Ufff, you are living proof that the merchandising they did was brutal in order to attract western audiences, but in the end they ended up failing.

Exactly. I was well aware of things like Magic the Gathering (got out when a guy traded his car for some first run card I had), dabbled in Pokemon TCG and some of the other copies that came out. Even though I was older than the demographic, I was still a kid at heart.

Yokai Watch? Completely flew under my radar. I am not sure how as I am always buying toys for nieces and nephews but I still somehow missed any of the toys till Dollar Tree had them.

I think a big problem the brand had was they were trying too hard to be Pokemon. Other franchises have been able to launch in a similar vein and see success - Digimon being one.
