[ENG/ESP] A Sunday of rest, love, and sunsets
We’re starting a new week with new tasks and challenges, and I sincerely hope that everyone does very well in whatever they undertake. As for me, I’ll start this week with my energy fully recharged, because Sunday was a true gift; I rested, spent time with my family, and ended the day watching a sunset that looked as if it had been painted with calm and love.
On Sundays at home, we don’t usually get up early. My husband and I get up around 9:00 a.m., and this time we were able to do so in complete peace thanks to our son, who fed the chickens and the dogs early on. That gesture allowed us to enjoy a few more hours of worry-free rest—something we’re always grateful for when the week has been intense.
We had planned to spend the day resting and then go to my father’s house, because we’re cutting down some trees whose branches are interfering with his internet signal. After breakfast, the three of us set off for his house. The weather was wonderful—a bit stifling, but nothing out of the ordinary for the island, which always embraces us with its characteristic warmth.
Comenzamos una semana nueva con nuevas tareas y retos, y deseo de corazón que a cada uno le vaya muy bien en lo que emprenda. En mi caso, esta semana la iniciaré con todas mis energías renovadas, porque el domingo fue un verdadero regalo; descansé, compartí en familia y cerré el día contemplando un atardecer que parecía pintado con calma y cariño.
Los domingos en casa no solemos madrugar. Mi esposo y yo nos levantamos cerca de las 9:00 am, y esta vez pudimos hacerlo con total tranquilidad gracias a nuestro hijo, que temprano alimentó a las gallinas y a los perros. Ese gesto nos permitió disfrutar unas horas más de descanso sin preocupaciones, algo que siempre se agradece cuando la semana ha sido intensa.
Habíamos planeado dedicar el día a descansar y luego ir a casa de mi padre, porque estamos cortando unos árboles cuyas ramas afectan su señal de internet. Después de desayunar, salimos los tres rumbo a su casa. El clima estaba estupendo, un poco sofocante, pero nada fuera de lo común para la Isla, que siempre nos abraza con su calor característico.
When we arrived, my son and my husband started cutting one of the main branches, but it was too big. Our son, who’s always so resourceful, tied a rope around it and pulled it carefully to make sure no one got hurt.
Al llegar, mi hijo y mi esposo comenzaron a cortar una de las ramas principales, pero era demasiado grande. Nuestro hijo, siempre tan ingenioso, ató una cuerda y la haló con cuidado para evitar que alguien se lastimara.
While they took care of the heavy lifting, my father told me once again the story of the Mercedes he cherishes so dearly. That car, although it no longer runs well due to its age, holds enormous sentimental value for him, and every time he mentions it, he does so with a mixture of nostalgia and pride.
Mientras ellos se encargaban de la parte pesada, mi padre me contaba una vez más la historia del Mercedes que guarda con tanto cariño. Ese carro, aunque ya no funciona bien por los años, tiene para él un valor sentimental enorme, y cada vez que lo menciona lo hace con una mezcla de nostalgia y orgullo.
After having lunch together and enjoying each other’s company, we said goodbye. We still wanted to make the most of the day, so we decided to take a stroll through the streets of Pampatar, that beautiful town in Maneiro that always captivates us with its unique charm. Its streets, its people, its cuisine, and its distinctive atmosphere make every visit special.
Después de almorzar juntos y compartir un rato agradable, nos despedimos. Aún teníamos ganas de aprovechar el día, así que decidimos dar un paseo por las calles de Pampatar, esa hermosa localidad de Maneiro que siempre nos cautiva con su encanto particular. Sus calles, su gente, su gastronomía y esa dinámica tan propia hacen que cada visita sea especial.
We passed by the San Carlos de Borromeo Castle, which stands imposingly as a reminder of our history and of the beauty that the island holds in every corner.
Pasamos por el castillo de San Carlos de Borromeo, que se alza imponente como recordatorio de nuestra historia y de la belleza que guarda la isla en cada rincón.
On our way home, the sky treated us to a wonderful sunset. The horizon was bathed in shades of gold and pink, as if the day wanted to say goodbye with a warm embrace. It was the perfect ending to a Sunday that allowed us to rest, spend time together, and recharge our energy for everything that lies ahead.
Ya de regreso a casa, el cielo nos regaló una puesta de sol maravillosa. El horizonte se tiñó de tonos dorados y rosados, como si el día quisiera despedirse con un abrazo cálido. Fue el cierre perfecto para un domingo que nos permitió descansar, compartir y recargar energías para todo lo que viene.
