Why Hive, You Say?

(Edited)

I learnt about Hive sometime late last year from a friend. I was looking for a way to earn money online. Before then, I was already a content writer of a sort. So I was like, "ok, this is what I do for free anyways". Since then, my Hive journey has been a rollercoaster. But after "rollercoasting" for a long time, I've finally decided Hive is the place for me; where multiple goals of mine meet. Why Hive you say? I'm going to give you five reasons out of the multitudes why I like and choose Hive. Shall we?

# Blockchain-Based
You see, during my "rollercoasting" days, I was searching for other blogging for crypto sites and I got involved in quite a few. Along the way, I learnt something that makes Hive unique and better positioned than its peers. Most blogs for crypto sites are just normal websites hosted on a normal server somewhere. The crypto-tipping mechanisms are parts of the website's code or are integrated. Hive in itself is a blockchain. We use and interact with the front-ends that are built on the blockchain.

This will ensure the longevity of the platform, even far beyond the eventual lifespan of the development team. This fact also creates what I like to call base stability as the majority of the changes will be happening at the front-ends. So, Hive is designed to stay and stay long, beyond anyone of us (dev, mods, users or guests).

# Decentralization
Another uniqueness of hive is the fact that it's decentralised. This decentralisation is what has led to multiple apps and ecosystems being built on the blockchain, which has increased the utility of the hive token itself. This decentralization has also created a system where no one is indispensable as there are tons of devs on the platform, tons of Dapo, tons of users and tons of everything.

Censor-Free
During my "rollercoasting" days, there was this platform I got involved with. It had some nice features itself, not to mention ease to earn. There was just one problem; censorship. In a space of a few months, I had had to create up to five different accounts as they were being effectively killed one after the other. Don't get me wrong, it's not like they will shut me down for insulting Trump, but they will shut me down for using words like shit, damnit, fuck etc.

Of course, it was their way of trying to keep the whole space safe for everyone, but that has always led to more censorship and still less protection. We know that in practice, it doesn't work. Hive doesn't have such a censorship mechanism written into its code. Here's the wonderful part though; I have come to see that hive is safer for work than even censored platforms. How then, you ask.

In my time here, I have come to see that there is this unwritten rule to not support or reward certain behaviours. Over time, a system of natural self-censorship seems to have been established in and of itself. It's such a beautiful thing. I can't tell you not to write bullshit, but you can't force me to accept or support it.

So, naturally, such unrewarded behaviours have been reduced to the barest minimum without anybody feeling oppressed or censored. This lack of censorship extends to developers as anyone can build anything on the chain, so as far as it is useful and adopted. Isn't that just great?

# One-Stop Shop
Do you know how I said there are hundreds of devs on the platforms? Well, the number of Dapps, front-ends and services built on the chain are way more numerous. This ensures there is an app/service for whatever it is you are seeking in the online space, with the added benefits. There's something for everybody and something for everything you needto be donee.

# Reward
Another special thing about Hive is the reward system. The reward system seems to have been designed to reward value. Those who contribute the most value seem to be the ones who get the most rewards. This kind of reward system encourages diligence. The seeming proportionate rewards cause the one you want to give more because they want to earn more.

The multi-reward system also makes it special and unique. The second layer of reward tokens can sometimes become significant. It's like being rewarded multiple times for one job.

I could go on and on, but I'll leave it here. So, haven't read all that, I'm sure the question is no longer "why Hive?", but "why the hell not?"

That's an excellent synopsis. There are so many amazing things about Hive, that coming up with an exaustive list is pretty challenging. Another big one is the multitude of ways that one can generate income on Hive, especially passive income. It's a whole world unto itself. Thanks again for a great post! 🙏 💚

I'm happy you find the post great. Thank you. And you are quite right. It will take an entire book to write all about Hive
