The Curtain Falls

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro prawe.png

At last!
Long awaiting departure

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro prawe.png

Darkness is closing around me

Will release me from my oath

The body expiration date

Now when it's falling apart

Downfall is inevitable

Let me sleep
and embrace the silence.

Desire and attachment

We desire every day and on special occasions. We desire loudly and quietly. We desire burning with shame and completely liberated. We desire upon waking and at sunset. We desire in secret and we desire openly.

The threads of attachment get tangled under our feet. We pluck one away with the other to find that we have tied another few threads attached even before dinner. Pulling them out from under our ribs is painful, but necessary for us to be able to breathe. We become attached to people, things, places.

To life.

podwojne pioro zlote gradient.png

Life is fragile

For me, dark humour is an invaluable aid in the worst moments of life. When everything hits the ground running, sitting in a hole and crying is of no use. We can tell ourselves that 'feelings need to be thrown out', 'shouted out', 'talked out'. Digging into difficult subjects is good material for poetry or a book. In real life, gaining distance from ourselves and our concerns works much better. And I don't mean running away from problems. I mean detachment as the transformation of traumatic experiences into something completely different.

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

Using humour to tame the misfortunes that happen to us and will befall us despite our best intentions. Laughing despair straight in the face is not the easiest thing to do and is dangerously close to madness. Pushing the boundaries can be troublesome and of course - we expose ourselves not only to ridicule or pity - but also to aggression.

We risk a lot by defying social norms, but this is often the only good option, especially when suffering is frequently knocking at the door. In that case, we don't have many tools at hand other than fortitude and the grotesque. I speak for myself here, of course.

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

For some, the presence of loved ones, head strokes and warm words work.

For me, calmness and extreme stoicism in dramatic situations or those without a way out - leading me to blind fury. Wild, uncontrollable fury. I know that rebellion in the face of death is simply ridiculous, but nothing drives me off balance like apathy. Mainly because - I am not nearly capable of such a feeling.

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

I cry at films, I get angry watching the news, I can't sleep after watching documentaries showing the cruelty of nature.

My only weapon is laughter. Jokes so inappropriate that I don't trust myself to tell them to anyone except my better half and my diary. Jokes so nasty that by the time they leave my mouth I'm already disgust by them. Dark humour grips me tightly in its embrace and only awaits a moment of weakness.

podwojne pioro zlote gradient.png

About drawing

I keep writing that I 'love' something, or 'adore' something, or 'collect' something... but really my interests are a swirling vortex of entropy :D

Actually there is no animal that I don't find fascinating, so I can't say that chameleons are any special to me. Nevertheless, I find them absolutely remarkable, not only biologically but also aesthetically. Eyes that rotate independently of each other, a tongue that looks like a stretched-out jellybean and colours that even the most beautiful butterflies can't match... And the way they walk... always makes me laugh.

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

This time, however, there will be no colour exposion or crazy close-ups of eyes. There will be a corpse. A teeny - tiny corpse, mummified by the relentless rays of the sun. The dried out tiny body of a chameleon is not some kind of crazy uncommon thing. But I admit that I myself have come across photos of these creatures in an already stale state - quite recently. And as a great fan of anatomy - I appreciate the opportunity to study the creatuce in depth without having to hurt the animal:)

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

Only thig I did differently this time around is the paper – I dyed it slightly using strong brewd earl grey tea. I added pictures documenting the process for those who mind be interested.

As always – super excited to see comments from you!

gold gradient pojedyncze pioro.png

If you like this kind of darkness - here is a post with a similar tone:

The grotesque as an antidote to the everyday humdrum.

HAHAHA! Yeah, I guess that’s true at the moment!
Not sure how long I’ll be able to keep up the song a day thing on the other account, but I’ve got a series or two that are both pre-recorded and scheduled out to 2026 on this side, which probably does make me look even busier :)

Oh, I remember your somewhat dark posts, I may not always (hardly ever?) comment but I read them. They're fascinating. Pretty much everything you write and draw is. This post is no exception.
Nature can be is cruel, dark and beautiful at the same time. Your art makes it beautiful all the time.

p.s. I like the tinting of the paper with tea, gives it an aged, weathered look that's very appropriate to this subject

It make me happy that you like my work!

You....

I'm at a loss for words. I love love love everything about this

my favorite was the section on desire. I want to frame it hehehe

you are such a force of nature hehehe. I bless the day I met you... you've moved into my heart and I'm.trapping you here and I don't care if you're my prisoner.... lolololol

now I know why you wanted to see the little present my vulture gave me HAHAHAHAHHAA

you are magnificent hehehe...and that is not a bit of hyperbole!!!

