I am a participant and I decided to tell you about a rare fruit tree.
Mespilus family Rosaceae
Autumn has arrived, the work in the garden is coming to an end... All I have to do is pick the medlar... My favorite autumn fruit.
Here in Banat (Vojvodina, Serbia), this fruit used to be more common, because then there were not many imports of other fruits.
It has a specific taste and is very healthy.
I read that it was known to the Druids and the Romans who spread it throughout Europe. The Romans even planted it near each of their military camps...
Druids highly valued it both as a plant that stops bleeding and as a plant that predicts how some uncertain plan will end... They opened a medlar and if there was an odd number of seeds, then it was considered that there would be a successful outcome. While an even number of dice meant failure, then the plan would happen for a while....
It is a medicinal tree... The fruit is full of vitamin C,it also contains vitamins B2, B1, pectin, minerals calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium...
and it ripens just when it is most needed. It is used to regulate digestion...
The unripe fruit is used to stop bleeding...
The leaves are also medicinal and contain a lot of tannin. The bark is also medicinal and can be used to treat malaria.
This medlar tree of mine is so small, and this year it was studded with fruit. I grabbed the opportunity to wash it before the rains started....
I slowly began to unburden the branches, because they were placed almost to the ground... Sometimes the fruit was already soft, which is a sign that it is ripe and can be eaten...
I brought a wooden crate. I thought it would be good for all the fruits... But I was wrong... There were so many fruits that I had to bring another crate...
This is the beginning of picking, when I thought that one crate would be enough🤭
When I started to fill the second crate, I became aware of how many fruits this little tree produced.
There were also fallen fruits, most of which were soft, so I separated them into a bowl. That I can use them immediately... 😁
Here are the fruits that are suitable for eating, and I cut one fruit so that you can see the inside... It's like there is jam inside... Otherwise it's sweet and delicious 😊
Here is the tree freed from the burden, and now the branches have straightened a little... I believe the tree has breathed a sigh of relief...
Ihope you liked the fruit tree, at least on the fokta. If you didn't know about her, maybe now I've got you interested?!
You might want to have one in your backyard.🥰
Thank you very much for visiting my blog ❤️
Have a nice evening ✨

Thank you for entering the contest.
A very ancient type of tree. Today, however, they are not seen very often in gardens. It's a shame. Hopefully your article will inspire ANC friends to start growing this fruit :-)
My pleasure dear @bucipuci 💕
It's really rare. And I'm thinking of planting another medlar tree..
I hope to inspire them to get this rare wood🥰

Hola @suzana72, este fruto es muy similar al Níspero del Japón, que se da en Venezuela. Su color es diferente, pero imagino que el sabor debe ser parecido. Entre dulce y ácido.Me encantaron las fotografías, amiga. ¡Excelente! Cariños.😍
Hola @numa26
Talvez seja...
First glance at the fruit I thought tree looked similar to loquat tree, fruit not the same! On research I found this grows wild here, learn something new every day!
Wild medlar absolutely fascinating learning how fruits make their way to foreign land over the years.

I looked at what fruit you thought of. It is similar, and the leaves are almost the same. But the plants aren't from the same genus, so I guess the taste isn't the same either...
But I think my medlar has spread quite a bit, it's just a bit forgotten....
Thanks for stopping by @joanstewart 🥰
Fruits have also been cultivated in modern times, look similar yet nowhere near the same. Leaves quite often look the same, I have one tree I have yet to obtain true identity.
Always interesting learning about what is edible, very often we have no clue.
Yes, you are right @joanstewart 😊
Modern times new fruit...
But it's good that we still meet old varieties of fruit....
It is interesting to investigate which fruits are edible....
