My Hive Blog - 30: Bhatghar Dam in Monsoon: A Beautiful Day I’ll Never Forget

There is something very special about the monsoon season in Maharashtra. The first few heavy rains completely change the look of the surroundings. Dry mountains turn green, small waterfalls start appearing everywhere, roads become beautiful, and the smell of wet soil makes you want to go somewhere without any particular reason.
Recently, I felt exactly the same.
I decided to visit Bhatghar Dam near Bhor, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those simple trips that stay in your mind for a long time.
The best part was that Bhatghar Dam was 100% full. Seeing the huge amount of water surrounded by green mountains during the rainy season was an amazing experience. I clicked many photos during my visit because I wanted to capture that beauty and keep those moments with me.
So, I thought, instead of keeping those photos only in my phone gallery, why not share the experience through a blog?
This is my little monsoon story from Bhatghar Dam.
🌧️ The Monsoon Feeling Begins
For me, monsoon is probably the best time to explore the natural beauty around Pune and Bhor.
During summer, the same places can look completely different. But once the rains arrive, everything gets a fresh life. The trees become greener, the hills look alive, and the entire atmosphere becomes cooler and more peaceful.
While going towards Bhatghar, I could already feel that typical monsoon atmosphere.
The sky was cloudy, the roads were surrounded by greenery, and the weather was simply perfect for a short trip. There was no need for any special plan. Sometimes, the best trips are the ones where you just decide to go.
And that is exactly what happened with me.
🏞️ Reaching Bhatghar Dam
As I got closer to Bhatghar Dam, the surroundings became even more beautiful.
The green hills, cloudy sky and fresh rainy atmosphere made the entire journey enjoyable. But the real excitement started when I got my first proper view of the dam.
And what a view it was!
Bhatghar Dam was completely full. 100% full.
The sight of so much water in front of the huge landscape was incredible.
I just stood there for a while and enjoyed the view.
Sometimes, we are so busy taking photos and videos that we forget to actually look at the place with our own eyes. So, I tried to enjoy the moment first and then started taking photographs.
💦 The Beauty of a 100% Full Dam
There is a different kind of beauty in seeing a dam completely filled with rainwater.
The water looked vast, calm and powerful at the same time. Around it, the mountains were covered in fresh green vegetation. The cloudy sky added another layer of beauty to the whole scene.
The combination of blue-grey water, green mountains and dark monsoon clouds looked almost like a natural painting.
I kept clicking photos from different angles because every view felt different.
One moment, the clouds would become darker.
The next moment, the light would change.
Sometimes the wind would move across the water, and sometimes everything would become completely calm.
These small changes made the scenery even more interesting.
📸 Why I Clicked So Many Photos
Whenever I visit a beautiful place, I like taking photographs.
But this time, I felt that the camera was not really enough to capture the complete feeling of the place.
A photograph can show you the water, mountains and sky, but it cannot completely capture the sound of the wind, the smell of the rain, the cool weather or that peaceful feeling of standing in front of such a huge landscape.
Still, I tried my best.
I clicked photos of the dam, the surrounding greenery, the mountains and the beautiful monsoon atmosphere.
Looking at those photos later made me feel like I was back there again.
That is one of the best things about photography.
A photo does not just save a view.
Sometimes, it saves a feeling.
🌿 Bhatghar Looks Completely Different During Monsoon
If you have seen Bhatghar during another season, you should definitely visit it during monsoon once.
The entire surrounding area gets a completely different look.
The hills become green, trees look fresh, and the atmosphere becomes much cooler. Small streams and waterfalls can be seen in many places during the rainy season, depending on the rainfall.
The roads and countryside around Bhor also become extremely scenic.
For someone who loves nature and photography, monsoon is a great time to explore this side of Maharashtra.
You don't always need an expensive destination or a long vacation.
Sometimes, a simple drive to a nearby natural place is enough to refresh your mind.
☁️ The Peace I Felt There
One thing I really enjoyed during my visit was the peaceful atmosphere.
In our daily life, there is always something going on.
Work.
Phone calls.
Messages.
Social media.
Traffic.
Different responsibilities.
We don't always realize how much noise surrounds us until we visit a quiet natural place.
Standing near Bhatghar Dam, looking at the water and mountains, felt different.
For a little while, I wasn't thinking about anything else.
I was simply enjoying the view.
The cool monsoon wind, cloudy sky and greenery around me created a very relaxing atmosphere.
It reminded me that sometimes we should just take a break and spend some time with nature.

📍 Bhatghar Dam Near Bhor – A Perfect Monsoon Getaway
Bhatghar Dam is located in the Bhor region of Maharashtra and is a wonderful place to experience the beauty of the Western Ghats during the rainy season.
If you are around Pune and looking for a monsoon outing, the Bhor side can be a great option.
The journey itself can be enjoyable because the landscape starts becoming greener as you move towards the countryside.
For photographers, bikers, nature lovers and people who simply want to spend some peaceful time away from the city, the monsoon season makes the area especially attractive.
But while enjoying nature, we should also remember to respect it.
Don't throw plastic or bottles around.
Don't leave food waste behind.
Avoid dangerous spots near water.
And most importantly, don't take unnecessary risks just for a photograph or Instagram reel.
A beautiful place remains beautiful only when we take care of it.

❤️ My Favourite Part of the Trip
If I had to choose my favourite part of this trip, it would simply be the moment I saw the completely filled Bhatghar Dam surrounded by green mountains.
There was nothing complicated about it.
I didn't need a luxury resort or a big travel plan.
Just the monsoon, a beautiful location, fresh air and a camera were enough.
Sometimes these simple experiences become the best memories.
And this visit was one of them.

🌧️ Monsoon + Bhatghar = Perfect Combination
For me, Bhatghar Dam during monsoon is a completely different experience.
The full dam, green mountains, cloudy sky and cool weather create a beautiful combination that is difficult to explain in words.
You really have to see it yourself.
If you are planning a monsoon trip around Pune or Bhor, I would definitely recommend keeping Bhatghar and its surrounding areas on your list.
Just choose a safe route, check the weather conditions before travelling, and take enough time to enjoy the journey instead of rushing to the destination.
And yes, don't forget your camera!
Because you are going to find plenty of moments worth capturing.

I came back from Bhatghar with many photographs on my phone, but more importantly, I came back with a peaceful feeling.
Whenever I look at those photos, I remember the cloudy sky, the greenery, the huge water body and that beautiful monsoon atmosphere.
That is why I love travelling to places like this.
You don't always need to travel hundreds of kilometres to find something beautiful.
There is so much natural beauty around us if we simply take some time to explore it.
Bhatghar Dam reminded me of that.