More poetry for @dreemsteem- noted:)

now I know why you wanted to see the little present my vulture gave me HAHAHAHAHHAA

It is make me bad person, that I wish it happens again, so you can take a pictures and I can actually see it? It probably does, right? I am sorry... 😈

HAHAHAHAHAHA well i guess i shouldn't have said carcass... it wasn't a carcass...

it was only guts hahahaha LOTS and lots of guts. splattered LOLOLOL

and i thought i got it all - but nope - the other day i noticed i have some "vulture guts jerky" in my grill hahahaha

GEEZ. its the gift that keeps on giving hahahahaha one more car wash and all will be right with the world LOL

but whenever i actually DO find a carcass - i will take a picture for you hahahahaa

speaking of peacocks... two of our neighbors own them! and let them wander the mountain on their own. hahaha did you know peacocks are amazing "guard dogs" hahaha yep!

now i haven't seen their plumes in a while.... but I do remember sometimes they sit on the top of the fence and their tail feathers reach far out to the ground and beyond hahaha

only sad thing - since the wander on their own - they really don't have any fear of cars. Probably because people always stop for them if they see them. but the other day - someone hit one, and it was just left on the road :(

probably someone very unfamiliar with the mountain and just flying fast without thinking. and i know you're gonna ask if there was a carcass. hahaha but - i don't think it was a carcass yet. lol just smooshed.

also - i had to look up jackdaw hehehe

we don't have them here

we have crows and ravens. did you know that ravens can be taught to speak like parrots? hahahaha

they are so smart! crows are REALLY smart too. i have a group here that are highly intelligent. they do very very strange things hahahahaha

you would enjoy observing them. I found them once having a town meeting... and i tried to record them- but they are EXTREMELY sensitive to video recordings. I dont' know how they know it but they can even see when you slowly slowly slowly move to lift your phone in the dark behind the patio glass door!!! seriously -they sense something and they dont' ike you to video record them

I'm sure they are plotting daily. hahahaha and they want NO RECORDS of their meetings LOLOL

i haven't seen them in a while because i work in the day hehehe but they used to really plot all sorts of things.

hahahaha crows are interesting - but ravens are really extraordinary. you can train them to befriend you and bring you gifts hehehe

ok enough about all that hahaha

You don't have jackdaw? Love those birds. Quite small(not sparrow-small, regular small :D), black feathers that shimmer in navy blue and purple :)
belong to the corvidae group, so they are also not stupid birds, love those:)

did you know that ravens can be taught to speak like parrots?

Oh yeah, you can teach them to sing too, although those sounds need good deal of acquiring :D And they can be very affectionate too, but they need way more time to bond with 'owner' than parrots. And the thing is - when time comes - they will leave you anyway. They would come back every now and then to visit, but freedom is more precious for them than anything else:) And that I respect!!

I love all corvidae birds. The are very careful, and they always know what you are up to! Plus they look like old man with his hand in the pockets when the walk, it is hilarious to watch!

Funny enough - raven is on my list to draw, but I have looong list :D

I agree completely... I'm a huge fan of words and using them well... and she does. I truly enjoy intellectual minds with hearts to match. That piece on desire... There is a level of transparency here that meets us squarely in a place reflective of our own vulnerabilities, our trappings - our weaknesses as human beings on display. It's direct. It's honest. It hits hard because we recognise it within ourselves - it may be possible to hide from the world for a while, but we cannot deny what is visible to the inner eye... and @strega.azure is not afraid to hold the mirror up for all to see.

But still... desire is transmutable.

Loved the artwork here too - the vulnerability of a spectacular creature, even in death, lovingly and reverently held in the palm of one's hand. Your triptych feels like a representation of the circle of life embracing death. !LUV

So gutting(metaphorically of course) oneself on the internet is way easier than talking in real life. And walking this road further - drawing about stuff is way easier than writing about them. For me at least.

Plus the medium used by one to describe internal monologue or emotional state - can make all the difference I guess. I like the notion that ones pain can put smile on others faces. And I don't mean that in bad way.

What I mean - our experience both good and bad can be a source of knowledge for others. That is exact reason why we read books, why we listen to music, why we look at paintings. It is painless way to learn, to experience ways and means beyond all what we can imagine in our own heads.

It is a kind of transfusion of thoughts but stripped of their troublesome aspects.

