100 Years+ Monument 🪨, Tenghilan's Pedestrian Tunnel 🎨 and Dinner Date 🍽️

100 Years+ Monument

Our (@butwo and I) next stop is at Tenghilan small town with intention of visiting the small tunnel with mural painting there. Once we arrived our desire destination by following Google Map navigation, we unexpected saw a historical monument in front of us.

There are not much details about this monument on the website. Generally, this is the Sabah Memorial Monument of Tenghilan, a sign of peace or symbolic of agreement between ethnic groups in Tenghilan. The stone from this monument existed before the period of Malaysian independence or maybe before the date of British colonisation of North Borneo. As at the current date, this symbolic stone had been displayed as a monument was over 100 years old.

Some of the trees surrounding this monument are with thick branches. Maybe these trees are also over 100 years of age that have been taken care of very well by the residents or the town council of Tenghilan.

Tenghilan's Pedestrian Tunnel

I though this Tenghilan's Pedestrian Tunnel was built before my date of birth, but not. This tunnel is younger than me by 10 or less than 10 years.

After the re-allocation of the main road for car crossing between Kota Belud and Kota Kinabalu, this pedestrian tunnel had been abandoned as fewer people used it to cross the road. In the year 2015, this tunnel was beautified by a group of students for a certain competition. The tunnel has been painted with murals on the left, top and right inside the tunnel.

Sadly, some spots of the murals were vandalised with unsightly wording or pictures. I wish that these unsightly pictures could be got rid of as in my opinion, with this tunnel and the aged Sabah Memorial Monument in Tenghilan, this place has the potential for more people to visit as a tourist attraction. This initiative also able to boost up the economy for the business in this small town as well.

Dinner Date

It is less than one hour till night time. We would like to visit more places with unique attractions, but we don't have enough time. We need to bring the souvenir as well as the dinner meal (Sinalau Bakas) that we bought during our road trip back home for our family to enjoy.

With @butwo expert driving and smooth roads during the car ride on our way back home, we reached Kota Kinabalu, our hometown earlier. We don't feel like going back home early since we think that we have extra time to hang out outside. Thus, we end up having our own dinner date outside before returning home.

There are many choices of restaurants in Kota Kinabalu. However, we still have a hard time making a decision about which restaurant we want to have our dinner at. Until we stop by a Chinese restaurant with pretty outdoor decorations.

Without looking at this restaurant's menu, we already thought that this restaurant definitely served expensive food. We did not enter this restaurant, but @butwo managed to take nice pictures of me with the restaurant's outdoor decoration. Luckily, this restaurant owner did not chase us away from his business premises.

Tired of selecting a not familiar restaurant that we did not enter before, I just lead @butwo to a restaurant that I had entered before. Guan (the name of the restaurant), my family and I had dinner here before. I guarantee @butwo that this restaurant has good recommendations from my family.

With the interior design of this restaurant, it gets a passing rate or satisfaction from @butwo. I'm happy to hear it as if the restaurant did not get his good impression, he will ban it from entering that restaurant again in the future.

In overall, we have pleasant dinner date in this restaurant. No complain from @butwo above the food mean he like it too. In addition, each set meal was all under the price of RM20 (USD4).

I had my second dinner meal at home as I'm jealous looking at my family eating the Sinalau Bakas that @butwo and I bought during our road trip. It's hard for me to get fit for not being able to resist eating the delicious food in front of me 🥲.
