Hello everyone πŸ‘§.

This is my first post for #MarketFriday by @dswigle .

Tamu is known as the weekly market in Sabah. The Tamu Dongonggon market operates from Thursday and Friday in Penampang, Sabah. On my Dad's request, my Mum, @butwo and I headed to Tamu Dongonggon to look for baby Tilapia fish last Friday.

First we searched for baby Tilapia fish before moving on to other stalls to buy other goods until we reached the outdoor section of Tamu Dongonggon. The beautiful flowers on the stall attracted my Mum's attention. Then she stopped searching for the baby Tilapia fish and looked at the flowers.

My Mum was interested in the red leaves flower. The seller of this flower stall was very helpful. I watched her line up all the red leaves flower stocks she had available for my Mum to choose from. As my Mum selected the red leaves flower she liked, I asked the seller of the flower stall where the stall selling baby Tilapia fish was located.

We then walked to the stall that sells baby Tilapia fish after my Mum had purchased the plant she liked. Along the route to our destination, we saw many fish, but dead fish and dried fish for sale.

Many live fishes such as river eel, catfish, softshell turtle, karuk fish, sapat fish and others are sold here. However, no baby Tilapia fish were found. According to the live fish seller, we should return to Tamu Donggongon in the early morning at 6 am next Thursday. Apparently, this baby Tilapia fish is a hot sales item that sold out in less than one day.

We have to return here next week, but we will bring my Dad with us. We tried to avoid my Dad saying to us that we don't know how to pick a proper fish. We just let my Dad to hand pick the fish by himself. πŸ˜…

Even though we failed to fulfill my Dad's request, we just continued shopping in Tamu. We started our shopping in the outdoor section of Tamu since it was nearby.

Two uncles selling sharp tools for such as kitchen knifes and parang

Algae. The green one we called it as Latok

Just looking at the abalone, makes me mouth watering if that has been sipped with limes

Our local seasonal fruits, tarap and cempedak, are only sold for a limited time every year. The seller isn't here, so we can't buy it. Although my Mum had touched (such as light slapping and smelling) most of the fruits in that fruit stall , we had to leave as the fruit seller had not yet returned to this fruit stall.

50% of the goods sold in Tamu Donggongon are vegetables and fruits.

My Mum hand picked the finest gingers

Packaged cut vegetables ready to cook at home

Buy 3 types or packages of fruit for only RM5.00 (USD1.16)

Containers of preserved seasoning food made from Bambangan (yellow) and Tuhau (red/orange)

The long exotic vegetables just beside the banana is Tuhau

The brown round shape exotic fruit is Bambangan. I love Bambangan πŸ˜‹

These leaves are not consumable. It's for herbal baths after boiling it

Various types of rice majorly harvest from hill or mountain

Many classes of eggs with different price. The 'A' class egg the most largest and expensive one

Kopi Tenom, or our locally ground coffee powder, is well known for its aroma and taste. It's best to bring it back as a souvenir if you come visit Sabah

Lihing or rice wine with a bit of alcohol. Best to cooked it as soup with ayam kampung. Google said ayam kampung is free-range chicken

Not only food and beverages are available in Tamu, but also clothing, accessories, toys, perfumes, soaps are sold here.

Second hand books and accessories

Children toys

Shirts and pants

Perfumes

Hand made fragrant soaps

Local handicrafts section. Normally, these handicrafts we buy as family heirlooms, as gifts, as fashion accessories during festive seasons such as Pesta Kaamatan and weddings, as collections, or as replacements for our existing handicrafts at home.

I got 5 of these color straw bags as collection at home

Finished our shopping in Tamu Dongonggon. We saw a stall selling vegetable seeds in packages when we exited the Tamu.

In case you plan to travel or wish to visit Tamu Dongonggon, make sure you bring more cash in your wallet. Most of the stalls inside only accept cash as payment.

It was already lunchtime at that time too. We walked to a restaurant nearby the Tamu Dongonggon to have our lunch with refreshing cold black coffees.

That's all. Thanks for reading my post πŸ€—.

The market in Sabah looks a lot like the markets in Suriname (country in South America), minus the live/fresh eel in plastic bags. Eel isn't really a staple in Suriname.

I directly search for image of markets at Suriname in Google after you mentioned about it. It's really looks a like. By the way, this Tamu Dongonggon also one of the market in Sabah. Not sure when is the actual year the market been established, but my Dad said this market is the place he always went to when he still a kid.

That looks like a nice market. There's a little bit of everything, for everyone. I suppose you can spend hours there, just looking around.
