Why I Want To See More Female Heroes Like Tsunade 🎥
Because everyone shall have their own description of what a female heroine should look like - whether it be a caring mom, a thorough doctor, a badass secret agent or lawyer - I'm not saying in any way or form that mine is better than the rest. I just want to point out why I would like to see more characters like the one I've chosen for this post.
I've become acquainted with Tsunade upon watching the anime series Naruto and from the get go I was amused by her, especially her loving rivalry (not using hate, because of the respect they have for one another) and banter with Jiraiya. From the first introduction of Tsunade, you'll see she's not without flaws - she has a short temper, is vain, has a drinking and gambling problem - and yet one keeps rooting for her because of her redeeming qualities.
If you ask me I would say that the storytellers have done a good job in writing her character arc, because she's gone through almost everything imaginable (multiple wars and losing her loved ones) and the viewers have seen the worst of her and yet she was able to find some hope again in the next generation and in the future of the world she knew. Hope that she had thought lost after the deaths of her ambitious younger brother Nawaki and her lover Dan.
Not to mention her exceptional talent as a shinobi - that she honed after decades of experience - in the control of chakra, the healing and transformation techniques, amongst other skills. Another reason why I enjoyed watching her story was that even though being the Hokage (leader) of her clan/village wasn't her dream and that she would rather support those she deemed more fit for the job, she eventually took on the responsibility when the spark of hope got reignited in her.
And though she hated the administrative side of being the Hokage, she took up the mantle so that the people she deemed worthy had enough time and support to grow and develop as shinobi and to become leaders in their own right. Because as a Hokage she had to make hard decisions, she didn't allow her emotions and feelings cloud her judgment. I could go on and on about how greatly written Tsunade is, but I'll conclude with that she's a well rounded female character.
Lady Tsunade was a real one!
Yeah she was! Really enjoyed watching her from the start and seeing how her story unfolded through the storyline.

She is a pretty awesome character. Kishimoto is a genius. Naruto was my introduction to anime.
Yes, they are... I read how he based Naruto on myths, legends and history from Japan and it's pretty genius how he entwined it into a cohesive story.
Ah that's cool. I grew up a little with it because they used to show some anime here on the tv, but Naruto was really the one that I really followed from start to end. I've also seen Dragonball way before, but only bits and pieces (when you're dependent on the tv-station). A few years ago was when I finally could follow the storyline thoroughly.

I study TCM massage, and Naruto so far gives a much better description of Qi than most practitioners lol. I'm getting into One piece now. I thought it was like a shallow Naruto for a long time because it seems so drawn out but it's actually genius in it's own way. Lots of social commentary
Ah that's so cool. I used to work in a children's museum and once upon a time the exhibition was based on China, which is where I was introduced to the importance of Qi and TCM was also highlighted. I was fascinated by the cupping technique. Of course we didn't do it in the museum, we only informed the guests about the technique.
I still need to watch One Piece, which is talked about frequently amongst friends who've already seen it.
I have a cupping set at my house. I use it every once in a while. The first time I did it it really scared me but after 4 or 5 times it just became so easy. It doesn't hurt, it just feels really awkward.
Ah that's so cool...
I've only seen it being used on tv. There used to be a business/clinic specialized in TCM here in Suriname and they used to show some of the techniques on tv as a promo, but don't know if it's still open.
