My 1000th Post on Hive - A Tally of the Things I Have Posted About

avatar

The time has come... I can't believe it! For the longest time this benchmark point seemed so far away, I didn't even bother thinking about it. And when I saw how close I was getting, I got thinking about it so much that it ended up seeming like it was going to take the longest time to get there. But now, I can proudly say:

This is my 1000th Post - Hooray!

When I first started blogging, six and a half years ago, I gave myself the guideline of keeping my posts under a thousand words. Then after a while this attitude become less strict, and occasionally I went way beyond that. Other times the nature of the post kept it way below that line. I'm not going to count it, but I sort of assume that I have written around a million words on this blockchain. If we take all the comments and replies into account, I guess I have passed that long ago.

Numbers, Stats, and Comparisons

Just like with my annual Hiversery, this gives me an opportunity to reflect back on what I have done over the past years. The statistics from HiveBuzz provide some idea of how well I have done. But then again, does it really make a huge difference? I know some Hiveans have published a lot more pots, more frequently, while organizing communities and being otherwise active on the chain. For others the exact opposite is true. Some may even become inactive for a while, only to come back full force later on. So ultimately, as they say, the race is long and in the end it's against yourself.

What Do I Post About?

There is one thing I'd like to reflect on, however: Having written 1K posts on various subjects, what can I say, what do I post about? When I started I had an idea of the things I wanted to be writing, as you can see on my profile: Nature, Culture, Sustainability, Murals, Food, Bicycles. And indeed, these have been my most preferred topics. This is how they break down in their categories, with the help of the post collections I have grouped them into.

Sustainability:
My lengthy discussion of Permaculture Principles have 20 posts in them, Permaculture Theory and Practice 36 Posts, the Mazunte Earthship Build 48, the Doighouse Earthship Build 14 and the Stone Dragon project 11. Together that makes 129 posts. I guess I should also include the 72 philosophical discussion posts, prompted mostly by @ecotrain , which have been also very sustainability focused. To say that roughly 20% of my posting is regarding the very wide topic of sustainability, I feel very comfortable with.

Food and Health:
I know, the two don't necessarily overlap, but then again, they do go hand in hand. So does culture, nature, and sustainability, by the way, but let's see how my food posts measure up: I've got 24 posts specifically about Mexican cuisine, and another 40 in my more general food-post collection You Are What You Eat. Plus, there is my short but sweet collection on The Art of Bathing with 8 posts. I may as well throw in the 14 posts I wrote about experiencing the pandemic, even though those are more about socio-cultural issues rather than human health. Anyway, with 86 posts this topic is kept pretty much at a minimum. Not a problem, just good to know.

All Things About Bicycles:
Let's move on to my bike posts, which may as well fall into health or travel, or ... well, just remain its own category. I've got 23 posts in For The Love of Bicycles about fixing and building bikes, as well as hosting Warmshower guests. Then there are 10 posts about riding bikes around Vancouver Island, and finally, my big bike trip down the West Coast From Cascadia to Aztlán with 34 posts. Only 67 posts in total??? Makes me feel I must have forgotten some! Maybe I will scroll through my 1000 posts to make sure...

Street Art and Murals:
This brings me to what I guess will be my most extensive topic of street art from around the world. I feel double fortunate in this regard, on one hand that I happened to have been living in places where murals are quite common, and on the other hand, for being offered such a wonderful venue to share them in CCC's weekly Street Art Contest. Let's see how I tally up in my various collections: In Mexico I have collected 136 murals, in Los Angeles 15, in Berlin 22, and that's not even all of it! I remember having posted a handful Canadian murals, as well as the occasional piece in New York, Budapest, etc. which I couldn't include in any collections. So throwing it all in together, this topic also gets close to the 20% mark. Very well!

Culture:
Right, I know! Which topic won't fit into this category? But this is where I want to add up my reviews about music (66 posts), TV series (35), books (only 19!), and travel. The latter one doesn't even have a collection of posts, simply because my travels are always connected to something else. The only exception is what I posted about Whakatane, New Zealand (11) when visiting my parents there. That makes 131 posts. I would have guessed there'd be more.

Anything Else?
Having exhausted my collections, this leaves about a third of my posts unaccounted for! What else have I written about? Things that don't fit into any of my collections? Or have I simply forgotten to add them? I know, many posts have to do with my activities on the blockchain (including this one), dealing with HiveEngine tokens, trying out platforms, and of course playing various games. Actually, most of my posts from the last few months have been these stand-alone uncategorized posts, which doesn't mean they're any worse. Though I'm a bit afraid they will end up getting lost in the back-scroll, as I continue posting.

Looking Into the Future

So what lies ahead? How am I going to continue my Hive journey? I am sure I will keep on posting, more or less the way I have been for the last six-and-a-half years. One thing I keep pushing ahead of myself is to get more into videos, which is my next big step. Otherwise, I really don't know it myself, but I will remain open for whatever comes up. To anyone who is reading this, my great THANK YOU goes out to you, since after all, it is all of you who give me the motivation to post. Now, on to the next 1000 posts...!

Thank you so much! I know from previous posts of this kind, that these recap kind of topics are not the most exciting ones. So I really appreciate your comment!

Congratulations on your 1000th post :)

More precisely, on the persistence and being six and a half years on Hive 🤓

Although there are several topics you cover, a music-related post {Halász Judit} was the first one I read from you, some three years ago (if I remember well) 😉

For sure! At first I liked it because I enjoy categorizing things into separate areas... But the real benefit of these collections is that you can find an old post quickly and easily without having to scroll back forever.
