Hey! It is my turn!
Each of us has many contradictions within us and each of us has to deal with this fact on a daily basis. We very much want a simple, black and white world, but if we look long enough - we see endless shades of grey.
I do not like compromises. Compromises make the food taste bland, the films shallow and emotionless and the characters in books lack of emotions and essence. As my Mum so neatly put it, 'what is for everyone is for no one'.
And yet in life we need compromises. Not only to coexist with the nature that surrounds us, but with other people who are also struggling with their inner contradictions. We are looking for the mythical 'golden mean', a common thought, a common voice. Only dialogue can help us get a little closer to an ideal solution, but how can we find a common language with nature and other people when we ourselves are filled with doubts and each of our 'personalities' wants to have its own voice, its own turn.
Ambition, the need for security, the desire for change, the need for stability. Anger, sadness, resignation, euphoria. How different is our inner life from the one we present? Which voice is our voice? Is the voice of reason? Or the voice of the idealist? The voice of the optimist? The voice of the pragmatist? Who, at any given moment, should open our mouths and through them expose ourselves to the world? Whose turn is it? How do I decide?
What if I am a choir?
A chaos of voices.
A tornado of thoughts.
And a wall of silence.
What I believe in very deeply is the possibility of shared experience. When we experience similar situations, when we read the same books, when we feel the same grass under our feet - it allows us a very deep communion of thoughts and experiences. Instead of exchanging experiences, we comment on this one common experience. And even though our feelings differ, they revolve around one theme. Finding this one common experience, this one common thought, this one common melody is like discovering a new land. And building a new universe. When you find a familiar soul, your inner conflict ceases to matter, because what you say ceases to be infinitely meaningful - because there will be many more conversations, many more trips and sunsets together...
It's always more fun to argue with someone than with yourself. Don't you think?

At first, I thought it was a crown that the person being dragged was reaching for, but I followed your link to Kaffousias and realised that it is the lower jaw and effectively the ability to have a voice 😭It makes me consider the various possibilities of oppression by others and suppression by the self. Both the inner and outer struggles and fights continue. Whew! Your drawings and accompanying thoughts are always so powerful, Strega 💗I spent too many years trying to placate and keep everyone happy across my family and friendship groups until I finally realised that in trying to achieve the impossible, I was leaving myself bereft of energy and unhappy. And contrary to the intended outcomes, my efforts were not appreciated anyway. And so now, I spend more time doing what makes me happy, whilst still having consideration for others near and dear to me. We should never have to compromise our ideals and values for others. Love your blog, truly. A genuine voice is a rare thing of beauty... and you have it. !LUV ps: enjoy your stay with your parents - precious times indeed!

I am glad that you find a second layer in my posts and drawings. It's very important to me to not only get consistency in content between what I write and what I draw, but also to keep a metaphorical layer that allows everyone to see and understand things in their own way. Individually.
Unfortunately, I know very well what you are talking about. It also took me a long time to understand that fulfilling other people's dreams and expectations is a road to nowhere. I also lost a lot of time. But I'm slowly regaining my voice and feel that I'm standing firmly on two feet. Although with my head in the clouds:)
I am very happy that you are doing what you love. This way you are happy and you can share this happiness with others:)
