If I had a heart... or three! || Hive Power Up Day:)

If I had a heart it would beat louder than a rolling avalanche
If I had a voice - it would roar like a typhoon
If I had a soul - it would be as unmovable as a mountain

Three hearts

Each with a different assigned task, each beating independently, each claiming to be the most important.

Nine minds

Each eye looks in a different direction, each face has a different grimace, each thinks it is the smartest.

Blue blood

Red is treacherous, red attracts prying eyes. I choose the deep blue of the ocean depths.

3 hearts, 9 brains and blood like blue ink

The oceans are filled to the brim with creatures that inspire fear in some and awe in others. Or both at the same time. If you're looking for aliens on earth - my bet is on the oceans. Given how little we still know about the deep - there is still a chance that we will find something there that goes beyond our mammalian brains.

In fact, it happens regularly - like the recently filmed giant squid in Japan, January this year by two divers Yosuke Tanaka and Miki Tanaka. Seeing something like this not only makes the hair on your head stand on end, but it's easy to conclude where stories about the mythical kraken, handed down from generation to generation, or Lovecraft's fantastic ideas of monsters - like Cthulhu - come from.

Originally, I wanted to focus only on the rectangular pupil and the eye of the octopus. But, as I looked through the pictures of these proud, fascinating creatures - I came to the conclusion that the tentacles are what actually define these extraordinary creatures. They use them to explore the world around them, and remarkably - the suction cups can attach to absolutely anything but their own bodies.

These inspiring cephalopods will amaze more than just the layman. Scientists have been observing their behaviour for many years and new facts keep coming out. Not only are they the most intelligent invertebrates, but in this race they even outstrip mammals such as - rats or the most intelligent birds - ravens. With their camouflage abilities - they can not only change their volume, but also the texture and colour of their skin. These abilities make them not only very adaptable animals - but also very difficult to observe.

About the drawing

I got a bit nostalgic for black paper:) I started working with 'Bambino' crayons but they looked very pale on a black background, so I decided to change to watercolour crayons in wooden frames. In a way, this change forced me to pay attention to details, so the drawing itself took me a good while :) Nevertheless - I really liked working with colour on a black background, I think the black compliments the vibrant, rich colours:)

As always - I am counting on your comments. Do you find octopuses fascinating or scary?

This turned out awesome! The black background is perfect, just like the depths of the ocean... or space. The octopus and its cousins are fascinating, to say the least. They seem way more alien than "terrestrial."

Oh yeah. Space! Considering how different they are from any other species, they definitely have 'alien quality' about them:)

I was really fun for drawing, but I haven't realized it will take me day to finish it :D

Thank you for popping by!

It has been busy month @hivebuzz! I was hoping to get badge for 'author of the week' (24th- 30 of July), but I must have done something wrong. The 'counter' on hivebuzme was working was working ok till Sunday, and Monday went 'zero' but achievement wasn't unblocked.
I really don't know what I did wrong:(

Fabulous! You did have a great month last month. You should be proud of your efforts. Your art and insightful commentary will continue to draw support the longer you are here and the more people get to know your work. Love creatures of the deep. So fascinating. I used to dive but never came across a giant octopus. Sharks check Bass check turtles check manta rays check... and a whole host of other amazing creatures and fish... but no giant octopus - I think that might have freaked me out !LOLZ if one had approached me!!! Gorgeous drawings. Love the colour on black. I think it works perfectly as a representation of the depths of the ocean 💗!LUV !PIZZA

Thank you very much @samsmith1971! It has been really good month for me. I had little bit more time on my hands, and I decided used this time for hive :) This month will not look like this, that's for sure :D

I used to dive but never came across a giant octopus.

I have never had the opportunity to dive, it is my big dreem:)

Sharks check Bass check turtles check manta rays check...

Wow!!! That's fantastic! Did you pat the shark??

I am so envious right now! I love all those creatures! On my list for drawing, that's for sure! Encounter with octopus could be even dangerous as far as I know, but they prefer to hide anyway:)

I think it works perfectly as a representation of the depths of the ocean

I just wanted to be sure that all attention is focused on the octopus. Next time I will try to work more on the 'outpouring the silhouette from the darkness'- to make the whole thing even more mysterious:)

I believe Octopuses are the real aliens. Because they fit the description. Lol. Big head, tentacles and a scary looking face. I am really scared of them. When I watch them on TV, I’m awed. But take me to one in real life? I’ll faint. It’s a promise.

I have read about mythical creatures of the sea. Among many other things. Many believe that Leviathan sleeps at the bottom of the sea. A monster the two times the size of Earth. Hehehehe.

I believe that many other creatures lay down in the sea. Lord. I don’t think many of us will eat sushi anymore when we see the things that crawl there. Lol.

I love your drawing. I just love the heart and soul in it. This is not something I see everyday. This is food to my eyes.

100% I would add oddly shaped pupils too :D

I really like the Leviathan story! Every other sea monster-story kind of sprouted from this one:)

So I will make sure to keep them(drawings) coming. I don't want you to starve!

I love the painting...the painting of the octopus on the black background literally brought it to life..
It feels like you are looking at a life octopus.

A perfect description of an octopus! The stages of the drawings is so magnificent and then the finishing part gave it its luxury! Splendid!