I don't know. Words fail me today :D

The word 'transcendental' is banging around my skull, but it also sounds somehow snobbish and crass in the same time...

Thank you very much for your comment @jessicaossom!

I suppose trying to catch the transience of a moment, the elusiveness of a thought, is for me the essence of writing. Only then what we write is really honest. At least - I think that.

But finding the words when we are very emotional - it's really very difficult, and here - a medium like a pencil is much easier to navigate - it doesn't require naming thoughts in words. The words come much more easily later, once you've 'drawn them out'.

Thank you for popping by!

This is truly dark and you did it in a very artistic way. Despite the dark theme of both the written Content and the follow-up graphic, your creativity and artistic skill made it very intriguing. Hehe.

I was hooked from the intro of the post. Wow! I have a special liking for poetry although I'm not someone that writes one. Haha. The structure of your intro made me calm down to read each line over and be sure I'm getting the full message. Lol.

As for the graphics, that's SOMETHING! Haha. Now that I'm thinking of it, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a chameleon in real life, whether living or dead. Weird, right?

Well Done, Strega.

I was actually afraid to post such thing. I don't really want make people sad or scared or melancholic even. But I decided otherwise - becouse I actually believe that there are people out there that think in the same way, or if not - can immerse enough to understand what I am trying to say.

I would love to call what I am writing poetry, but it is far from it. I really want to learn how to write according to the rules of poetry, so that the rhythm of each line matches, with the counting of syllables and so on. But English is my second language, and words appear in my head in both English and Polish. If I were to write what actually appears there, one verse would be in Polish and the next in English. Each language also has its own character, its own 'singing quality'.

Prose is difficult but translatable with the right skills, but poetry is always something different in every language. Sometimes it loses, but sometimes it gains. I hope that what I am writing makes at least a little original sense.

So for now I am writing blank verses, we will see how it will develop in the future :D

I've seen chameleon in real life one. One of my work college had a pair. Teeny tine creatures. I just loved them!
But I have so many pictures of those(way more alive, just to clarify things ;)!) i could draw one every day of the year, and still not use all those pictures :D

Thank you for your visit, and for a twitt about my work @kenechukwu97!

Amazing, Strega. It's interesting to read the things you write and I like how you articulated your thoughts and embedded that in the post. I also like the alignment that is visible in the text and the graphics.

Well Done.

I am on aesthetic freak side, not gonna lie :D It takes plenty of time for me to do a post - I am changing resolution of the pictures so they will work smoothly, I started to add watermark(better safe than sorry :D), and I designed feather and diamond ornaments some time ago to make my post look nicer :D Pure vanity!

There is indeed no end to human desires, the painful thing about it is, sometimes or should I say most times, they end up leaving us with pains, because most of them will never see the light of day, hmm! nothing is as dark as being in that condition.

Problems don't have ends as well, the little time we have should be spent doing what makes us happy, laugh as hard as you can we you find an occasion, visit decent places that put smiles on your face, watch skits that causes humour, life is short and we don't have to spent all of it in our sorrows.. 😁

Your drawing is excellent, I love every bit of it. I never liked chameleon before but your work made me admire it today.

Desire as illusory and depraving as it can be - it is the perfect breeding ground for art. In real life it causes far more problems than in books or films :))))

Yep! That's life. Sometimes there is nothing we can do apart try our best not to fall into pieces :D
Use up our time the best we can seem to be always good advise :)

Wow.... for the few times I have come across your posts, you have been doing greatly with your art and drawing. This wows me much with how you drew that chameleon making it look so real. Why not put it out for people to appreciate the work of art from you? This is amazing.

Even your poem, I read line by line and even read all over again so as to be sure of understanding every bit of it. That was an outstanding poem about life and us. Sometimes, we need some detachment and not completely, to relief ourselves.

To be fair, after art academy graduation - I haven't work on my skills much. What I did - I would just put my sketchbooks in the drawer, and never bother to look a them again.

It made me very sad and depressed that I couldn't devote more time to my passions because I had to work professionally to pay the bills. However, it was worth working hard so that I could now have a little more time to do what I love. I am happy to share what I do with people who can appreciate the time I put into it.

The result is still far from what I would like to achieve - but I enjoy the process, I enjoy learning and, above all, I enjoy the fact that others like what I do:)

Someday, the result will be worth something. In the meantime, enjoy the process. It's hard though trying to focus on what you enjoy and love doing but just because we want to survive and meet our daily needs, we pend them down while channeling our time on jobs to pay the bills... I hope you find time for your passion alongside your professional job. I wish you all the best 👍

Often there are not enough hours in the day, it's true, but that doesn't mean I don't have to try. The more I draw - theoretically - I will be able to do it faster. In a way, the fact that I have to work professionally gives me a boost to develop my creative skills, to get better at it and faster :D Is that make any sense??

