Red Decorations War with Neighbor 🏮🏮🏮

Hello everyone 👧.

Chinese New Year (CNY) is coming soon. We celebrate this season every year, and we usually decorate our home with festive decorations. Yet our newly-arrived neighbor, who just moved in December last year, had decorated for Chinese New Year before Christmas. My family and I were able to see my neighbor's red lantern decorations from the garage of our house.

My Dad told @butwo (the only energetic man in my house right now) to decorate our house for Chinese New Year last month. But, we just decorated our house for Christmas. Also, I had suggested to my Dad and my Mum that we could decorate our house with both holiday decorations as I saw some houses doing it.

It didn't work for Mum because she said it would be weird if we did it that way. Okay, let's follow the Queen's decision 😅.

Our neighbor's CNY decoration

We started decorating our house with CNY decorations after my Mum, Sister and I returned from our travel trips early in the month this year.

We are using the red lanterns that we bought last year again. After decorating it in our garage, my Dad and Mum both said they thought our red lanterns weren't as good as or lesser than our neighbor's. Then, we decided to go out and buy more red lanterns.

To buy additional red lanterns, we visited the Super Not Save shop that I have always mentioned in my many posts. As usual, the shop decorated its business premises creatively and beautifully with holiday decorations.

There were unique red lanterns hanging from the ceiling of the shop that had lighting and could be spun around. I bought one pair of it, since my Mum kept staring at it for a long time and my house didn't have a red lantern with lights. As below, the red lanterns cost RM200+ (USD RM46+) per pair. I simply asked my Mum to select the cheapest red lanterns with lights under RM150.

Before paying the bill, we asked the shopkeeper to test the other red lanterns we wanted to buy. Because we frequented visited this Super Not Save once or twice a month, we knew these two shopkeepers were newly hired. While they helped us test the red lanterns we had chosen, my Mum kept chatting with them. Luckily, these two new shopkeepers were friendly to us.

Afterwards, we went home after having dinner outside.

We set up the new red lanterns the next day as it was already quite late to set the decorations up at night. Here are the results of decorating my house with our old and newly purchased red lanterns.

Before CNY, my younger brother (an electric and electrical engineer) will be back in Kota Kinabalu. Most of our neighbor's red lanterns had lights, whereas we only got two red lanterns with lights. My Mum wants to request my younger brother to set us up the lighting so that we have more red lanterns with lights if he is available to help.

For me, I think I'm already happy with our current decorations since there are more red lanterns now and better than last year. We may still lose to our neighbor this year, but maybe next year I can upgrade our CNY decorations within my budget.

That's all. Thanks for reading my post 🤗.
