COIN REVEAL: 1oz .999 Silver 1999 Australian Kookaburra with Sovereign Privy
Today's coin reveal post features the 1oz .999 Silver 1999 Australian Kookaburra with the Bi-metal Sovereign Privy struck by the Perth Mint.
This coin has the same design as the bullion version of the 1999 Australian Kookaburra coin, the point of difference with this coin is that it has a Privy Mark to the left of the kookaburras. The Privy Mark features the bi-metal sovereign gilded in .999 gold.
The year 1999 marked the 100th anniversary of the opening of The Perth Mint in 1899. The special privy mark design features a gold insert of Pistrucci's original St George and the Dragon design, complete with a 'P100' mintmark where the date normally appears.
The Perth Mint Centenary Sovereign was released on 20 June 1999 to celebrate the 100th anniversary. The specialty sovereign has an outer silver border with the inscription "The Perth Mint Centenary Sovereign 1899 - 1999".
1. Coin Story
This kookaburra coin and the specialty sovereign coin honour the historic role of the sovereign that was used throughout the British Empire and the importance of gold and silver in the Perth Mint's history.
A sovereign coin is still one item that eludes my gold coin collection. There is no particular reason why I do not have a sovereign in my collection, it just has not been the core focus of my buying and selling strategy. I have been very tempted a number of times when I have seen well priced sovereigns listed for sale. I do plan to own one in the future and I will write about it when that day comes around.
2. Coin Packaging
These coins are packaged in individual sealed plastic capsules. Each coin is protected by the metal green clam shell case. On the outside of the clam shell case is the Perth Mint logo in silver print.
3. Coin Details
a. Mintage
The mintage of this coin was 5,000 coins. Each of the coins were issued as legal tender under the authority of the Australian Government with the denomination of $1 (Australian).

The centenary sovereign privy mark is so cool!!!!
I know it is, my mission now is to track down the actual centenary sovereign coin to see if I can purchase it for a reasonable price.

There is no doubt that the centenary sovereign and all sovereigns laid the economic foundation of the Commonwealth and the capital fueling growth and commerce from colonies into countries of their own.
