(ENG/ESP) 🌈👗👚✨ Ladies of Hive Community Contest #295: Using clothing as a means of expression / Usando la ropa como medio de expresión 🌈👗👚✨

ENGLISH CONTENT

Hello everyone in this community! Today I decided to do some digital drawing for a while. This is really important to me, as I didn't want to lose the habit of doing something creative every day, not to mention it's a great way to release emotions and thoughts. Yesterday I was able to finish a traditional drawing I had started weeks ago, and even though I find it hard to sit down and draw digitally, today I was able to work on a drawing for a while without it feeling tedious. To end the day, I decided to work on my entry for the contest, since one of the questions caught my eye and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to participate... again, haha.

🌈👗👚✨ Are you a fashion enthusiast? Do you follow trends, or do you simply wear what you like and what makes you feel comfortable? 🌈👗👚✨

Honestly, I've never really followed "fashion." In fact, the times I've worn a trendy item of clothing or accessory have been by chance, or because I received it as a gift and ended up using it. And this isn't something recent; it's been the case for as long as I can remember. Perhaps it's due to my habit of wearing clothes until they no longer fit or were ruined, haha. But when your body type doesn't change much over the years, you can wear the same blouse for ten years or more; I'm not exaggerating, I have some shirts I bought when I started university that still fit me today.

But what is my style? Or what do I define as "what I'm going to wear"? Well... I suppose it depends on various factors. For example, there was a time when I was obsessed with the color green—I mean, I still am, it's my favorite color—but the point is that I ended up buying all my clothes in that color, even a pair of shoes. That led me to wear blouses of only that color for a while. Then, I wanted to add other colors, not because I no longer liked green, but because I felt I wanted to give other colors a chance too.

1000415380.jpg1000393859.jpg1000428399.jpg

I think you could say I wear what catches my eye or what makes me feel comfortable... the problem is that often, that's not "comfortable" in other people's eyes, haha. Let me explain: in Japan, there's a style of dress called Decora, which consists of wearing colorful clothes with lots of accessories—the more, the better—without worrying about looking overdone. I love that style, and even though I don't wear it every day, I try to put together outfits that make me feel Decora enough, not so much for the style itself, but because I feel like the colors make me happy.

Of course, I've gotten all sorts of comments on the street, like from my mom, who used to ask me a lot, "Are you going out dressed like that?" until she just stopped. The day I realized that other people's negative comments about my outfits didn't bother me at all, I understood that if I liked them, that's what mattered. And it's been that way ever since. After all, other people don't buy my clothes; I make them myself, and sometimes I even make them myself. So there's nothing better than wearing something you made with love.

If it were up to me, I'd dress up every time I went out, but thinking about the heat on the subway and the lack of time to get ready makes me save that for specific occasions, like the flea markets or bazaars I've been attending these past few months. There, I take the opportunity to wear the outfits I'd like to wear every day, and my clothes catch the attention of the other customers—that's a bonus! Haha.

1000423287.jpg1000441430.jpg1000430739.jpg

On the other hand, there's a "dynamic" I used to love when getting dressed, but haven't done in a while: putting together an outfit inspired by a cartoon character. If there was a character I liked, I'd look for clothes in their colors. Now that I'm stuck at home, I could try putting together outfits like that and see what happens.

I think that if we think about how what we wear makes us feel, it will be so much better when we wear it, and those who see us will be able to find that harmony... if they're perceptive enough, of course, haha, because there's nothing more satisfying than when, amidst a sea of frowns or mocking giggles, someone gathers the courage to approach you and say, "Hi! I love your outfit!" and then you can sincerely and without hesitation reply, "Thanks, me too!" 🌈

✨ Thank you so much for visiting my post. I hope you found it interesting ✨

✨ Muchas gracias por haber visitado mi publicación. Espero que les haya parecido interesante ✨

Zoe, I like that you have long embraced the kind of fashion that feels true to you, even though it still brings some heavy stares and negative comments your way. I also like that your talent of drawing is proof that we all carry different strengths and creativity, regardless of how we appear, and we can choose to see people beyond what we deem conventional.

I like your expressive style of writing too. You rock!🥰

From a young age, I was subjected to the clothes my mother chose for me, which, while cute, often didn't make me feel comfortable. So I'm glad I've finally found a "style" that makes me happy and doesn't let other people's opinions affect me (which is surprising considering I was a very shy and withdrawn girl 🤔). I believe that as long as we're true to ourselves and respect others, everything else falls into place 😌 Oh! 😳 I'm so glad you like my writing style! Knowing that motivates me to keep expressing myself the way I do, so thank you for letting me know 😌 Also, thank you so much for reading my post and for giving me your feedback! 😉💚

Oh this is so true. I have a shirt that's been with me going 8 years now when I started my off in my new job. And it's still classy and fits too. Lol.

Honestly, I can relate with the body type Some call me "every year young." !LOLZ

In all, I wear for comfort and what fits.

Hahaha! Especially when it's a garment you love! There are shirts, shorts, or dresses that I adore so much that I suffer when the fabric rots, because at that point, the sewing can't fix anything when they tear, haha. With today's consumerism of clothing, it's very rare to find those of us who still cling to "old clothes," although the good thing is that "vintage" is in fashion, so we can continue wearing our favorite outdated pieces and say it's "retro," haha. Something else I love is altering clothes when I get bored with them; that way, I don't get rid of them and I can keep wearing them. But in the end, the important thing is, as you say, that you feel good and comfortable wearing it. 😌 Thank you so much for reading my post and for your comment!🤗💚

So true. 🤣 There's this simple but beautiful gown that I have been wearing for a few years now. It's torn beyond patching under the armpit. I just folded it and kept in a bag. Can't bring myself to trash it. 😂😂

Oh... If the dress is beyond repair but has sentimental value, you did well to keep it. Although, if the fabric is still usable, you could transform it into something else, like a handbag 👀

I've been in Black far too long,
I'm slowly adding color to my style.
At my job, I was encouraged to wear a pink outfit to participate in the Breast Cancer awareness. I eventually got a pink outfit with big black pokkadots under a black sweater.
My old habits are hard to break.

Hahaha, the same thing happened to me when I was only wearing green! I felt super weird wearing other colors. While there are still colors I don't feel comfortable in (like red), sometimes I dare to wear them because a certain garment or combination makes me want to break out of my usual routine... haha, even if you dared to wear a little pink, that's great! 😌 Thank you so much for visiting my post and for giving me your opinion! 😉💚

On Cancer awareness day.
And when everyone else wears pink.
I'll still wear the black lipstick and nail polish. 👗