Laughing despair straight in the face is not the easiest thing to do and is dangerously close to madness.

When I laugh so much in my anger and frustration, I always think, ugh, I'm getting insane.

Dark humor is just humor to me when it's kind of a distant thing I can't relate to it but I do know about it. We don't have a chameleon here so, what you draw is special even if it's a mummified one. 🤭

There's a lot to process in this one, that is for sure. 😅

You're definitely on point with what you said about humor being a tool to cope with despair and difficult situations. Sometimes laughter is the only thing to do because if you don't laugh, you'll cry.

The tea stain is * perfect *, what a nice touch for this subject. You are a dark (deep?) soul, and I mean that in the kindest way.

Enjoyable post, as usual, Strega! : )

You're definitely on point with what you said about humor being a tool to cope with despair and difficult situations. Sometimes laughter is the only thing to do because if you don't laugh, you'll cry.

I am glad you share my view on this. It is odd that laughter is so close to despair, right??

The tea stain is * perfect *, what a nice touch for this subject. You are a dark (deep?) soul, and I mean that in the kindest way.

I was hoping it will give old parchment kind of vibes:) I am glad it was noticeable by viewers:) I yeah, am dark soul, I see this as a greater complement I could get:) My primary school teacher once said that I am 'old soul', I like sound of this too:)

Only a true anatomy lover could tackle the subjects you depict 😅. Always impressive.

Yes, laughter can be the best medicine, and like most medicine it can be bitter at times! Laughter is also like social currency, in some ways. A lot can be communicated with a laugh.

An "old soul"...I didn't want to call you old 😆 lol, so I chose "dark" instead. So!

I was at the supermarket the other day. I was getting milk. I was blocking a lady from getting milk. "Sorry," I mumbled, getting out of the way. In my mind "I have a disability", sprung to mind as an appropriate response.

Instead, I internalised it.

When I got to the checkout, I told the checkout lady, who I've seen many times before. "She may have thought I was a lunatic had I said that," I concluded the anecdote.

"Perhaps she was a mental health professional?"

"Perhaps you, are a mental health professional?" She smiled.

"No, but my husband is,"

"Oh wonderful," I cut her off, "Does he have one of those jackets with the straps and buckles for me?"

I try to be "proper", but often fail. Failure is just good comedy leaving the body.

I too try to be proper, but to be fair - if my internal dialogs have some sort of weight or volume - I would be size of a planet :D

Dark humour, dark romance, dark chocolate. And I'm also dark in complexion so that pretty much completes the ensemble. Hehe. I love many things dark and you're right about the fact that there's no need to drown in your sorrows when you can simply joke them away. Cool stuff I tell you.

I wanna ask though, do you actually know how the skeletal system of chameleons are or you drew them from somewhere. Either way, my admiration and respect for you has skyrocketed beyond belief. I'm sure you hear it all the time but I'm saying it again because it's true and because I can, hehe. You're amazing.💖

So nice to see you here @jhymi!
Dark humour, dark romance, dark chocolate. I would want to get rid of the romance part, but then I thought about classic literature, like Tolstoy' 'Anna Karenina', that end tragically... Yeah i can work with that:)

I wanna ask though, do you actually know how the skeletal system of chameleons are or you drew them from somewhere.

Unfortunately there are no chameleon where I live - apart from zoo, and I don't like places like that. I found picture that had good enough resolution to work with it. If I had better one - it could have even more details:) But it would took another couple of hours to complete the drawing... and my time is limited as such.

Thank you, and really appreciate your comment!

Cool! I wish I could draw the way you do. Not only do I lack the drawing materials but I also lack the time to learn more of it. I can only draw basic things and doodles unlike you who seem to be on the pro level.

The words you expressed were deeply felt and creative at the same time. It invokes in me not only the image of introversion but also the longing for isolation for peace.

Welcome to my blog @idlemind! I like your doodles! Especially one with heart and puppet:)

Any manual skill takes time. I think that talent without constant practice is of no use. Even though I studied at art in school, I spent all my evenings perfecting my craft, sacrificing many other things, such as socialising. So there is always something for something.

Even today, I sacrifice many other things to be able to spend time with a paper and pencil. I give up reading books in favour of audiobooks to enjoy books at lest little. I hardly ever watch films, TV series or even the news, because they distract me from drawing too much.

