The Business Side Of Things

avatar

I think many of us are not naturally business oriented but over the years we've learned to develop the skills required to be good-minded in it or even become business savvy. Everything shouldn't and can't be reduced to it but in the world of making and keeping that money, it does play an important part.

Thanks to the digital age, we have many opportunities to make bank. But are we making the best use of them in a sense that due to our lack of business knowledge, we're leaving more money on the table? Or is that we're making all this money and not knowing how to handle it, it slips away from our hands?

Some Important Parts

I won't lie, sales and marketing was never my thing. I find indirect persuasion a bit over the top and have come to realise that in human psychology, the indirect route has more lasting influence than the direct route. I think many who are new to business find the process a bit uncomfortable in a sense that it takes you out of your comfort zone and into unfamiliar territory.

However, with practice, practice, practice. Things tend to get better over time and the initial uneasiness dissappears away. Even with the digital age, these skills are practical so reading all the classical books about them will only help you partly, you have to go out there and do it. And yes, it can take a lot of time!

Another thing is the information we take in. There are many ways out there and each has its own upsides and downsides. Sometimes, we can forego finding our way among all the ways, so we settle on the most attractive way according to general sentiment and stick to it.

Another way of saying it is that we sacrifice originality for what's trendy and convenient. In as much as business means sticking to what works, you shouldn't forego what works for you or feel inclined to. You might create something new from it. It's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of branding. It shows that there's effort in creating your own style.

One of the most important parts is how to handle the money you've made. I think nobody gets it right in the beginning. You either do it too much or too little. Too much as in spending most of it and having little to nothing left. Too little as in trying to save it all and play the long game. I was among the latter group.

The ideal is somewhere between the two, spending on what's needed to move the business forward and saving the rest. Keeping a positive cash flow is easier said than done but I find sticking to a budget helps a lot.

Conclusion

Apart from pay day, Business isn't always that rosy and fun. It can be boringly complex, something that we don't look forward on doing. It's obvious enough that you could choose to delegate these things and focus on the interesting part but that only works if you're already really good at them.

Otherwise, it's much better to do them yourself and increase your understanding of things which could make you more business savvy. Also, the more parts you understand, the more you're able to effectively direct the whole.

Business can be truly boring, but then I think the incentive; the money, makes it worthwhile, and sometimes, the passion for a particular line of business can push one into enjoying the business they chose and vested in.

Yes, the sweet spot between finding a business one is passionate about and can make bank from it makes things less boring are more enjoyable. There are some of them out there and I think it is not that hard to find one in this digital age.

Not easy to make a move on running a business, I often don't see myself as one that is good with business though I have proven myself wrong on a few occasions, I tend to prefer the let the money work side of the business, let compounding investments do it thing but in this era, one has to be willing to learn and be expansive.

Yes, Indeed. I still see myself as average when it comes to business. There are many times in which I tried to find a way to skip the process but I wasn't successful in finding one. I think willing to learn and we expansive is needed in this modern era.
