Coeurl x Grum: RNG Nightmare
Coeurl Lurker is currently the prized chase card for the new Riftwatchers expansion. I've tried to have a go at it and rented it out for my run into the silver and gold league this season. My experience with it so far is a hit or miss. There are times where the evasion instances are off the charts while there are some questionable events as well where the RNG is not in my favor. I'll be detailing here the worst match from these RNG nightmares.
Let's first have a look at Coeurl Lurker's stats and abilities. It is a legendary neutral monster that is also considered a "giant" due to its 11 mana cost.
Its main traits are the high health, attack, and evasion rate. When it gains the Phase ability, it then has the chance to dodge all attack types, melee, ranged, and magic.
In order to compensate for Coeurl Lurker's overpowered stats and abilities, it was balanced by having a downside where its speed stat is a flat four across all levels.
This is the reason why Skargore was a popular combo piece for Coeurl Lurker in the current meta. Skargore gives Coeurl Lurker the Enrage ability, boosting both melee attack and speed when it is damaged. Enrage is also ideal on Coeurl since it has a high starting health which means it can sustain the initial damage that will activate Enrage and have more to spare for succeeding attacks that do hit.
Here comes my highlighted match and the main reason why I made this post. This a one-on-one battle between Coeurl Lurker and Grum Flameblade. I used Skargore as my summoner while the enemy had Tarsa. Tarsa boosts the life and melee damage by one point but does not affect Grum's chance to successfully deliver an attack.
Grum is a very strong melee monster with the downside of having the lowest speed. Coeurl Lurker on the other hand already has a huge speed advantage combined with the Dodge ability.
Grum lands his first attack triggering Lurker's Enrage. It now has 6 attack, 6 speed combined and the Dodge.
Despite Lurker's very high evasion rate, Grum once again manages to land an attack, taking its health down to one.
By some incredible luck, Grum's attack pushed through once again, defeating Coeurl Lurker. The RNG is not working on my favor this time. Definitely one of the worst matches of my Splinterlands career. 😅 Here's the link to the battle.
On the bright side, here's a battle link where Coeurl Lurker's evasion works well.

One of the most creative posts I've seen from splinterlands.
