Eyes here and eyes there ☆ In search | Wednesday Walk

Generally, people don't walk along the canal bank so frantically or gaze at the trees with such intensity; so, when they see me doing this, they likely think I’m a bit mad. I can’t gauge their exact mindset, of course, but that is probably what they think.

Sometimes I find myself wondering whether they aren't human, or if I don't count as one—because they don't observe nature with that particular sensibility, or perhaps I simply lack the feelings that exist within them.

I often sit in the shade of the trees for a long time, closely observing the wild plants growing nearby; and since it has rained recently, my focus is increasingly on searching for mushrooms.

As usual, there were many ducks along the canal bank again today; some were bathing, while others were strolling about.

It is absolutely true that if a person sets out to search for something, they can even find God; today, the idea of hunting for mushrooms was weighing heavily on my mind, and sure enough, I actually found some.

I was examining the soil with such intense focus—as if I had lost something—that any stranger watching me would surely have assumed I had dropped some money and was searching for it frantically, oblivious to my surroundings. In reality, however, I was looking for seashells, which I had spotted there in great abundance.

While I was engrossed in admiring the greenery, some elderly people and young men passed by me, taking their livestock along.

Many children were standing along the canal bank, while two others had been busy for quite some time in the water, making a futile attempt to catch fish with a net; yet, they had nothing to show for it. Whenever I asked them, they would claim to have caught three or four fish, but I could see absolutely nothing in their hands.
Watching the children, the water, the sky, and rolling my eyes here and there, I headed home and reached home.
