Hive Broadcasting Network: Time For Hive To Up Its Game

This is a topic we covered briefly in the past which is now starting to take place.

We are seeing the potential to start advancing Hive content in a way that is different than what transpired before. There is a great shift underway in the broadcasting world, something that Hive can take advantage of.

To achieve this end, we have to basically up our game. There are a lot of content creators on Hive with a lot of knowledge about different topics. However, their information is simply posted without professional "trimmings". It is time to change that.

So let's dig right in and see what could be taking place.

Source

Follower Circle Jerk

This is a rather negative term that captures what we see in the media world. Before getting to that, it is crucial that we talk about stars.

Many feel we need to bring influencers over to Hive. There were different projects in the past which sought to do this. They ended up failing. Usually, what took place is the influencer took the money offered and then split. Rarely do we see these people using Web 3.0. They will talk about it on Web 2.0, but that is it.

Which brings us to stars.

When YouTube starting to gain traction, did it bring stars from the broadcast world over? The answer is no. Instead, YouTube developed its own stars.

At the same time, when you dig into a particular topic on YouTube, you will see the circle jerk among the influencers. They all appear on each other's shows. This is done to leverage the subscriber base and lift the entire genre.

It is a proven model and does end up helping each channel. This also helps to rank the different videos with the algorithms. Followers will subscribe and add further viewing, uplifting all involved.

The End of Centralized Broadcast Television

We are seeing the end of centralized broadcast television. This is something that was really brought to light by Tucker Carlson. Whatever you feel about the guy or his views, that is secondary. The fact is he was let go (or sidelined) by a major television network and now he basically took his talents to Twitter and is garnering tens of millions of views per episode.

In the past, a guy like that would have either been blackballed by the industry or would have to go work for another major media company.

We know Joe Rogan became the biggest name in podcasting. His shows can be found in many different ways, mostly through Spotify although clips are all over social media.

People are simply finding other ways to get their news or be entertained. This is where Hive has to step in. We know the are multiple generations who are not going to cable television. Instead, the alternative platforms, some which are huge like YouTube, for what they need.

We have the ability to bring this information forth.

For example, what does Jim Cramer do that someone else could not? How about the talking heads on a network like ESPN? Getting 3 or 4 people together to talk about sports on air, how hard is that to replicate? While some of the "insider" stuff might not be possible, people opining simply because they are a tv personality has no moat.

Hive Broadcasting Network

Before getting into this, I will say, it is time for everyone who creates content on Hive to up their game. If you are just throwing garbage up trying to scalp some rewards, that is going to be a failed vision.

It is time for Hive to create its own stars. We are not going to pull those over from Web 2.0. That was tried. However, if we make this appealing enough, they might end up on here at some point. After all, YouTube is now populated with videos of people who were once on broadcast television. Actually, some of the networks even put forth clips of their programming.

So what is Hive Broadcasting Network? This could be considered to be under the umbrella of 3Speak/SpkNetwork. That said, I believe the goal is to kickstart it and then have it spin off onto its own. (This is not the official name, just something I term it to convey the idea)

The basic idea is to create content that has a degree of professionalism done. This will be more than just a quick video show with a phone and a selfie stick. Instead, we are looking at broadcast type shows, centered around different topics. There will be logos, theme songs, and editing.

For example, there might be a 30 minute show broken up into three 10-minute segments. The entire show will be uploaded all the different podcasting platforms, under one umbrella. At the same time, we will see these shows clipped into different sections and posted on traditional social media.

It is my understanding there are about 10 content creators who are involved from the start. It is going to take a few months to unfold, since a lot is required to set things up. However, this will be the foundation going forward.

What does this mean for the future of people on Hive? While we cannot say anything with certainty, my guess is that, if successful, 10 will expand to 20 or 25. That means others will have the opportunity to get involved. To do this, one has to present something worthwhile.

That is why I said it is time for people to up their game.

