Lights On, Masks On!

Hasty judgement

Frowns of disgust

Thoughts full of contempt

Hides

Swollen despair

Pale insomnia

Blushing Excitement

Stops

Obstructs?

Deforms?

Preserves?

Smooth as porcelain
And just as fragile

I keep it always at arm's length.

Every day I polish the wrinkle-free surface.

Blood leaves stains that are hard to remove

Acid sweat bites through the hard coating

Tears leave dirty smudges

I think it's starting to wear off

I'm starting to use it only for Special Occasions

Casual Conversations

Family gatherings

It's no longer as white and shiny as it used to be

It's weighing me down more and more

It used to fit like a tailor-made suit

And now?

It bothers me

Slipping away

Maybe it is no longer mine?

An intricate web of experience covers my tired face

The lines of wonder run farther and farther

The crease of anger is getting deeper and deeper

The plains of a smile seem more and more vast

I no longer look for pretty phrases that make me look good

Wise quotes, high-flown words

I don't have to change the world into my shape

I don't have to shape myself to fit the world

I'm no longer afraid.

Not anymore.

Masks, whether metaphorical or colourful like a carnival, have always intrigued me. Hiding one's thoughts or even one's identity seems a bizarre desire. And yet! This is what we do every day. It can be tiring...

About the drawing

This time I am not including a reference photo(or rather the two I used) because of the nudity. I think drawing the naked body has paradoxically little in common with photographing it. In both cases, we can play with light and mood - but I feel that photography captures a very precise moment in the model's life, whereas drawing willy-nilly represents a spectrum, especially when drawing from nature. The model cannot stay in one position for too long, especially when it is 'unnatural' for the body. The body 'settles', changes alignment slightly and almost shape over time. This gives us an image composed from a certain stretch of time, rather than a very specific moment in time. I often think about this when drawing.

In the original pictures, the posing girl had strings attached to her joints like an animation puppet. I decided to free her from the bonds and leave only their marks on her body. I think the impact of the 'conducted' pose itself is clear enough. Bluntness can sometimes be too painful, even when it's just a line on paper.

Working with a tablet gives me a lot of new opportunities. Lately I've been spending quite a lot of time playing with animation. I think I will soon switch to a slightly more sublime medium(than Canva;), but for now - it gives me a lot of joy:)

I started working with soft marker tool, but I didn't like the effect, so I swapped to
'pencil'

So I deleted whole layer, and started over with a pencil tool.

Beautifully said and drawn. I can relate to a lot of it.

It has been a long time that I have drawn from a live model, I liked it, the quiet atmosphere and focus. Now I use photos as well (sketchdaily has a ton of poses to cycle through).

Thank you very much! I haven't used sketchdaily just yet, gotta look into that:) Thank you for the tip!

Yeah, I would prefer to draw from live model, but with little time I have is nearly impossible to arrange. But I really miss that, I have to admit that.

Thank you for your visit @oceanbee
