He Should Post On 3Speak

avatar

People do not realize what is taking place. We often discuss the difference between Web 2.0 and 3.0. It is amazing to see it is in action.

So far, very few are aware of Web 3.0 along with what it offers. Many are looking to build their following on the traditional platforms like YouTube and Twitter. This article is going to detail one individual's experience with YouTube.

All of us know of the potential pitfalls with traditional social media sites. However, that honestly does not apply to most. The majority of content creators are not posting topics that are controversial, at least from the platform's perspective.

The reality is most engage in perfectly acceptable topics (again from the platform view) in an effort to ultimately monetize their content. With YouTube, it evidently is a long process.

The Quest For YouTube Monetization

The following video is one person's question to reach monetization on YouTube. If you do not want to watch the video, here is a quick recap.

  • To become monetized with YouTube, the requirement is 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of video watching. This particular channel is about to cross 4,000 hours yet is still more than 350 subscribers short.

  • It is a channel that has over 150 videos posted on it.

  • According to the creator, even getting to monetization doesn't really mean much since "you still make negligible money".

  • The payout split for ad revenue is 55%/45% once monetization is reached (in favor of YouTube).

  • Before reaching the required level, YouTube puts up ads from which it keeps 100% of the revenue. The content creators gets none of it. Here is where this individual feels it is unfair considering it hinders the viewer experience yet of no benefit to the channel. The only one benefitting is YouTube.

Even writing all of this, it seems like a marathon. Nevertheless, it is helpful to see the process that one has to endure on YouTube just to get negligible money. We can see how it is a long-term building process but to what end? It is evident why most YouTube channels do not make a significant amount of money for the content creator.

3Speak: A Better Alternative

We can easily see how much of an improvement 3Speak is over this present process, at least from a monetization standpoint.

Certainly, one can easily make the case that the number of users is not on this new platform. There is little doubt the masses are on YouTube, the video king of Web 2.0. However, it is hard to ignore the monetary distribution goes to the one single whale.

And people complain about how the rewards are distributed on Web 3.0? Here we have a single whale which takes most of everything.

There is also no debate that those who are monetized on YouTube put in the effort. It evidently is not an overnight process. Unless one has a huge following from another social media channel, the path starts from near zero. Even this creator had a rather large following on his blog, something that did not translate into YouTube followers since there was a demographic difference.

In looking at the New Content page on 3Speak, it looks like most videos received at least negligible money. The majority of the scan was posted in the last 90 minutes. Without delving into each account, we have no idea how long the people were on the platform yet there are going to be some type of payouts in a week.

Now consider this:

What if this YouTuber spent the last 8 months putting together videos and posting them on 3Speak? If this individual had 150 videos on that platform, would he still have a return of ZERO?

The last part is vital. So far, this person made absolutely nothing off his YouTube channel. There is not one single penny that flowed to him. Ponder that for a minute.

Certainly we cannot presume that monetary payout is the sole focus of this individual although the fact he is making a video tracking the progress says it is very important to him. Nevertheless, how different would things be from that perspective if he posted on 3Speak also? Even if he put the videos up a week after release on YouTube, he would still be monetized to a much greater degree.

It is fair to say that, in 8 months time, he would easily surpass his total YouTube earnings of zero.

Web 3.0 Is Changing Everything

There will come a point where most of these content creators understand what the situation is. Unfortunately, it appears this YouTuber is not going to be one of the early adopters. He is already familiar with cryptocurrency and seems not to think too highly of it. That might be a mistake.

Leaving him aside, this situation does contrast the different between the two paradigms. Web 2.0 favors, almost exclusively, the platform. There is very little monetarily given to the content creators with nothing really going to the users.

Those who are starting to get a trickle of revenue coming in have to trudge for months before seeing any results. On a Web 3.0 platform like 3Speak, one can receive an upvote on his or her very first video.

Web 3.0 is presenting the opportunity for builders. It is evident this individual is willing to put in the time and effort. He is not taking a short-term approach. There is an understanding that success in this arena is not an overnight process. It is the same approach we tell people to bring to Web 3.0.

However, it might end up that this individual's effort is going to be wasted. What is the timeframe we are looking at before Web 3.0 puts a serious dent in the traditional platforms? It might seem absurd at this time since the usage between the two is so stark. Nevertheless, we can easily see how Web 3.0 is offering a much improved model.

Think of the time people spend on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Naturally, not everyone engages with those sites for monetization. It is safe to say the majority are using them for the social engagement.

Yet, he we see how few are making money on YouTube, the one platform that does share the revenues. People are making nothing off Twitter and Facebook.

That is not the case on a platform like Hive. Through an application like 3Speak, people can get rewarded on their very first video. This also applies to blogging and commenting.

Perhaps we should start to discuss the lifetimes earnings of Web 2.0 versus Web 3.0. Of all the content creators on traditional social media, how many made even a few dollars over the years spent on those platforms? Now contrast that with Hive-based content, most of which gets some type or reward if one is active.

