A Wedding Held in A Botanical Garden πŸ’ Pleasantly Surprised

avatar

In 2019 I was looking forward to attending two weddings in 2020 and then the lockdown(s) happened and we're now one year further and those two wedding ceremonies didn't happen. Yes, the couples did get married, but in a more intimate setting of course.

Now one year further, when the numbers are stabilizing a bit and we're trying to normalize as much as we could, we were happily surprised to receive an invite of a couple dear to us. They've been together for more than a decade and have been through some ups and downs together, which made them a stronger unit. So of course we readily rsvp-ed. The ceremony was also intimate, yet memorable and we were delighted to share this special moment with them. We also got to see familiar faces, some of whom we haven't seen in a while.

And the location was above what I had expected. This spot has already made a name for itself in Suriname, but I've never been to events held there. Most people I know opted for other locations for their parties or weddings, so before we attended the event I searched online for this place to get an idea of the setting. I was pleasantly surprised and I understand now why it's come up in conversation as a prime location for events.

The location where this wedding had taken place was Prakwaki's Botanical Garden and I've got to say that their Facebook-page doesn't do them justice, because of the lack of pictures, advertisement and their last social posting dating August 2020. I can understand that they've probably already made a name amongst the locals and that most of their advertisement is the old fashioned word of mouth, which has its perks and hey if it's not broken why fix it.

But, living in this day and age and other spaces being more popular in my social circles - yes, I am aware of my (small) social bubble πŸ˜… - I think that they could do more to improve their social presence, especially how there are less social events being held these days. And, no I'm not being sponsored and I wish I had taken more pictures and of better quality. I was more focused on the couple, catching up with the familiar faces and getting my groove on.

That's it for today and hope life is also normalizing gradually in your parts. Stay safe! πŸ’ͺ

It does... Of course it's been decorated, which brought the garden to a whole other level, but still... if you think of all the possibilities.

Very nice venue @tanjakolader
Shame they don't have a enough pictures.
If you are building any business networking and social engagement is key.
Especially these days where a lot of people don't barley look up from thier devices.
It is what i am working on now.

That's true and to think that the owner's a well-known figure in Suriname... He might be busy and leaves this part to others, but then in his case he should hire someone to maintain his social media accounts.

What beautiful setting for a wedding ceremony.

Was my first time there and all the events that could be held there came to mind haha.
Although, I've heard some mentioning that they stopped there, to take wedding pictures but not for their ceremony. So I was aware of the popularity amongst some, but wasn't able to form my opinion yet back then.

That is horrible that they have not been able to have a big ceremony, that garden is beautiful. I am ready for this pandemic to be done already :-)

Yeah, the couple had to scale down their invitations, but it was a beautiful wedding and the most important people to them were in attendance.

I am ready for this pandemic to be done already :-)

Me too... Life should gradually go back to normal as normal as it could be...

That is a beautiful venue for a wedding. Congratulations to your friends. Yes, as life starts to normalize it will be important for places step up their game to draw more events.

Yes, as life starts to normalize it will be important for places step up their game to draw more events.

That's so true... Just like with the vacation destinations - both inland as to abroad - we've seen quite a few promotional and "sales" advertisements online. Same with restaurants, although some have become unattainable for quite some people. But that's really because of the inflation before and during the pandemic.

Yes, that is most probably true, @tanjakolader! Stupid pandemic screwed with everyone's lives in one way or another. And it still isn't done. Frustrating. Have a great day! πŸ˜€

Outdoor weddings are bliss. Never be to one though. how is the wedding system there? Interestingly , here you actually pay to go to the wedding but in the west it balances out as you have to buy a present.

Varied, because of the different ethnicities living here. I mean, we have westernized weddings in churches, in city hall, etc. and then you have the Chinese-Asian weddings or Hindu weddings or Muslim ceremonies, etc.

I don't know about having to pay to go to a wedding though... It's not like it was ever mandatory, but you could either give an envelope (with money) or buy a gift for the couple.

I was told that in certain Hindu families, when you gift money the amount and the name of the person who gifted it, will be penned down. At a certain point during the reception all the names and amounts are being read out loud πŸ™ˆ. Luckily, most have broken with the tradition, but it's still happening. I myself haven't experienced it.

Could be that some couples ask a certain or minimum amount of money as "gift", but hasn't happened in my social circle, so couldn't say with certainty.
