[ENG/ESP] A workday Wednesday that also tells stories

Happy Wednesday, dear community. Today I’m writing to you again with a heavy heart, because even though the days keep passing and the calendar doesn’t stop, the flags remain at half-mast and sadness lingers like a silent shadow. We’re still thinking of our friends, our families, and so many people who haven’t been able to recover from the devastating earthquake that shook the mainland. That collective wound stays with us, but it also drives us to stay strong, to work with the best attitude possible to offer—even if only a modest amount—support to those who need it most.
This Wednesday, my husband and I went out on our usual route. It wasn’t a long walk or one filled with stops, but rather a simple outing with two specific, yet equally important, tasks. The first was to take a list of tools that needed to be purchased so they could be sent as aid to the mainland. It was a small responsibility amid everything that’s happening, but every little bit helps. Luckily, the city welcomed us with warm weather—that sun that seems to embrace and lift our spirits—and a blue sky that, despite everything, invites us to breathe with hope.

We completed that first task without a hitch and moved on to the second: servicing a filter at the Unik Hotel. Upon arrival, the maintenance manager welcomed us very warmly. He first invited us into his office to explain in detail what the problem was and what was expected of us.

We then moved on to the area where the damaged filter was located. It was the cascade filter, an important component of the hotel’s system that, unfortunately, had deteriorated due to a lack of timely maintenance. These are consequences that, though painful, must be accepted.
The filter media had solidified over time, turning into a clay-like mixture that was difficult to remove. This complicates the process, because it’s no longer just a matter of extracting material, but of figuring out how to proceed without compromising the structure. We took samples to determine the best course of action and assess whether we could salvage the filter, which, at least visually, still appears to be in good condition.

With everything noted down and a clearer picture of the damage, we headed home to start mapping out the steps we’ll take in the coming days. Although it was a short trip and purely for work, I didn’t want to miss out on participating in our friend @tattoodjay’s weekly initiative. This space has become a little refuge—a moment to share, to connect, and to remember that even amid responsibilities and worries, there’s always something to share.

Dear friends on the Wednesday stroll, thank you for joining me once again. Sometimes our walks aren’t touristy, even though there are always scenic views—which are still part of the life we live and the stories worth sharing. I’ll see you next Wednesday, with another little slice of my Wednesday and another walk that I hope you’ll enjoy.
See you soon.
Bye.
Chao.
