La película está ambientada en los años 60, cuando era bastante habitual que las familias tuviesen como trabajadoras del hogar a mujeres de color, pero, a pesar de que la esclavitud ya ha sido abolida para ésta época, la misma continua siendo mental, dado que el pensar de la sociedad, provoca limitaciones en la vida de personas que son tratadas de mal modo simplemente por el tono de su piel. Aún así, esta pila de maltratos, motivados por un salario mal pagado, son ocultados por estas mujeres para poder vivir sus vidas tranquilas y poder sacar adelante a su familia en una sociedad que insiste en hacerles recordar que sus derechos son pisoteados día tras día.

The film is set in the 60s, when it was quite common for families to have women of color as domestic workers, but, despite the fact that slavery has already been abolished by this time, it continues to be mental, since the thinking of society causes limitations in the lives of people who are treated badly simply because of the tone of their skin. Even so, this pile of mistreatment, motivated by a poorly paid salary, is hidden by these women in order to live their peaceful lives and be able to support their families in a society that insists on reminding them that their rights are trampled on day after day.

Eugenia Phelan, más conocida como Skeeter es una joven determinada que fue criada por una de estas mujeres trabajadoras y por el enorme cariño que le tiene a su nana, mantiene un respeto hacia el trabajo que estas realizan, ya que su propia madre, se mantuvo distante o al menos, no le dio las mismas atenciones que su nana. Luego de un tiempo en el que Skeeter tuvo que alejarse de casa por cuestiones de estudio, regresa con los auges propios de quién comienza a desempeñar su carrera... pero, sus sueños se ven atravesados por un camino lleno de espinas, al encontrarse con los prejuicios de una sociedad machista, en donde, la subestiman por el hecho de ser mujer. Aún así, ella se mantiene firma en su aspiración de convertirse en una buena escritora. A esto se le suma la repentina ida de su querida nana, durante el tiempo que ella estuvo fuera, una situación que no la deja dormir, pues es incapaz de creer que alguien a quien quería tanto, se fuera así de su vida, pues el vínculo que tiene con ella es bastante profundo.

After a time in which Skeeter had to leave home for study reasons, she returns with the booms typical of someone who begins her career... but her dreams are crossed by a path full of thorns, when she meets the prejudices of a macho society, where they underestimate her for being a woman. Still, she remains firm in her aspiration to become a good writer. To this is added the sudden departure of her dear nana, during the time she was away, a situation that does not let her sleep, because she is unable to believe that someone she loved so much, left her life like that, because the The bond he has with her is quite deep.

Por otro lado, tenemos a Aibileen Clark una trabajadora doméstica que aparte de encargarse de las labores del hogar, cuida a la hija de sus empleadores. De una manera acogedora, la mujer atiende y cría a la niña, quien desarrolla por ella un enorme apego, debido a las muestras de cariño. Esta bebé no es la primera a la que estuvo a su cuidado y con gran dolor, la mujer recuerda como es el proceso de criar y despegarse de aquellos niños, pero lo que más le pesa es la perdida de su propio hijo, quien tuvo una muerte injusta trabajando para personas blancas a las cuales no les importó su deceso. Con ese dolor a cuesta, la mujer trata de seguir adelante, desempeñando su trabajo, pero a la par, aguantando las injusticias y maltratos por parte de la gente a las que les trabaja, maltratos que son ocultados bajo "buenas acciones".

On the other hand, we have Aibileen Clark a domestic worker who, apart from taking care of the housework, takes care of her employers' daughter. In a welcoming way, the woman cares for and raises the girl, who develops an enormous attachment to her, due to her displays of affection. This baby is not the first she was in her care and with great pain, the woman remembers what the process of raising and detaching from those children is like, but what weighs her down the most is the loss of her own son, who had a wrongful death working for white people who didn't care about his death. With that pain on her back, the woman tries to move on, doing her job, but at the same time, she puts up with the injustices and mistreatment by the people she works for, mistreatment that is hidden under "good deeds". ".

La mejor amiga de Aibileen, es la que la ayuda a sobrellevar un poco el trabajo diario. Minny Jackson es una mujer de carácter fuerte, con una habilidad nata para la cocina. Las vidas de estas mujeres se unirán cuando Skeeter, quien recibe constantemente ayuda de Aibileen para sus escritos, comienza a relatarle algunos hechos de su vida. Pero, hay un problema, la editora de Skeeter le comunica que el relato de una sola mujer no basta y que si consigue muchos más, su material, saldrá a la luz. The lives of these women will come together when Skeeter, who constantly receives help from Aibileen for her writing, begins to tell her some facts of her life. The young woman is attracted by the stories of these women who are basically the pillar of all those homes in which they work, so she decides to convince Abileen to let her write her experiences to be published later. But, there is a problem, Skeeter's editor tells her that the story of a single woman is not enough and that if she gets many more, her material will come to light. This, instead of the girl, motivates her to try to obtain the testimony of more women and that is how, when secrets that have been kept for years, are being revealed, under the anonymity of the domestic workers, even getting to know the real reason why her nana left her home.

Me pareció una película bastante interesante. Apartando el hecho de si están bien o mal relatadas las vivencia de estas mujeres (dado que no es una película 100 por ciento histórica, es más como una especie de novela), recalco el siguiente punto que te hace comprender el filme: Lo negativo que nos sucede en la vida, en ocasiones puede llegar a hacernos mucho más daño cuando nos lo guardamos y nos mantenemos en silencio, muchas veces hablar puede ser la solución, pudiendo encontrar ayuda en personas afines así como el apoyo necesario para poder salir de una emoción fuerte que nos pueda haber mantenido anclados hasta por años enteros. Por eso, muchos de los males se generan por guardarse las cosas, ya sean palabras o sentimientos. Esa pequeña reflexión, fue la que me vino a la mente luego de ver la película. No hay nada como soltar aquello que nos aqueja. Si alguien necesita desahogarte contigo, por favor, escuchalo, podría ser bueno para esa persona.

I thought it was quite an interesting movie. Leaving aside the fact of whether the experiences of these women are well or poorly reported (given that it is not a 100 percent historical film, it is more like a kind of novel), I emphasize the following point that makes you understand the film: The negative that it happens to us in life, sometimes it can do us much more harm when we keep it to ourselves and remain silent, many times talking can be the solution, being able to find help in like-minded people as well as the necessary support to be able to get out of an emotion strong that could have kept us anchored even for whole years. For this reason, many of the evils are generated by keeping things, whether they are words or feelings. That little reflection was what came to mind after watching the movie. There is nothing like letting go of what ails us. If someone needs to vent to you, please listen to them, it might be good for that person.
