Oh Home!

Source

I ran, I ran and I ran through the dark forest
Shoving past everything in sight, my legs not giving up;
The cold numbs me, slows me down,
But no stopping now -
Within my grasp is what I long for.

The wet dirt beneath my feet,
In the soothing cold of the earth I dug my heels;
Apprehensive to move forward - but I can't remain still,
No looking back -
The darkness has me in its wrap.

My heart thunders, hands clammy, the shivers in my spine,
The endless tremors I feel - not for the fear of the dangers ahead of me;
But for the excitement; the unknown holds all the thrill -
It's not fear I feel.

Even with the surrounding darkness, I can see,
The ever-so-familiar forest in my range of sight;
Should I be afraid of the dark, but I'm not -
I feel right at home, the place where I belong
For the darkness has been my confidante - always.

The dark doesn't give me hope, it doesn't lie
Nor whispers false promises to my ears -
It bares itself to me just as it is; no façade nor mask
For the dark may not pull me up, but doesn't break me down either.

The darkness looms over me; blankets me
It keeps me sane - strange, I know;
Others say it is terrifying and I find it endearing,
The comfort it gave me was absent in light -
For the light played tricks while the dark remained precise.

Amazing!

Your poem is a beautiful exploration of the darkness and its power to both terrify and comfort. It is a reminder that darkness can be a source of comfort and strength and it can provide a sense of belonging and security even in the midst of fear and uncertainty. Tnx for coming up with such a nice composition..
Best wishes fia!

well it's the darkness, my dear. Some see it's something frightening and others see it as a safe haven. We all see it differently just like a coin has two faces.

Awesome!!!

Once you find peace in Darkness... That's kind of a Noice Thing...not sure why I can relate with those words.

Truly deserves to be read by more... Sharing on Leothreads. !PIZZA

Welcome.. I try to find glimpse of light in even darkness.

Used to get frighten when I was kid but now more like a comfort zone.

come to think of it, even when I was a kid, dark never really bothered me much😅 I even found it hard to fall asleep if it's not completely dark in my room

I love this. The dark is a place of refuge for me, it brings me peace, when others feel fear. This really resonates with me. Thanks @surrealfia xxxx

The surreal darkness bathes your verses. I love that dance of analogy hovering over a reality of fears and circumstances.
Thanks for sharing.
Good day.

That was a good read, thanks. I don't read much poetry but lately I have been exploring places I've not yet trodden and I found your poem. I shared a link to your post over on threads https://leofinance.io/threads/@summertooth/re-leothreads-2cfskb9jm
It's microblogging on the hive blockchain and it's really been fun for me. I'm finding a lot of fun and talented folks here, which is pleasant but not a surprise. Cool skeleton graphic too :o

There is no pretense in darkness. There is a different kind of peace in the dark. Your words remind us that not everything dark is evil just like not everything light is good.

thank you so much... well I have realized that darkness isn't bad at all... it's just our perception and what we do... it's mostly depends on us

Greetings, a beautiful poem at some point makes us feel tension but also leads us to freedom of being, search and find way in the dark.

thank you so much... yes though darkness does make it difficult to see the path, without the darkness, we wouldn't appreciate life... much like fire which has the capacity to light our way and burn our whole world down... it's how we see it as that matters