So, in a way, art isolates me from the world :D Nevertheless, it give something back, and that's why it will always be a priority for me.

@strega.azure I agree that passion needs sacrifices. I badly want to improve my drawing skills since was a child, but I didn't have the means then. Now that I have the resources to buy art materials, I don't have the time. I'm trying to make time for it though. My day job consumes most of my time, but lately, feeling burned out, I see to it that I'll allot time for writing and drawing.

Thank you for appreciating my drawing. 😊

I love your art work, how you took picture of every step.

About your piece, I found the part you spoke about desire and attachment. Most times I think we desire so many things more like a fairytale life and lots more and then get attached quickly to anyone who shows us a bit of it.

About the Chameleon I found it intriguing cause of how fast it is in adapting to its surrounding (camouflage)☺️

I can't say that I personally agree with everything you have said, though I may be able to try and find some common ground perhaps? Life can indeed be harsh. I know that first hand.. well especially as a result of anything which mankind as a whole touches.

My coping mechanism, however, is my faith. Perhaps one of the more 'touchy' subjects, other than politics. But it gets me through the worst of it. I'm no stranger to loneliness either. I find comfort in the quiet of my soul. I find peace in my own tears, for I know I am alive.

p.s. I adore chameleons along with nature as a whole. Though I prefer seeing living creatures, you are clearly talented in your sketches. Peace. #dreemerforlife

I wouldn't call this subject 'touchy', though. Stuff are what people make them. If they get angry or weird about certain subjects - then subjects become taboo and make others uncomfortable.

I would love to think we are in the safe space to encourage honesty:) Plus I am always up for healthy debate:)

Chameleons are yous lovely, really sad I don't have opportunity to see them in the wild. I have to be happy with pictures on the internet :D

Hi mate,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think it's important for people to share their views in an honest manner.. that way we can get to share our own with them. Both sides have the opportunity to gain greater insight, where they are of course free to make up their own minds.

On the note of Chameleons.. I live in Cape Town, and you can still find them in local vegetation here. They are truly adorable! Just saw that National Geographic has a vid on YouTube on the amazing little creatures :)

This hit different to me! More like a moment of depression and moments of realization combined to form inspirations that one can feel in the soul! A deep reflection, thoughtful and insightful content.

With this form of writing you can tear up an individual on their knees, this pattern would make one read to the end because it captivates one's heart. How beautiful!

I haven't even mentioned the beauty and top-notch creativity that is embedded in these drawings. This could be a huge portrait hanging out for sale in an exhibition. You have a remarkable and fascinating skill I must confess to that and I implore you to make it much more extraordinary and unique💙.

Being pissed about the news is one thing we share in common, it ruins my mood to be reminded about everything going on in the world. The problems are there but I choose to turn a blind eye and deaf ears for my well-being.

I concentrate more on influencing my environment than doing things that are beyond my capabilities.

The power of laughter can't be underestimated and that's one of the reasons why I find Hive as a home. I engage and interact with people who one way or the other put a smile on my face from time to time.

Your artwork, I am not in a position to rate your artwork because how you achieved this is still very confusing. I haven't met someone this extraordinary in a long time.

Basically, getting angry over things or situations over which we have no control - is actually pointless. However, we are creatures of flesh and blood and our mirror neurons often interfere with our clarity of vision.

But luckily - then laughter comes to the rescue:)

I like the first part in which you talked about laughter being a weapon against life hardships, while I don't disagree, I don't want to encourage it, however, because as you said, it's dangerously close to madness.

I thought the post would be about that, but "Oh, art!!" I love the illustration! ...I draw too, but I don't (and can't yet) go into this much detail.

Using humour to tame the misfortunes that happen to us and will befall us despite our best intentions.

This speaks volume of how we really should love our life.
Most times, we really don't need to take happenings in life all serious but just rather need to laugh over the ones we can and go ahead.

I was probably more surprised by the artwork than the words but I probably came alive reading the part about using dark humor to cover life's misfortunes.
As humans we're deemed to be social creatures, but sometimes I just want to scream at the world for some peace and quiet from the many requirements of being human. The world should understand that sometimes, I just wanna be left alone.

0

I can totally relate with what you are saying. But unfortunately 'world' isn't some sort of amalgamate that you can cut yourself off it. It is interconnected with all our cells, all our memories, and more often than not - very reason of our misfortunes. So sadly - eventually you have to go out from you lair, and face it.

I hope with smile and witty humour up your sleeve:)
