How mental exhaustion can waste your life

avatar

Stop when your body tells you to

Mental exhaustion is feeling drained of all energy, and as it proceeds, motivation starts declining rapidly, as well. This problem is typically a result of stress or long-term overload. It can make even simple tasks feel impossible and leaves people feeling foggy, forgetful, and emotionally unstable. In severe cases, it can lead to clinical depression or anxiety disorders.

Sometimes it feels like your head will burst from the racing thoughts, tension and anxiety (Photo: Pixabay).

Mental health is something that should be taken seriously. It’s just as important as physical health but often isn’t given the same attention. I had a period of active near-daily blogging last autumn but at one point I simply had to stop for the sake of my sanity. During my break in winter, I often wished to come back to writing again. Yet, I was powerless. It was near impossible to put pen to paper (or, rather, fingers to keyboard). The exhaustion quickly consumed any thoughts that were coming to mind.

Nobody would try running with a broken leg. Why do we do it when our mental health needs treatment?

Many things can contribute to mental exhaustion, such as work pressure, emotional problems, lack of sleep or poor diet. It gets trickier when these factors start emphasizing each other. Strong emotions keep your thoughts racing, which affects your sleep. Being tired all day makes you more prone to irritability and poor judgement, including the consumption of lots of sugar. While sugar gives an immediate reward and a momentary energy boost to the brain, this comes at the price of a sharply spiking and then quickly collapsing blood sugar levels. In the end, this produces even more tiredness and moodiness.

Mental health should be prioritised. Nobody would try running with a broken leg. Why do we do it when our mental health needs treatment? (Photo: Pixabay)

Mental illness can lead to suicide, yet it’s still considered a taboo topic in many parts of the world. We need to talk about mental health more openly if we want to prevent the waste of life and abilities. Thankfully in my case, it did not manage to reach such an alarming extent, so the body’s self-preservation managed to prevent a disaster.

Sadly, high demands for performance can be deadly! As many as 15% of the patients with major depression commit suicide! A scientific publication discusses the matter,

Whoever is directly controlling the V2K told me to kill myself.
They told me if I killed myself now it would save the lives of countless others.
Saying the longer I wait to kill myself the more people will suffer.

They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years. I know there are many in prison that dont deserve to be there because of this. Your stay in prison will not be fun @battleaxe and friends. People are going to want you dead when they find out what you did. I hope you die a slow painful death. You sick mother fuckers.

Its a terrorist act on American soil while some say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic and foreign threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth?

hi @taimen whilst I am aware that you are a.k.a. neurodivergent.ai not everyone who reads your posts through Dreemport will know this 😉 Please could you pop a little note on the end of your posts to the effect that you have also posted the article in read.cash or PublishOx etc under X name so that when screeners check your post in Dreemport (and a different one may check each time) it is not at unnecessary risk of rejection for plagiarism because of the different names being used across the blogging platforms that you use. This would greatly assist us and keep things running smoothly for you in the Port, which is what we want for you 🤗 !PIZZA !ALIVE

Sure! I will note it from now on. When I signed up, I didn't realise that my Hive wallet username will be the one that I'll have on the platform, too.

I love your artwork♥️. This is a beautiful piece on mental health. A lot of people do not know that mental health is very important. If one is not mentally healthy, it affects every other bodily functions in one way of the other. I was just like you too. There was a period I got tired of blogging and everything. I wanted out of everything. At that moment I realised I was mentally exhausted and focused only on things that made me happy and stay positive. Good a thing I was able to break out but not everyone is so lucky as some end up with depression. I hope everyone who read this will learn to take their mental health very seriously.

By the way, @dreemport led me here. Keep writing.

Many thanks, @zyzymena! In the past, mental health problems have been downplayed massively. The more people talk about the topic, the less suffering there will be, though, the world won't change overnight. I'm glad to hear that you managed to get out of your exhaustion before it became too late.

Yeah, well, I'm new to all platforms... making newbie mistakes here and there 😀
I thought it was fine to repost writings since people might not be active everywhere but I got to realise that plagiarism is a huge problem online... I've been living in a bubble of my own for a long time.

