MY TWO CENTS FOR DATA OPTIMIZATION

As someone who works in a tech firm, the basic requirements for my job are a laptop system(desktop, maybe), my phone, uninterrupted power supply, or at least, a powerbank so I don't run out of battery, good network connection and equally important, data.
That's like the everyday work tool.

Graciously, my job is remote, meaning I could work from the firm's building, from the comfort of my home or any place eles of my choosing.

Evidently, the bulk of my job is online so there's no work without data. The company takes the task of funding that. We're mostly connected over a WiFi network, that's if you're anywhere in the company premises.
Outside of there, I have my pocket mifi to handle my data issues.

Now, data subscription is not cheap. I use the MTN and AIRTEL networks but more of the MTN because i feel like it has a stronger network connection. And for quite a while, I've always used the internet with my phone or gadgets connected over a mifi. I mostly pay for monthly packages(which barely see me through the month If i have to be frank) In the beginning, before I even started at this job, the reason I did that was because I found that my battery lasted longer that way..

I recall one time, when I was attending a virtual class that I spent so much on data. Although I did not even switch between platforms while I was at it, still it seemed like there was a data leakage somewhere. Data subscription plans that would normally last me two weeks, took less than three days to get exhausted. I had no idea what was wrong so I complained to this friend of mine who was versed at things involving softwares and the likes.

He looked through my device, and after making fun of me, proceeded to show me my faults. Some corrections were made and boy, I never had a reason to complain thereafter. I've since run by the lessons he gave me and never had reasons to complain.

Interestingly, they're basic things that the rest of us always overlook. And I'm excited to share them with you.

First, you should know that there are certain apps and updates that run automatically when your phone's data comes on and/or when your phone or computer is connected to a WiFi network. So here are what I do, which you can do to get your money's worth in full.

• Make sure to block your gallery from using mobile data.
• Restrict background data usage
• Definitely reduce the way you stream and download videos. Those aren't free.
• Make sure to turn off system apps(WhatsApp, Google play store, telegram and the likes) automatic updates over WiFi.
It's very advisable to turn of these within these app interfaces.
•Finally, many of us are guilty of this. We tend to turn off our data connection when not in use because we assume it saves data. It actually doesn't. Take your time to notice how your phone hangs when you turn your data back on after you have turned it off for a while. All of that rush of notifications from various apps when you turn the phone back on actually sucks your data and slows down your phone's performance rate temporarily.

Overall, play with your phone. Go through the settings and you might get to learn a thing or two. There may be more but these were the issues I had and areas I had to work on that changed the game for me.

So there, the ways I go by to conserve and manage data. I rarely have reasons to complain about my subscription draining in short time. I hope someone finds this helpful.

That's the thing. It's important to check and disable of these automatic update things.

Glad you wrote for the community there. Some useful tips especially turning off background data. Making sure apps have to ask before updating and so much more.

If I may make a small suggestion for next time... if you tag me @terganftp in the body of the article I'll see it sooner and often be able to curate using the #hivepakistan account. I can't offer much to those who post here but I do like to give what I can.

Expect to see 150 GLD tokens coming your way later today. Hope you feel like contributing again sometime :)

Thank youl
