The World-cup of Underdogs

I think if there is anything we can all agree on in this world cup is that this world cup is one of upsets. After today's game, between Belgium and Morroco, which saw the Morrocans take all three points, then I think we can all agree on that fact. The competition has been one full of surprises, so I'd try to analyze each of them so far.

The UPSETS

  • Argentina 1 - 2 Saudi Arabia - This was the first and most definitely the greatest of the upsets so far. Before this game, Saudi Arabia haven't won a game against any European opponents ever, and you definitely wouldn't bet against Argentina to lose this game. It was a no-brainer. Argentina is ranked the third-best team in the world, and Saudi-Arabia are ranked fifty-one. That's crazy.

  • Germany 1 - 2 Japan - This was an absolute shocker. Two teams far apart on the rankings with different levels of quality. Germany are literally one of the favorites to win this world cup, but they stumble to a resilient Japan. A late fight, saw Japan come back from behind to win two goals to one. Brilliant game.

  • Belgium 0 - 2 Morocco - and finally, today's shocker. Well, I wouldn't call it a shocker per se. Belgium have been woeful in this competition. The first game against Canada saw them get out ran, out-classed, and outplayed. It was just pure luck that they won. A Ziyech Inspired Morroco team took full advantage of the old legs of the Belgian team and ran out deserving winners. Great game.

This year World Cup is really full of surprises.

The World Cup has shown why it is the biggest sports event in the world. Who would have thought Japan will make a comeback on Germany with all the talent that squad has, it will be impossible to imagine that buy Japan made it possible, I still feel there is still more surprises to come in the world cup.
