Mexican Murals - Something Decent on the Casa Picnic [CCC's Street Art Contest #23]

avatar

There is one big wall not too far from where I live, where you can see new images pop up on a regular basis. It is the Casa Picnic, on the corner of Cto. Interior José Vasconcelos and Gob. José Maria Tornel. If you've been following my series, you may remember me mentioning this wall here and also here. Since they change the image every month or so, there have been many others. But I never bothered documenting advertisements for a famous Dutch beer brand... So yeah, Casa Picnic, keep trying, I said. And it did. Until just the other day I got to see this:

The Artist at Work

Okay, not true! What I got to see was even better than the finished mural. It was the muralist in action, as he was being photographed by a professional looking photographer. So I didn't linger too long, I just took a photo, and came back to see the completed image. That's when I saw that there was no signature tag of the artist anywhere to be seen. A quick search on the Casa Picnic revealed that the one in charge of this new painting was a certain Noble, but I could not find anything else on him.

A Word on Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez is a Mexican American singer and actress, and former child star, who not surprisingly is also quite famous in Mexico. This mural, along with a number of similar ones all across Mexico City, the State of Mexico, but also other cities like Guadalajara and Monterrey, is a promotion to her recent hits De Una Vez and Baila Conmigo.

This post is part of the Street Art Contest by CCC, where you can introduce cool example of street art, and have a chance to win some prizes. Up to now the participation has been low enough to give everyone a good chance to win, so if you're interested, check out the promt post, or visit the Street Art community page.

Oh my god, I seriously love murals! I always take pictures of them when I see a cool one, although this Covid thing has messed that up as I haven't been anywhere since (actually even before these months ugh)

But Selena looks so good, well done on the artist. And you live in Mexico? So jealous, I still have it on my bucket list and maybe even plans to end up somewhere there. But trying to keep an open mind for now as this covid thing is still so unpredictable that I don't want to hold my hopes up and take it one thing at a time. First thing is: a car, next where to move and starting a new business which will in the end probably pay for a move abroad :)

Will defo have to check out your other posts about the murals. For now, bed time!

Well, Mexico certainly is awesome in certain aspects. I wouldn't want to start a business here though... at least not officially, hehehe!

Good luck with your car, your business, and finding a great place to move to. In the meanwhile, enjoy my mural series!

haha, well the business will be started here anyways, and we'll just take it from there whenever we have options to move somewhere else. Open mind is needed in these strange times. It's actually a good thing we haven't settled down yet like in having our own property, because at least that's giving us options in terms of being able to go somewhere else. I will defo check them out, although the list was long I noticed :)

So a few at a time probably haha

Have a nice weekend!

I know, and it's only getting longer. Still, I have to keep adding to it, because from the very beginning I couldn't stand the thought of letting a post be buried and forgotten under more recent ones.

Wonder if she has an upcoming album drop or other significant reason this new image has gone up. That's a cool idea to change it out every month. I bet the layers of paint will become very thick through the years.

Most likely! The Casa Picnic is big on all sorts of commercial promotions, and since Selena is popping up on murals all across Mexico, some upcoming tour or album release is likely. Wait a sec, we're in the middle of the Covid pandemic, so scratch that concert tour.