Thanks for this post and for sharing some of your personal experiences with us, @taimen!

I agree with you. It seems that we have a worldwide epidemic of mental health issues. You mention several factors that contribute to that. What do you do to stay mentally fit?

Well, I wish I knew what's the best way to stay mentally fit. I've been on sick leave for six weeks now because of a mental breakdown. I'm working on myself and trying to identify what caused me to reach that state. Being aware of one's needs and state is ideally the way to keep yourself "sane". It's hard when you're neurodivergent, and your fatigue and stress thresholds are lower than average. You either overperform to be good at work and burn out, or you have to accept that you can't achieve everything that a neurotypical person would. Having said that, giving up is not a death sentence of sorts since there are alternative ways of having a fulfilling life.

I'm sorry to hear that!

It seems that you are on the right path. As a Life Coach, I work with a lot of people that are going through similar things. Being aware of one's personal state is a very good start.

Having said that, giving up is not a death sentence of sorts since there are alternative ways of having a fulfilling life.

Beautiful! There is a time in life to put everything on the scale and really decide what is important to us. And maybe the "alternative ways" are not the alternative, but it was always the "main way" to live life. It seems that you are making progress. Stay strong, my friend! Thanks for sharing this with us! !LUV

That's a good point! In the end, we can't force something to happen. When there's too much struggle, then it's not meant to be.

Thank you for the supportive words!

stress as one of the causes is really a problem to health. we should always listen to our bodies most importantly we should prioritize our health both mentally and physically in general.
Your drawing is very beautiful and superb

Thank you! Yes, stress is poison. It's a pity that at school, we're taught to work hard instead of ensuring that we know how to listen to our bodies.

I do remember going through a severe mental fog. It almost ate me alive and affected my daily activities. Taking time off everything is essential but for people like me, we have to practically drag ourselves out of working because we see sitting idle as laziness and we find our purpose in work. I did feel refreshed after the five days of no activity. Infact, people commented on how great my complexion was and how calm I appeared. So yeah sometimes we just have to tell our mind NO so not only our bodies can rest, but our minds as well. I found your post on Dreemport!

Yes, it's a horrible state of mind. You're not in control of your own body. You want to do your errands but you're exhausted. You want to work but your brain refuses to cooperate. Many thanks for checking out and commenting!

It's good to see mental health being talked about here on Hive. We all have to learn the value of the word NO. Just as our bodies can only sustain so much energy exertion during physical exercise, our mind also has its limits.

foggy, forgetful, and emotionally unstable... anxiety...

Yep... I can so relate to those mentioned above that you spoke about! I honestly believe that everyone will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lives. We are pushed so much every day by employers, educators, family, and friendship commitments, and at some point, we have to say... STOP! I need a break!

I hit this point a little over 2 years ago... Under constant juggling pressure at work, fighting through red tape to help my youngest son with his health challenges at home and at school, trying to cope with feeling overwhelmed and anxious (not realising I was going through menopause!). I ended up in my GP's office in tears - I sought help!!! It was the best thing I ever did as far as my health was concerned. I think I also had covid at the time 🙈... It took another 9 months before I was put on the right track to getting my life back (due to covid lockdowns) but I did. I ended up on HRT and feel back to my old self... from years ago. I hardly ever experience any of the symptoms that I had become accustomed to living with but not living happily.

It is really good to see that you have found your way back to writing again, and you are sharing some wonderful posts that I am enjoying finding in Dreemport. As we discussed previously, one just needs to take things a day at a time and when you need a break, you just step back and take that breath, because you know that your tribe will be waiting for you, to support you through it and welcome you back when you are ready to return. !ALIVE !LUV

Yes, I agree that practically everybody ends up in a state of exhaustion or some mental health issue because society sets us up for it. We are urged to give our best at everything. Laziness is wrong - yes, but what if our understanding of laziness is actually impaired?

It's great that you found the bravery to reach out to your doctor! It's a little thing that one can do to themselves that actually is beneficial to both the person and their loved ones.

Many thanks for your kind words and for sharing your experience!
