DISOBEDIENCE, PUNISHMENT, LESSONS.

Cannot fathom what prompted me to write on this particular topic when I could just have chosen another.

But then, I reckon the reason is that, I can't think of any worst punishment I received because I'm my parents favorite child and so, they rarely punish me, inni't? Lol. I'm bragging, of course but this is true.

Meanwhile, I recall one time when I was younger. A teenager still in high school. It was almost approaching time for exams and my mom thought it was best that I put on hold every extracurricular activities and just focus on studying in preparation for the forthcoming examination. She spoke to me a couple of times about it, giving reasons why I should just study in the meantime and get good grades, then catch up on all the fun by the holiday.
Obedient as I am, it was a little difficult.

A certain day after, my parents were asleep in their room and I was studying in the living room. Somewhere between, i got this knawing feeling to go by the field. I knew a game would be on since it was a Sunday evening so I tiptoed out of the house to the field. It was an interesting game to watch and in no time, I was already on the field, playing.

As if I was hinted, i looked up from passing the ball, in the direction of the road, and I saw a figure that looked familiar. It was my mom. I ducked. I hid and only came out when she was out of sight.

Ten minutes later, i was on my way home. I reckoned she had gone to the market and knew it was only minutes before she'd get back. Got back to find my dad still in bed, asleep, and so I got down to my books like I never left.

Wasn't long before my mom returned and she greeted me like nothing happened. I was convinced that she hadn't seen me. And so when she asked me where I had been earlier before she left for the market, I told her that I had gone over to my classmates placee, which was just a few blocks away, to get my book which he lent. She said nothing and left me to my stuff.

Relief washed over me. Moment after, she called me into her room to come get the goodie she had got me. While there, slowly and quietly she asked me where I had gone to earlier. At that question, l felt chills down my spine, my lips quivered and I knew I had been caught.

Long story short, she pounced on me. Like, she whipped me strokes. I know, I know it will seem weird and absurd to a lot of you but then, it's a thing over here, in the country where am from. And telling this any other way than it was/is will take the originality from my story. So yeah, truth is, I got lashed. And she threatened to never let me lick s bell ever again.

I think what infuriated her most was that she had warned me a lot of time to deviate from going by that field since it was evidently swammed by hoodlums and naughty guys and there's only so much she could do to protect her little boy. And, I understood her and I learned my lesson, albeit the hard way.

Anyways, fast forward to a few months later, she was the very one who cooked me a sumptuous meal to go on a journey with. I was to go for the "School Sports Festival" to another state in my country where I'd be representing my resident State in a football competition. It was very heartwarming and left a very sweet taste in my mouth. You know, parents want the best for their kids and never let whatever anger they have at any time stand between that love.
