SHORT STORY SERIES - Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves by Arabian Nights
Reading a short story is as fun as reading a complete book, except you get to enjoy all the thrills in one sitting. I am well invested in short stories, so it counts as one of my favorite genres. I write short stories, hence one of the reasons for reading them. This particular story is more or less a book. It is seventeen-page literature that would take you some time to read, but it might be worth it.
This story has various versions. It is a tale from a collection of stories titled One thousand and One nights. The collection has some amazingly popular stories like Aladdin's lamp, Sinbad the sailor, etc. The authorship of this book is ascribed to Anonymous because the stories from the collection were written by numerous authors from different parts of the world.
PLOT
The story begins with two brothers, Ali Baba and Kasim, who lost their father and only acquired very little inheritance. Kasim went off and married a wealthy woman and forgot his brother while Ali Baba married a poor woman. In one of Ali Baba's works, he discovered a secret cave of criminals where they kept all their loot. He learned the phrase for opening the cave and went in to steal some treasures for himself. He then took it to his wife, who was ecstatic. She went to Kasim's wife to borrow a measure to count the money. Kasim's wife grew suspicious and devised a dubious plan to find out what she was counting. She discovered and told her husband who greedily went over to Ali Baba to blackmail him if he doesn't give him the secret of his wealth. Tragedy strikes and a series of events unfolds that is sure to leave the reader bewildered.
CHARACTERS
- Ali baba the protagonist.
- Kasim his greedy brother
- Morgiana the clever slave girl
- Cougia Husain, a nickname for the captain of the robbers
SETTING
There was no place mentioned in the story.
PURPOSE
Greed can bring forth a disastrous end.
I figured at some point this was a children story. Ordinarily, I'd have abandoned this no matter how far invested I was in this story, but I was particularly curious. The story is a seventeen-page piece that offers an elaborate tale of something trivial. It's simple, nothing advanced. The pertinent yet subtle features that make for a decent literature were absent in this story but I guess the fact that it's a children's story explains that. It's simple, yet profound. I have not much to say about it. I wouldn't so much recommend it to be honest. I would also rate it 2.5/5. Definitely not the best short story I've read.

Well, the whole plot of Arabian Nights is how a plot of stories to distract a man and give time to scape to a lot of people. The stories aren't related, but they give some insight on topics relate to Islam and Arabic culture.
True.
I think I will try to read up on the other stories.
I like how riddled this one was.
Nice to see you around Bert 😊
It's an interesting read. I remember we had an illustrated version of some stories around the house when I was a kid.
Likewise, buddy! 😄✌🏻

Thank you so much guys ☺️
Hmm, this story sounds like really fun, I think I've heard of it once but I didn't too interest in it but now that I've seen a glimpse of it, I'd love to read it.
Thank you for sharing it with us 🤗.
It's worth reading.
Thank you for stopping by.
It was my pleasure sharing it.
I'm sure it will.
You are welcome @stevenson7 😊.
I'm with you, it'd have overlooked it as a children's tale too. I loved that you call it 'literature' however, as it does imply something a bit more than simply being for young people. I might have to give this one a hunt too!
Tim
Cheers bud.
It maybe still gives that feel of reading something decent for an adult but it's more ideal for younger people.
Appreciate your comment mate. 🙏
Wow! I remember that I used to love this story since my mom gave me the book, it's really awesome.
Well, I also did guess it might be a children's story. But the thing is @stevenson7 these stories never age at all. For me, I still do pick up kids' books that I am sure that I'd the entire plot just from the title..😃 But they remain green!!
Well said, haha
Even a children's story can actually strike a chord