We can presume this individual would have made a lot more money posting 150 videos on 3Speak over the course of 8 months as opposed to focusing exclusively on YouTube.

Most who are already on Web 3.0 not only see it but are living it.

Even if they hope to make it big on youtube, there is no reason not to double post on 3speak in the meantime...and if they spend any time to figure out what hive is, they'll likely make 3speak a priority and start getting involved.

I tried building a community for people to spread the word in youtube comments but I had a hard time finding support and contribution, ended up just being me leaving comments. Also just a warning for anyone reading, if you leave a comment on youtube about hive, don't make it a link, links get shadowbanned to everyone except the person who wrote them.

Yeah it is tough. It is a one person at a time thing.

I left a comment mentioning 3Speak that is all. It is tough since links tend to be dealt with harshly by some of the social media.

We can only keep focusing upon what we can. However, I agree with you, if those into YouTube post to 3Speak as a back up, even a week later, might have an impact.

Many thanks for your insight there. I tried to download the 3Speak app for my laptop from the Github but it's not loading. I see there are several items on the Github download list. Should I perhaps be downloading them all for the app to work?
Many thanks

I downloaded the app a while back but dont recall which one I used. There is a 3speak discord, maybe drop it in there.

I post my videos through 3Speak.tv. I find this the easiest for now.

@taskmaster45, let me share my point of view on 3Speak. I started to post on 3Speak in the first half of 2019. I used to post everyday one video. So, I was among the most active people. I posted there for over 2 years. In the summer, of 2021, or this past summer, I quit. I simply stopped to use 3Speak. I moved completely to DTube. Let me tell you the reason. Although I was among the most active users of the platform, I used to receive very very rarely upvote from 3Speak. Lets, 1-2 upvotes per 2-3 months. I am not complaining about the upvotes in general. I am really very happy with my HIVE upvotes. But, sometimes, you need a kind of respect. Just give a small upvote to the active user, show him that you care about him. It was really strange to me ... and I decided to stop using 3Speak.

p.s. this is just my point of view based on my experience. I am not complaining about anything and I don't expect anything. I just want to make our HIVE ecosystem better. So, it would be nice if 3Speak take into account this and start to care more about their new users.

That is unfortunate and I cannot speak for who is doing curating on there. For me, I upvote videos on 3Speak via Leofinance, so I hit up both with HIVE and LEO.

I am not sure too many use the frontend for more than just posting the videos.

@taskmaster4450, what do you think about the recent start of the big power down? Many Hivers have started to power than, including some of the witnesses, and developers. It's clear they will dump their HIVE via the exchanges. I've seen that you are not powering down. That's why decided to ask you.

What y'all have been doing around here is so important. The world is moving more and more into hyperreality. In the next decade, we are going to be so linked to the internet and technology that I believe most of the world as we experience it now will be rendered useless. Such as government.

I haven't spent much time around here since coming from Steemit, and having poked around, people like you have built a foundation that I think is really strong and has potential to at least serve as an example of the direction we're moving in.

I absolutely love tiktok. It's the young, bright people who will be building the internet of tomorrow. I'll start recommending 3speak to the content creators over there.

We are doing our best to bring out decentralized applications that can help people to be a part of Web 3 as well as owning their account. This is an important step.

3speak is definitely the better choice for someone without a following. It's just a matter of time before the number of users increase dramatically

Yes it will take a long time for that to dwindle down. Right now, it is the epicenter for activity. That is true for all Web 2 platforms.

Many are looking to build their following on the traditional platforms like YouTube and Twitter. This article is going to detail one individual's experience with YouTube.

Just one more thing. If people upload to 3Speak, will they get natural, genuine engagement on the platform, like they do on YouTube?

I regularly watch YouTube videos, and I see comments under almost every video, even under the videos of small YouTubers and ocassional uploaders. And these comments are often funny. Sometimes funnier than the video itself.

When will 3Speak have this?

It is a numbers game. Over time, we will see things converting. In the meantime, we just need to keep commenting ourselves.

He is right about that.

But the people @xplosive is talking about (commenters) aren't earning money from YT at all. They're just there to post their comment. How do we convince THEM to come and do their comments on Hive? We could lie to them and say they'll make money with their comments, but that's not going to win us any friends. The question is, how do we get engagement on 3Speak, like there is on YT?
Censorship is a good point. It seems many people don't even notice it.

It's a matter of, people not wanting to make a new account on a new platform, I think - people are set in their ways and have had YouTube accounts for years and so it's easy, but setting up a new account someplace else is hard (exponentially for people to figure out how keys work/how crypto works/etc. if they really want to explore it). There is a kind of immobility, static, stuckness with getting people to not take the comfortable, familiar route.
So it's like me with Medium - I don't have an account there, I don't want an account there, I don't need another account, so I can't and don't comment on articles there. We probably have some number of views of people who linked over and then said, "oh, nah, I don't want to make another account" when they went to comment.
Until 3Speak is constantly popping up in their feeds and they have friends there or creators who they REALLY like and will sign up for just to follow them, we're probably not going to hit that level of natural engagement. So, we need to be sharing quality 3Speak videos to people who would actually enjoy that content so that more people see it, and also offer a wider variety of content (it's got to be like, 3/4 crypto news at this point, I think, which is unlikely to draw in new people who aren't already into crypto).
YouTube started off small and weird too, and only took off once things started going viral there. Once something on 3Speak goes viral, or that happens several times - then we might get people coming over and joining in.

