Miss ANJ, Vibing With Strong Messages 🎢 #RJNAS

avatar

How elated I was today, when I found the music of an artist online, whom I've been hearing on the car radio last year. The thing is, I often hear new good music on the radio, but when I arrive at my destination, I often forget to search for the song and/or musician.

It's because of me catching up on news from last week, that I stumbled upon this news article, that's mentioning a new song from Miss ANJ. Miss ANJ, who has roots in Suriname, was born as Nisha Anjuli Ratnadevi Bhansingh and grew up in small towns in the Netherlands. After graduation she moved to France for work and the colleagues from the French Antilles, helped her to identify with her Caribbean roots. She also participated in Reggae Star Factor in 2020, where she was dubbed "pocket rocket" by one of the judges.

Listening to Ms. ANJ's music Reggae, Dancehall, R&B, Soca and Pop sounds are prevalent, that's beautifully being guided by her strong vocals. The songs also have a dance vibe to it and the messages in the lyrics are either to motivate and/or to empower. Because of that it was hard to make a selection of her songs.

Let's start with the song Won't Forget, because of the danceable vibes with lyrics describing "not forgetting where one comes from" to go. Another reason is that the videoclip was shot in Suriname, for those who are wondering what parts of Suriname are like. This tune is definitely one I'll exercise to.

Followed by Destiny, of which the videoclip got uploaded this year. This song has a powerful message, that the woman/girl should create her own destiny. Yes, there are obstacles, with the chess board as a reference to every level having its own challenges, but those are overcome by not letting oneself be sidetracked by those drawbacks.

And with Keep The Fyah Burning Miss ANJ is encouraging people to "hold on" during the Covid-19 pandemic, in spite of seeing empty streets and businesses closing. Let's get through this together and keep that spirit strong inside.

To close off, here's the party and clubby song Light Up The Place, because of its Dancehall, Soca and Pop influences. Furthermore, if you listen closely you'll hear Sranan (Suriname's ligua franca), Sarnami (Hindi language evolved in Suriname) and Patois entwined into the lyrics. With this tune Miss ANJ wants to highlight the beauty from Suriname and the Caribbean, which is why some visuals were shot in Suriname and why she collaborated with local dancers.

Let's light up the place this new week! πŸ”₯

Yeah, she's a beauty and it was my pleasure sharing her music. She is still climbing the ladder, but I can see her popularity growing. Hope to see her perform one day now that restrictions have loosened.
