Beyond The Highlight Reel

Here's an obvious truth that many people discount; doing the small things consistently will put you far ahead of everyone else who tries to do big things consistently but fails miserably most of the times.

Having big dreams can get us fired up and if we progress to turn these dreams into goals, then they become like the destinations on a map and small, consistent actions are the steps that get us there. Without those steps, the destination remains out of reach.

The trick is the first steps look insignificant, like we're barely moving. Without persistence, giving up becomes the most likely possibility. But over time, those small wins add up, our confidence grows, and the bigger goals start to feel achievable.

The Struggle Is Real

I appreciate the fact that in this age of social media, we can follow the course of an individual's journey towards achieving their dreams. Many people are getting drawn to the idea of documenting their journey online and in public.

What's striking to me is the ability to witness the small, consistent actions that accumulate into big achievements over time.

For example, I remember a few years back I came across a young teenager who was into fitness and training, the dream being having an aesthetic body.

At that time, this domain wasn't known to me but when I came across one of his videos, he mentioned stoic principles and this was what made me subscribe to his page.

Now, my expectations were to simply learn about fitness. But what I discovered was a whole new passion for personal growth.

Following his journey, I saw how his dedication to fitness spilled over into other areas of his life. He talked about applying stoic principles to manage stress, stay disciplined, and overcome challenges – principles that I could apply to my own fitness goals, which were quite mediocre at that time.

It's not that I didn't heard of these principles before, but the way he talked about them was very relatable and applicable for me. Witnessing the tangible impact of small, consistent effort on all aspects of his life ignited a fire in me to pursue my own goals with a similar approach, especially in terms of dedication.

Inspiration in Action

Through following someone's documented journey, we see the daily(or weekly) practices, the behind-the-scenes work that truly contributes to their progress. It basically demystifies the process and highlights the power of consistent effort, making even our own small steps feel significant and impactful.

In the teenager's case, it was the consistent uploads, the sharing of struggles and successes, and the relatable application of stoicism that truly inspired me to revisit and rediscover my own journey towards achieving my dreams.

I think the real beauty of focusing on small, consistent actions is that it takes the pressure off, in that we're not overwhelmed by the enormity of the big goal and it makes the journey itself rewarding.