For now, it is a honeypot over there. A lot of viewer, a lot of commenters, and it is where people go.

We have to change that but it starts with adding numbers on our side. That is the challenge. We just need to keep participating.

What you see is the result of having bear 1 billion people on there.

If 3Speak had that many people, there would be comments under every video. The numbers are so large there that the comments add up.

I have made a helluva lot more comments on Hive than I ever did on YouTube.

Very good points. It is interesting to see how my rewards have increased over the years. I never would have guessed I would be at the place I am now. Imagined, sure, but never quite believed I could get here. People need to start shifting their focus away from the monopolies.

Blockchain technology is speeding up everything. I see people that are in crypto for a bit over a year rocking portfolios that outperform mine. Everything is exponential in here and there's basically no algorithm deciding when one is eligible to earn on a Blockchain based platform.

I think it will be tough to convince some people because the payout system is different. From what I see, you can earn for a lifetime so long as you meet the threshold while in 3speak, its 7 days. So this means that both sides will appeal to different audiences. Of course 3speak definitely has it appeals and I would use it if I created videos. After all, the beginner experience is better than Youtube's grind to play time and subscribers.

I've suggested 3speak to a number of people I've run into that say they are trying to "make it on youtube". I'm like, well, you can go to 3speak and start earning with your first post. By the time people have built a following large enough to get paid anything on youtube, they could have a following here on 3speak that would be paying them 10x what they get in youtube.

Pretty interesting how much people resist.

Oh well, they will be here sooner or later. Web 3, in my view, is the way things will end up. They will only regret not getting in sooner.

Has anyone done a direct comparison? Start accounts on both platforms at the same time, and upload almost identical videos, and see what happens?

I'm not sure, but for a new video blogger, you can't earn anything on Youtube. You need to have a certain amount of followers before they start cutting you in I believe.

That's right, so it would be no contest for the first few months, but how about a longer comparison? Go full time for a year or more on both, and see how they do. Assuming the content is watchable, the YouTube channel will get the views and subscribers needed before long. I guess if the content sucks then the comparison won't work because the 3Speak account would get a few pity payouts, and the YouTube channel would be almost completely unwatched (zero payout).

Yeah, I see. I do agree, top end earners on Youtube are killing it, so there is a cross over somewhere.

Years ago, I was monetized on YouTube, when their requirements were different. Then they did that big purge and took back monetization on any account without enough subscribers (which I didn't have). So basically, all us little fish got the middle finger.
I was earning about $100 per year from my videos, and I did that for I think two years (they wouldn't cut you a check until your earnings had reached the $100 threshold).
I was so pissed off at us getting the shaft, and at big YouTubers making opinion videos about how it was "no big deal" because "who needs that little money anyway" (uh, us poor people, that's who), that I privatized almost all my videos except for a handful of them and stopped posting there. I wasn't going to grind even harder for a goal I might not ever reach (again) in order to enrich YouTube.

Meanwhile, your post here has earned for you (taking into account the 50/50 author/curator split) about what I earned on YouTube in a year.

Yeah f**k YouTube.

I am by no means bragging. I have made a couple of hundred dollars in Hive with 3Speak. It only took about a month of daily activity.
My buddy Jeff has been building his Youtube channel for a couple of years and has a bit of a following but is still below the 1,000 subscriber minimum for monetization.
Oh yes, I have tried to get Jeff to come on over and check Hive out, by offering the Hive Guide and a bunch of delegation even offered him 50 Hive to get started
(back when hive was less than a dollar)
His answer is always the same, "I don't have the time."
No disrespect to Jeff and I have told him this, "I do not have time for YouTube"

Even though I only made a little bit from my 3speak videos it's still more than I would have made on YouTube. And I don't have but a couple hundred followers. It seems like a no brainer that someone with a following like his on YouTube would jump ship and come here to 3Speak.

He would have made more money if he had posted to 3speak.
I got a big upvote on one video that i made with an old software program.
People want to reward you here for your work and curation.
Even if your not earning a lot at first here on Hive, look what you got to before you can even start to earn anything on Youtube.
Let's not forget Youtube or any centralized platform can just cancel you.
So you may reach the requirements and maybe beyond.
Just to have it taken away.
Great post bro:)

YT tried to get me to "partner" in about 2012. I decided against it. My channel became more and more shadowbanned from that point on. I used to go viral, and was becoming a household name. After 2013 or so I was almost unknown again, and then continued to fade away since then. Now I'm losing subscribers each week. Hopeless garbage controlled platform. Shame on them and everyone who associates with them.