Web 3.0

What is taking place is the building of Web 3.0 from the ground up. Each new generation of technology requires something new. As shown, the traditional media was usurped by Web 2.0 platforms, especially YouTube. This created their own following, something that differed from what was in place before.

If we want many on Web 2.0 here, we first must build a level of following that is appealing to others. Tokenization is very powerful but, as we found out, cannot be the main selling point.

Therefore, upping the game is crucial as this is the bedrock for what we are seeking to build. A lot of social media is crap. We know that. It is what attracts the masses though. That said, if we are going to get serious eyeballs, that requires the same from content creators.

We have no Tucker Carlsons, Jim Cramers or, hell, even Honey Boo Boos on Hive. That does not mean we do not have talent. At this time, it is scattered and not seen a great deal. This project seeks to alter that.

Web 3.0 has enormous potential. To realize it, we have to construct everything from the ground up.

In short, it is time to build a collective media company. At least this is the mindset people need.

It is beginning. Like most things, it will be a long term process. YouTube didn't become the go to immediately for online information and entertainment. Now it is regularly used by over a billion people.

At some point, it is likely Web 3.0 will encompass the numbers that traditional social media (and finance) do right now. The evolution of technology shows us how things tend to progress.

In addition to YouTube, Twitch is also a successful streaming platform. The Hive blockchain has a huge potential in this. Nowadays mainly 3Speak. Because, at least what I heard about it so far, there is no censorship on it. It can be a successful alternative. Especially for people, who share controversial content.

But I also heard that the videos are getting deleted over time. Maybe this was on DTube, which was also on the Hive blockchain in the past (nowadays DTube is on the Avalon blockchain). Or on DLive, which was also on the Hive blockchain in the past (nowadays DLive is on the Lino blockchain).

I do not know. But there is real potential in alternative streaming and video platforms. Especially seeing the censorship system on YouTube/Twitch.

There's VIMM which is connected to Hive, I've been on it before and it seems good, although I haven't streamed in a while so haven't tested out streaming.

I agree though, with all of the controversy surrounding Twitch atm, alternative streaming services should be at the forefront to attract some big personalities.

VIMM is good for streaming but I dont think it records at all. I dont know if Twitch does that but if so, then VIMM is lagging on that end.

It does, I used to stream on Twitch and get it to record the streams and then I was able to edit and cut it down to upload it afterward.

It's a shame VIMM doesn't have the ability to do that, if it did it could be a good contender.

When it comes to video, be careful with the censorship idea.

Hive is text only, so that is censorship resistant. However, video, audio, and images are hosted on centralized servers. This is what SpkNetwork is looking to solve. For the time being, if there is content that is targeted by the hosting company (like AWS) it can be removed.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but this effort will seriously backfire, imho, unless we initiate suitable reforms to the downvote protocol.

With DVs the way they currently are, a single whale can easily decimate the channel of a rising star he or she dislikes. The DV protocol as it currently stands is a centralizing feature that would severely hobble the true power of the Hive Broadcasting Network.

Or, you could try to do it via Layer 2.

Or, implement a different mechanism for rewarding content, such as value-for-value or ad revenue or a combination of the three.

There are those options too. Leo is certainly implementing certain models that can change the scope of things.

Communities are free to try things as they see fit.

That is true at the base layer. However, why is that thought of as the only game in town.

This is where people are not moving on in scope. Layer 2 can create as much wealth, if not more, than the base layer.

Yet few realize this since none have really broken through.

Yes! With web3 introduction things are really different; we are promoting Hive in different manner. The Vibe is high and we need to continue the good work as you rightly said. For instance we have different ways writing contents and now sharing content is becoming more interesting, I love the #LeoThreads hub growing gradually too.

I think it's more impactful when stars are built within Hive than bringing in influencers. The media world is moving more towards individual creators that are building an audience from the topics they discuss. Here on the blockchain, we have tokenization. Add professionalism and it could turn out to be something bigger than current web2 media.
