Monitoring the Students and Teachers on Social Media

George Orwell wrote a book 1984 capturing the essence of totalitarian state. A story of Winston Smith, a low ranking official, committed a crime of making a love affair with Julia.

It is crime in the Oceana state to even think against the authorities and the government. Famously, there is thought policing. The thought is being controlled and monitored by state and state-centered propaganda.

Although it is argued that surveillance of students and teachers is necessary for public safety, to curb cyber-bullying and the mental well-being of the students, but it would be a breach of basic human right, of privacy and against legal jurisdiction.

It is not in the jurisdiction of the school to breach the privacy of students and teachers

It does not fall within the school's jurisdiction to monitor the mobile phones of any student or teacher or to check their online activities.

Teachers and Students would lose their right to express

We already live in a society where there is no such thing as free speech. Anyone who dares to speak against the ill prevailing in the society or anyone who asks for rights of humans is being disappear. In such scenarios, monitoring the students and teachers in online spaces would be worse and equivalent to curb the free expression of public.

Schools should teach free-speeh and to stand for rights

Schools should be the heart of a society—capable of effectively articulating the condition of that society's heart.Conversely, if schools were to start acting like a totalitarian state. Then this would be tantamount to the death of the heart—and when the heart dies, how can a person remain alive?

Problem with Modern Schools

These days schools are producing young people who are designed solely for corporate culture. It seems that human beings are not being shaped, but rather machines are being created—machines destined to do nothing but earn money in society.

In fact, it is disheartening to see that schools these days are no longer merely educational institutions; instead, they operate on a business model.
Those were the good old days when schools were regarded as places for imparting education.

Nowadays, school administrations are well aware that the earnings generated from schools cannot be matched by any other business.

A materialistic mindset has damaged the roots of our society's tree. And this is a perfect example: when a tree becomes hollow at its core and its roots decay, it is rendered useless; instead, it collapses under its own hollowness.

Is there any Solution?

Children in schools should be imparted an education that turns them into human beings rather than machines. If children are taught independent reasoning and critical thinking, and are taught to raise their voices against injustice, an ideal society will certainly be created. As far as, the matter of monitoring the online activities of students and teachers; it is equivalent to the totalitarianism. It would raise questions over the legal jurisdiction and basic human right. It would be similar to surveillance state. Therefore, schools should do their own work and law should decide it's own course.

That is just it, school should focus on ensuring that knowledge is passed, and if it wants to do more, it can create sensitization on the bad contents creation and posts on social media but going beyond this to monitor teacher's or student's social media life is totally unacceptable
