Karwa Chauth is a very major hindu festival and is mostly observed in the northern side of the country.

The word “Karva” means an earthen pot of water and the word chauth means fourth. It signifies that Karva Chauth falls on the fourth day after poornima (full moon), in the month of Kartik, according to the Hindu calendar.

This festival signifies and celebrates the bond of love between married or would be couples. As a part of the tradition, women fast for their spouses, no food, no water the entire day. In the evening, when the moon rises, women pray to the moon for the long life of their spouses and can have food and water after that.

It begins with a small early morning prayer and is usually followed by “Sargi” - a food platter containing dry fruits, parathas, curry and coconut water. Women consume Sargi after their bath as it is believed to be a healthy meal that allows them to prepare for the day’s fasting. It keeps them energetic and allows them to stay without food or water for the entire day.
Women dress up well in beautiful attires, bangles and jewellery, sindoor and also apply henna on their hands.

It's a very beautiful tradition, I personally love it. But this time, I could not do all the rituals properly because my darling son got really cranky, God knows why and my house help was also on leave since she was fasting too. So managing Raag the entire day along with the fast was very tough. I could barely get some henna on my hands, that too I did it on my own after making him sleep at night. In the morning, when I woke up at 5 for Sargi, he woke up along with me and ate half of my parantha. I could not eat my food properly because he was around and it was tough for me to manage him and cook for myself.

In the evening when I was supposed to dress up for the pooja, he would not leave me at all. So I did the pooja with him in my lap, feeding him banana and listened to the traditional story on youtube. I could not dress at all, no clicks, nothing.

To add to it, there was no moon this time on that day because of heavy rain. So the tradition of completing the fast after watching the moon could also not be done properly.

It was a crazy day, but its ok. I'm sure next one is going to be great. Raag will be a bit grown up by then and I hope he will understand that mommy needs some rest on this day.
