Eventually I went back home to get my phone and headphones. There were no further messages from Jon, so I set out on my own long run.

I like to include a weather report. It felt a bit warmer than yesterday with no frost, but Strava reckons it was around freezing. It is overcast, so that may make it feel warmer.

I did an extended version of my usual Sunday loop. I went around the Fairfield and Stotfold estates and then out towards Astwick before cutting across the fields back to the Arlesey road. It ended up a bit further than I anticipated, but I need more long runs anyway.

My legs are fairly tired after this plus the 9km yesterday for parkrun, but nothing is really hurting. I took it fairly steady today and the pace was not too bad. The average is slow due to me waiting around for Jon.

I have since heard that he must have left just before I got there to do his intervals workout. He found some other people to run with for a while. He can be much quicker than me, but he does not mind slowing down to my pace. I saw quite a few other runners out there today. As I came into Arlesey a couple of guys were coming the other way at a good pace. I could not have kept up with them.

Run free and stay well.

Was Jon the reason why km 2 was such an outlier?

Yes, that was me waiting around. I could have stopped the watch then. I am sure we must have just missed each other. It's possible he didn't have a phone on him either. That used to be how life was all the time :)

I still got a good run though.

and what a time it was! If you didn't turn up where you said you were going to when you said you were going to be there, you missed whatever it was that you were meant to have been doing.

We survived though. My kids live in a very different world to what I grew up in. I didn't even have a mobile phone until after they were born.
