Doctor Scavo Saves The Day

Healed Out is one of those rule sets that's hard for me to have a workaround since having some sort of healing is an essential strategy for most of my lineups. I feel like not having the ability to heal my units leaves them very vulnerable.

So let's check out first what the Healed Out rule set is.

So Healed Out basically disables all three forms of healing in the game, Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage. It's interesting to note that life leech still works on this rule set. But life leech is a little tricky to work a strategy on and the life it gains is not on par with the traditional healing. The only life leech monster that I have high success with is Runemancer Kye, which I had an article already a few weeks ago.

So that leaves me with another strategy, one that has the same amount of restoration as that of traditional healing. That ability is Repair. And the Life Splinter happens to have the only summoner that provides Repair, Chanseus the Great.

The advantage of having Chanseus is that the Repair ability will not go away for the rest of the match since it is embedded in the summoner. And there is currently no monster ability that can disrupt summoner abilities.

And for additional Repair on the field, I selected Scavo Hireling. Scavo is a versatile support monster because it has a low mana cost and the Camouflage ability when it hits level six makes it hard to get rid of.

And for the focus of all these Repair triggers, we have Imperial Knight. The Void Armor makes sure that all damage types are covered. He also has a high armor which is enough to absorb a few attacks.

Shared Battle

So let's see this strategy in an actual battle. This is a 34-mana match with Healed Out and Stampede rule sets. You can check the full match here. My core strategy here is to use Imperial Knight as the main tank while being supported by Scavo Hireling and Chanseus the Great's Repair abilities. I also made sure to be superior in terms of speed by having Time Mage and Clockwork Aide in the backline.

It was tempting to go all out and buff my units with very high armor but that leaves me little room on the offensive side. Instead, I utilized Aves Sturgis' Weapons Traning ability and gave magic damage to Scavo Hireling and Clockwork Aide.

My opponent on the other hand prepared a melee and range-intensive lineup. And seeing how vulnerable my backline is with no armor, I would have totally been decimated if it was a Super Sneak rule set.

Since I had the advantage with speed, my magic-wielding backline monsters made short work of the Antoid Platoon. But the next-in-line monster was a tougher opponent, Tusk the Wide, with the Void ability. Meanwhile, the Martyr triggers for Venari Marksrat, giving Imperial Knight higher stats.

As expected, Tusk the Wide proved to be a formidable tank. I lost my Time Mage due to Tenyii Striker's Sneak attack and my Imperial Knight was repeatedly stripped off his armor due to taking heavy damage. It's a good thing that he was buffed early on with Martyr and now has high health to fall back on should the damage exceed the Repair's capabilities.

Once the opponent lost its Tusk the Wide, the remaining damage output coming from the enemy side proved lacking when in comes to totally destroying my Imperial Knight. He did got down to eight health points. But thanks to the two instances of Repair, he was able to sustain his role as tank until the end of the battle.

I actually enjoy Healed Out! 😄
Especially meeting some of the big cards. Many times I "counter" with a leech.
